That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 Episode 25

Rimuru’s Busy Life

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is back with a second season, and for some reason, I decided to review it on a weekly basis once again. If you’re familiar with my review(s) of the first season, you’ll know that I’m not exactly the biggest fan of this series. I gave the first season a 5/10, after all.

And I have to say, after watching episode 25, the second season seems like it’s going to be more of the same. It still has generic art, the animation is pretty standard, and the plot isn’t anything special either. Not that I was expecting any of those things to change, but they’re worth noting.

I actually think the new OP for the series does a great job at showcasing what it is: Absolutely generic in every way. You could slap this OP at the start of just about any fantasy anime and it would fit. It includes every trope in the book in terms of OP shots.

But, I do have one good* thing to say about the OP. It actually reminded me more about the first season than the minute-and-a-half-long slideshow of a recap we got. That recap didn’t remind me of anything I didn’t already know. The OP at least reminded me of the existence of characters I had forgotten.

Anyway, in this episode, we saw Rimuru leave the school he was teaching at behind. It’s time for him to go back to the forest and lead the country he founded. And the reason he chose to return now is that he and the country of Eurazania to the south are entering into diplomatic relations. Eurazania is the country ruled by the Demon Lord Carrion.

Catching Up

If you’re reading this review, I’m going to assume that you’re a fan of TenSura. And if you’re a fan of TenSura I’m going to assume you watched the special episodes (and episode 24.9, which I assume is a recap) that released between the first season and this season. I did not watch those and I don’t plan to watch them.

I’m also assuming that if you watched those episodes you have a better idea of where the first season left off than I did when I started episode 25. For everyone like myself, this episode was a pretty good refresher, despite the fact that most of the episode was extremely boring.

We were reminded of Rimuru’s time teaching at the magic academy. We were reintroduced to the “champions.” And the concept of demon lord domains was re-established. With everything this episode went over, I’m not entirely sure why a dedicated recap episode is necessary.

To be clear, there are still a lot of things I don’t remember about the first season. But I feel like this episode touched on everything that’s really important. Whatever was left out either doesn’t matter or will be brought up again at a later point when it’s relevant.

Oh, and speaking of recapping the previous events of the series, remember when the first season concluded with a recap episode? What was the point of that if they were just going to make another recap episode before Season 2 and have the first episode of Season 2 effectively be a recap as well?

Veldora’s recap was pretty entertaining, but having three recap episodes effectively back to back doesn’t seem like the greatest idea. I wonder if this season is going to end with a recap as well. Actually, this season is split into two separate cours. So maybe both cours will conclude with recap episodes.

Eurazania’s Delegation

The only truly new content of the episode came towards the end when the delegation from Eurazania arrived in Rimuru’s forest. This delegation included three of Carrion’s top subordinates, known as the Three Beastketeers. I know — that’s a really bad name for their little group.

Despite their group title, I do think that these three characters are somewhat interesting. Eurazania is a country of beastmen, and each of the Beastketeers is a different beastman species.

The leader of the Beastketeers is Albis, the Golden Serpent. From her character design, you probably wouldn’t guess that she’s a serpent beastman. However, once that was revealed, I did notice that she has a similar color palette to Gorgon from Fate.

Second in command is Suphia, the White Tiger Claw. I thought that maybe she was supposed to be a white lion, but a white tiger makes sense too. At the very least, the fact that she’s a big cat beastman of some sort was pretty obvious by her design, demeanor, and fighting style.

The final member of the Beastketeers is where some theorizing comes into play. Grucius is literally just called “Runt.” At first, I was thinking that maybe this implies Grucius isn’t a member of the Three Beastketeers and is instead just a random grunt. But that wouldn’t make much sense. Why specify that there’s three of them if there are actually more?

So I’ll assume Grucius is a wolf beastman. The term runt can be used for any animal, but it’s most commonly used when referring to canines. And his grey hair is sort of wolf-like, I guess.

I’m looking forward to learning more about the various types of beastmen. The one thing I do enjoy about this series is looking at the various countries and cultures that make it up.

  1. thanks for reviewing the second season, I have not seen anyone else in my tl and groups talk about it, not even to say bad things

    1. I haven’t seen too many others talking about it either. I figured it would be popular based on how well received the first season was.
