The Village Hidden in the Leaves

Last week Boruto and Sasuke were sent back in time by a mechanized turtle named Karasuki. This happened when Urashiki attempted to use Karasuki’s time traveling ability to go back to a point at which he could steal the nine-tails chakra from a weak Naruto.

However, neither Urashiki nor Boruto and Sasuke made it to the original time Urashiki had planned to go to. Instead, they ended up in the Leaf Village right after Lady Tsunade took over as the Fifth Hokage. From this we can assume Urashiki planned to go back to when Naruto was much younger.

But would that have been a good idea? Sure, Naruto would have been less of a threat, and Jiraiya and Tsunade may not have been around to help, but there was someone else. Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage, was a pretty strong guy — being one of a handful to have naturally mastered all five basic elemental chakra natures.

Hiruzen was by no means in his prime when Naruto was a child, but we also have to consider the facts surrounding his death. He wasn’t defeated by Orochimaru, he took his own life in order to stop his former student. And he didn’t want to fight Orochimaru to begin with, so he wasn’t really going all out.

If Urashiki attacked the Leaf Village at that time, I have no doubt Hiruzen would have been able fight him off, at least temporarily. And after that, Jiraiya, and potentially Tsunade, would have had time to return to the village. So like I mentioned last week, this probably wouldn’t have been a good time to attack.

Could Urashiki Win?

But what about the time period Boruto and Sasuke were sent to? How hard would it really be for Urashiki to win at this point in time? After all, Karasuki predicted that Urashiki will arrive in the Leaf Village within the next few days.

For starters, we have both Boruto and Sasuke around, so that makes it a little unfair. Sasuke alone could definitely defeat Urashiki based on what we know he can do, but apparently the writers of Boruto have forgotten that. So let’s pretend those two aren’t around.

Urashiki would have to fight against Naruto (maybe), Jiraiya, Tsunade, and the other jonin of the village such as Kakashi, Might Guy, etc. I think the combo of Jiraiya and Tsunade alone could defeat Urashiki assuming they go all out. Even just Jiraiya might be able to win if he uses Ma & Pa, Gamabunta, and his toad sage mode.

But there is another threat to Urashiki who would also have been around during the age of Hiruzen: Might Guy. I think a lot of people forget that Might Guy is one of the strongest shinobi to ever live.

Remember the end of Shippūden when Madara was revived and he single-handedly defeated all five Kage with relative ease and then went on to defeat the Naruto-Sasuke tag team? Guess who was the only person who had a chance of defeating him — Might Guy.

In a one-on-one fight against Urashiki, Might Guy would win. If it was a long battle, Urashiki would come out on top, but the thing is, I think he would underestimate Might Guy too much. He would lose before he even knew that he should escape through one of his portals.

The Sasuke Recovery Mission

That’s enough about what-if battles. Let’s discuss some of the current events in the Leaf Village for this time period. As we were told, Tsunade just recently became the fifth hokage at this point, which means it’s not long after the death of Hiruzen.

And if you read the title of this section, then you’ll know that the Sasuke recovery mission is about to begin. Tsunade mentions to Boruto and Sasuke that a genin has abandoned the village, and so they’re currently on high alert. That genin was Sasuke, who left the village to train under Orochimaru.

So I think might be safe to say that Boruto won’t end up meeting Sasuke as a child. I’ve heard that this arc is going to last nine episodes, so it’s still possible, but considering the time period, it seems unlikely. From this point I don’t believe Sasuke returns to the Leaf Village until the Fourth Shinobi War when he revives the previous Hokage.

That means he’s gone for around four to five years.

But with that said, it seems fairly obvious that Boruto is going to learn about Sasuke’s dark past, or at least some of it, within this arc. He’ll definitely learn that Sasuke was considered a missing-nin, but I’m not sure how much he’ll find out.

Will he learn that Sasuke went on to kill his own brother and become an international terrorist under the Akatsuki? Probably not since that’s not related to the arc at hand.

Sakura, Naruto, and Jiraiya

And just because I feel like I have to do this, let’s go over the characters who Boruto met during this first episode back in time.

The first one he sees, but last one he actually meets in the episode, is Sakura. While Boruto initially wants to talk to Sakura because he believes she’ll know Naruto’s location, Sasuke wants nothing to do with her because he’s afraid of altering the future.

When Boruto finally does get a chance to meet Sakura, he notices how similar she is to her daughter, Sarada.

Naruto and Jiraiya are the more important characters Boruto meets, not because Sakura is useless (which she is at this point), but because he wanted to know more about them. Unfortunately, Boruto only gets to see Jiraiya as the “pervy sage,” and not him fighting at full power.

And considering where this point is in the series, I’m not sure Boruto will actually get to see Jiraiya in action. Aside from his battle with Tsunade against Orochimaru (which already happened), the next time Jiraiya actually fights is probably against Pain.

Luckily, there was some fairly decent content involving Boruto learning about how Naruto lived as a child. Boruto already knew that Naruto didn’t have any family growing up, but he now sees first-hand how Naruto lived and how much family means to him.

Conclusion
