Demon Slayer Episode 11

Demon Slayer Episode 11

Tsuzumi Mansion

The Tsuzumi mansion is the location where Tanjirou will find the next demon he’s meant to slay. However, he comes across a new companion while he’s making his way there. At the end of the previous episode Tanjirou came across a boy begging for a girl to marry him in the street, and this is his new companion.

The boy’s name is Zenitsu Agatsuma, and he’s a fellow member of the demon slayer corp. You may also remember seeing him at the end (and perhaps the beginning) of the Final Selection test. You’ll also recognize him as the electric boy from the OP.

But enough about Zenitsu for now, because the next section will be all about him anyway. Instead let’s talk about the setup to the next demon fight. Almost immediately after finding the mansion where the demon resides, Tanjirou and Zenitsu find two, young children.

Originally I figured these children might turn out to be demons, but that doesn’t actually seem to be the case (yet). Instead, the demon that lives in the mansion kidnapped their older brother, and the two kids followed it to the current location.

Tanjirou instructs the children to remain outside while he and Zenitsu defeat the demon and save their brother. And just to be safe, he leaves the box containing Nezuko outside with them so that she can protect them if the need arises (though he doesn’t tell them that).

But, the children get scared after hearing scratching sounds coming from within the box, and they run into the mansion with Tanjirou and Zenitsu. While I think the children will make it out of the mansion alive, I don’t believe their brother will be so lucky. He may even turn out to be the demon.

Zenitsu Agatsuma

From what we’ve seen of him so far, I can safely say that Zenitsu does nothing but detract from this series. I love characters who use electric-type attacks, but we haven’t even seen him do that yet other than in the OP. Also I can’t be sure the attacks we see are even elemental. The visual effects may just be effects to illustrate the power and nature of the attacks.

So why do I hate Zenitsu so much? Because he’s annoying. He whines. He complains. He’s always afraid. He chases after every girl he sees. He’s basically just a compilation of the worst traits from the Straw Hats from One Piece. At least they have redeeming qualities, but as of this point I can’t say the same about Zenitsu.

So why is someone like him a demon slayer in the first place?

He actually entered into the Final Selection with hopes of dying. He racked up a lot of debt and then was tricked into even more debt by someone who offered to pay off his original debt. But instead of dying, he somehow survived Final Selection due to his luck, not his skill.

That said, he does have one special trait. Just as Tanjirou has an extreme sense of smell, Zenitsu has an extreme sense of hearing. But even if he does turn out to be powerful in the end, I don’t think that will compensate for his annoying character.

As a final note on Zenitsu, while demon slayers are supposed to have companion crows, he has a sparrow instead. His sparrow doesn’t speak like the crows do though. And it’s revealed that while Tanjirou can understand it, Zenitsu can’t. So I don’t know how he figures out where to go next.

Taiko Demon

The Taiko demon is the master of the mansion Tanjirou and Zenitsu find themselves in. As much as I liked the Arrow and Temari demons’ abilities, I think the Taiko demon has a much more interesting one.

This demon has three taiko drums implanted into its chest and stomach. By tapping these drums, it’s able to rearrange and rotate any and all of the rooms within the mansion. It’s unclear whether this mansion in particular is linked to its blood art, or if this ability would work in any building.

Either way, this ability seems like it could make for a fairly interesting battle. Rather than our heroes simply fighting against the demon and his attacks, they’ll also be forced to fight against the environment itself.

At one point the Taiko demon also mentions that its prey escaped. It was particularly distraught because that person had “rare blood.” As far as we know for now, this could just be referring to blood type, but what if it means something more? What if in this world there are people with rare blood that are somehow different?

What if people with rare blood are the ones who gain blood arts upon being turned into demons? Sure, that would just shift the question away from, “what determines who gets a blood art” to “what determines who has rare blood,” but at least it would be a step in the right direction.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to the fight against the Taiko demon regardless of whether or not we learn anything new about demons from it.

Inosuke Hashibira

Alright, so Inosuke Hashibira’s name hasn’t been revealed in the anime yet, but now you know it. I needed to call him something for this review, and I figured that his actual name doesn’t really spoil anything so that’s what I’ll be referring to him as.

So who exactly is Inosuke? We know he’s a demon slayer, but not much more than that. The reasons we know he’s a demon slayer are because he wields Nichirin swords, and because he’s trying to kill the Taiko demon. But we don’t know if he’s a new demon slayer, or one who has been around.

You may recall from one of my earlier episode reviews that I mentioned there was one person to pass Final Selection who wasn’t shown to us previously. Inosuke may very well be that person, though it’s unclear why we never saw him before or after the exam.

He’s also the first demon slayer we’ve seen to have two Nichirin swords. And, what’s more, his swords are a bit more unique than any we’ve seen thus far. They don’t appear to have actual hilts, and their blades are notched. Did Inosuke make these himself?

We’re also already told Inosuke’s motives for wanting to be a demon slayer. He wants to acquire fame through killing powerful demons. And I have to say that while Zenitsu lowered my rating of this series, Inosuke raised it back up. I have high hopes for his character.

Oh, he also wears a boars head for some reason.
