My Hero Academia Episode 70

My Hero Academia Episode 70

GO!!

Last week we got an info dump, and this week we got a setup, so next week there should be some real action. And what I’m most interested in is that the action is going to focus on Suneater of the Big Three. I’m glad we’re getting to see something from someone who isn’t a member of Class 1-A.

Also Suneater just has a really interesting quirk because it’s so versatile. I’ll talk more about this later on.

But one important thing I want to mention here at the start is that the pro heroes don’t believe Shie Hassaikai and the League of Villains are working together. Last week I discussed a bit why it doesn’t really make sense for the two organizations to pair up, as well as their explanations for doing so.

So what do the pro heroes mean? And what could be going on behind the scenes?

Gran Torino was the hero in charge of watching the League of Villains. Although he reported that they began moving, this didn’t seem to be connected to Shie Hassaikai, and so the police and other heroes aren’t too worried. However, we know that the two groups did strike a deal of some sort.

We also know that Shie Hassaikai has been expecting the heroes and police to show up. So my prediction is that while the groups aren’t really working together, they’re using one another. In this case, Shie Hassaikai is acting as the diversion while the League commits a crime with limited heroes around to stop them.

Could they be attempting to break All-for-One out of prison? Are they going to attack All Might? I’m not sure, but I don’t think they’ll be coming to Shie Hassaikai’s rescue.

Rock Lock

In this episode we get to see glimpses of some pro hero quirks which we previously hadn’t seen before. One of them we see later in the episode is the quirk of the Dragoon Hero: Ryukyu. And I have to say, her dragon form looks terrible. I’m sorry, but the character designer is going to have to take the “L” on that one.

However, the pro hero I’m much more interested in is Rock Lock. I don’t believe we ever got the name of his quirk, but it’s probably something simple like “Lock.”

He may be able to do a lot of different things with his quirk, but from what we’ve seen so far it can simply lock objects he touches in space. These objects can then be unlocked and will carry on with the momentum from before they were locked.

If you’ve seen JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 5: Golden Wind, then Rock Lock’s quirk is basically just like Sale’s Kraft Work.

And although this is a seemingly simple quirk, that’s actually what I like about it. I mentioned before that some of the quirks in My Hero Academia are a bit too strange. Rock Lock’s isn’t. It’s easy to understand, doesn’t make him look stupid, and is actually quite versatile.

So far we’ve seen him create stepping stones to move from rooftop to rooftop, but he could use his quirk for a wide variety of other things. It’s not the best for attacking head on, but he could theoretically set up traps with it. He can also use it to defend himself by creating shields of objects hover in mid-air.

I’m really hoping Rock Lock isn’t tossed aside after this arc, or worse yet, gets killed during it.

Raid on Shie Hassaikai

During the start of the raid on Shie Hassaikai is when we get to see some of the other quirks, such as the aforementioned Ryukyu’s. We also see little bits of other quirks, but for heroes who we don’t know the names of. There’s also one Shie Hassaikai member whose quirk we see, and it’s basically just another muscle enhancement quirk.

With that said, we learn that there’s a special group of Shie Hassaikai known as the Eight Bullets. The member with the muscle enhancement quirk appears to be a member of this group, so we can assume he’s not a simple grunt. These are likely the strongest members aside from Kai Chisaki himself.

However, as I mentioned at the beginning of this review, I want to discuss Suneater for a bit, and this is the perfect time to do it. Before the raid, Fat Gum gives him some swordfish to eat. This is because whatever Suneater eats can then be manifested in his body and used in combat.

So based on this, we’re likely going to see him turn one of his arms into the sword of a swordfish to go up against one of the Eight Bullets. And here’s the big takeaway from this: Suneater’s quirk is the perfect pairing for Fat Gum’s.

I didn’t think of it before, but Fat Gum always has food with him. He’s constantly eating. And because of this, he can always give Suneater something which will be advantageous in their fights. In this sense, Fat Gum is the support hero while Suneater is the primary fighter.

Also I just like how Fat Gum is taking his role as mentor seriously and equipping Suneater with what he needs to succeed. He’s thinking about the battles ahead and preparing Suneater.

Conclusion

I know this was another episode without much action, and so many people probably aren’t as interested in it. But what did you think of My Hero Academia season 4 episode 7? Do you like Ryukyu’s quirk? What about Rock Lock’s? And, do you think Fat Gum sought out Suneater specifically because of his quirk? Let me know in the comments.
