That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 Episode 33

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 Episode 33

Putting Everything on the Line

The first half of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 Episode 33 was basically just a recap. I was actually worried that the entire episode was going to be a recap when we hit the halfway point and had no meaningful new content. But luckily, that wasn’t the case.

Still, it’s not as if the second half of the episode mattered all that much either. It was basically just Rimuru telling his various forces where they were going to attack in the next episode. I don’t have too much to say about how Rimuru divided up his forces other than that I would have liked to see Benimaru vs. the Otherworlders.

I do like how Benimaru was sent on his own, though. He’s clearly the strongest person within Tempest aside from Rimuru. So that much makes sense.

Something that surprised me a bit was that nobody seemed surprised about Rimuru being a human from another world in his previous life. It makes sense that none of them would be influenced by this information. But I expected at least someone to have expressed shock at that reveal.

You’d think the humans like Youm might be surprised by it considering the Otherworlders found in their home nation are all humans. To me, it would have made sense for them to believe that all Otherworlders would reincarnate as humans.

And even if Youm and the humans weren’t surprised by this, how did Gabiru or Gobta not exclaim something? Both of them are mostly included for comedic effect.

Oh, and I’ve never really thought about it before, but I guess there are probably more Otherworlders who reincarnated as monsters that we just don’t know about.

What is Clayman After?

I’m sure this is just me not understanding something or Crunchyroll’s subtitles being bad (again), but didn’t Rimuru say that Clayman isn’t a real Demon Lord in this episode? To be fair, he said that perhaps Clayman is attempting to become a True Demon Lord. But I don’t know what the difference is.

Is a True Demon Lord different from a regular Demon Lord? I thought all Demon Lords had to collect 10,000 human souls to receive that title. Do you need 10,000 more to become a True Demon Lord? I have no idea.

Anyway, I don’t think this whole “True” Demon Lord thing is real. Previously, Clayman was trying to make the Orc Lord into a Demon Lord. So why would he do that if he wasn’t even a Demon Lord himself? That doesn’t make sense. Instead, I think Clayman is trying to collect these souls to make another Demon Lord like he was back then.

But why would he want to make a new Demon Lord?

I’m not really sure what Clayman’s end goal is here. Maybe he has a second wish that he wants to be fulfilled, but every Demon Lord only gets one. In that case, he may be thinking that he can make a new Demon Lord and then take their wish for himself or something.

Regardless, I thought it was pretty entertaining that Rimuru said he wasn’t worried about whatever Clayman’s up to considering in the comments of my review of episode 29, K1R4 said that I was underestimating Clayman. Look, if even Rimuru is saying that he doesn’t need to worry about Clayman, I think it’s safe for me to say the same thing.

I get that Clayman might actually be a threat. But as of now, we haven’t exactly seen anything from him that would indicate this.

That Time I Committed Genocide as a Slime

It’s still pretty funny to me how nonchalant Rimuru is about the fact that he’s about to kill at least 10,000 people in the blink of an eye. That’s true Demon Lord energy. I’m pretty sure these 10,000 people aren’t even the same ones that initially attacked Tempest. This is a new group of soldiers who are about to be wiped out.

Last week, I theorized that Rimuru might “kill” all of the soldiers without actually killing them as he did with Myulan. However, that no longer seems to be a possibility. Not only does it seem like Rimuru fully intends to kill them, but it’s their souls he needs, not simply for them to die.

Based on how Milim’s dragon went out of control when it was revived without a soul, I don’t think these soldiers would truly be alive even if Rimuru gave them replacement hearts after taking their souls.

Also, I guess we still don’t really know what being a Demon Lord entails aside from being able to revive people (once?). Since it’s an official title, I suppose that it comes with general stat boosts. But we haven’t actually been told anything as far as I know. We just know that the Demon Lords are strong because they had to be in order to become Demon Lords.

You can’t just collect 10,000 human souls without being somewhat strong beforehand, right? Oh, and we haven’t gotten a reason for why the souls have to be human. It’s now been established that monsters have actual souls as well. So you’d think that those would work as well, right?

Maybe collecting the souls of 10,000 monsters is how you receive a different title, such as that of “Hero.” Though, I do think it was mentioned way back in Season 1 that there can only be one Hero at a time, which isn’t the case for Demon Lords.

Conclusion

What do you think of TenSura Season 2 Episode 33? Do you think this was a good episode? Or do you agree with my feeling that it was slow and mostly a waste of time? Also, why do you think Clayman is looking to acquire 10,000 more human souls? Let me know in the comments.

    1. It’s interesting that you thought that. I felt that way about the majority of this series, but I think it’s finally getting good.
