That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 Episode 31

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 Episode 31

Disintegration

I want to say That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 episode 31 was the best episode of the season so far. But I’m actually not sure that’s the case because I was somewhat annoyed by the recap of the previous episode. Either way, it was a good episode and I’m looking forward to where the series goes from here.

Last week, I opined that Rimuru probably could have wiped the floor with Hinata if she hadn’t sealed his skills and erected a monster-weakening barrier. I believe that to be the case, but Rimuru himself states that it still may have been a close fight because of Hinata’s Disintegrate spell.

So naturally, you’d probably trust Rimuru’s word over mine in this situation. However, we also have to consider what it would have meant for either party to win this fight. The goal someone has in a fight is important in determining how easy it would be for them to win.

To use Naruto as an example, in the first fight between Naruto and Sasuke at the Valley of the End, Naruto wins because his win condition was simply scratching Sasuke’s headband while Sasuke’s was killing Naruto. The same concept applies to the fight between Rimuru and Hinata.

In this fight, Hinata’s win condition of killing Rimuru is arguably easier than Rimuru’s win condition of defeating Hinata without killing her. The fact that Rimuru doesn’t want to kill Hinata is why their fight at full strength may have been close.

If they were both fighting to the death and Rimuru wasn’t affected by the barriers, I think Rimuru would win fairly convincingly. However, you could also argue that the barriers are part of Hinata’s power, so voiding them would inherently give Rimuru an unfair advantage.

In any event, I think Rimuru would have been able to dodge Disintegration if he wasn’t weakened.

Destruction

Did you ever question how Rimuru was able to escape from Hinata in the end? Shouldn’t she have been able to sense his immense magical strength still? Shizu’s mask was supposedly what was hiding his strength from seeping out. He doesn’t have it anymore, so she should have been able to sense him.

But, I guess if we’re skipping over that apparent hole, we can also skip over the fact that Rimuru could just hop right through the barrier surrounding Tempest. That barrier significantly injured Souei, and yet Rimuru seemed to be completely unaffected.

I was expecting Rimuru to engulf the entire barrier as he did with Veldora and then break it down inside of himself. He’s going to have to take down the barrier at some point. Also, is the barrier just going to be kept up for the entire week until the Falmuth military returns? I guess they don’t want the monsters to flee.

Rimuru and the barrier aside, I liked the scene with Benimaru confronting Myulan, Grucius, and Youm. It’s unfortunate that we haven’t had the chance to see Benimaru or Rimuru use their full power yet this season. But at the same time, Just knowing that Benimaru beat up Youm and Grucius without much effort is pretty nice.

Normally, I wouldn’t like a series to have overpowered characters who easily win every fight. But at the same time, that’s kind of what I want from TenSura simply because the main characters try to avoid fighting when possible.

It would be boring if they always got into big fights and won. But the fact that they tend to avoid fights and play down their own strength makes me want to see it even more. It would have been pretty awesome to see Benimaru show up and absolutely destroy all three of the otherworlders single-handedly in the previous episode.

Despair

When Rimuru learned that some of his citizens had been killed by the invasion, I actually thought he might kill Myulan and absorb her into his body. He has a bunch of different monster races in there, but he doesn’t yet have a majin. That also likely would have put him one step closer to becoming a true demon lord.

But at the same time, I liked how his inner A.I. voice stopped him from going out of control. It reminded me of what happens to Ainz whenever his emotions begin to take control in Overlord. Obviously, that’s supposed to be more for comedic effect in Overlord because it’s forced on Ainz, but it’s a similar concept.

Killing Myulan would have been pretty good in my opinion. It would make Rimuru’s character more morally grey, which I think would make him more interesting. It would also put him at odds with both Youm and Grucius, which could make for some nice internal conflict for both of those characters.

I don’t think either of them would attempt to fight Rimuru, but they wouldn’t be pleased with his decision. I’m not sure what Grucius would do considering he needs to behave as an emissary of Carrion. But Youm probably would have left Tempest. I doubt he would become Rimuru’s enemy, but he may have begun spreading the truth about Rimuru being the one to defeat the Orc Lord.

That alone would have put Rimuru into a tricky spot considering he’s been trying to play down his own strength. Or, perhaps that’s exactly what Rimuru needs to do now that other countries are attacking Tempest.

Conclusion

What do you think of TenSura Season 2 episode 31? Could Rimuru have actually defeated Hinata if the barrier was down? Do you want to see the strong characters fight at 100% of their power? And should Rimuru have killed Myulan for her role in the attack? Let me know in the comments.
