That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 episode 34 was actually better than I expected. Normally that wouldn’t be too amazing of a feat when talking about TenSura because my expectations are often pretty low. But I did have high expectations going into this week’s episode.

We knew from the end of the previous episode that this one was going to have quite a bit of action. First, there was a short, yet still good, “fight” featuring Benimaru. Then, we got a brief scene of Gabiru not being a clown for once. And third, Souei’s group killed everyone before they knew they were under attack.

But obviously, the highlight of the episode was the fourth battlefield, which featured both Hakurou and Geld facing off against the Otherworlders. I’ll be going more in-depth with that in the next section.

Before getting to the Otherworlders, I want to take a moment to discuss the title of the episode and the scene or Rimuru’s attack on the army at the end. The title was named after the attack Rimuru used: Megiddo. But what is that?

Some of you may be familiar with Megiddo, but others may be more familiar with its Latin name, Armageddon. Both words refer to the alleged location of the final battle during the end of the world in the Bible. And this is also why they can be used to refer to the end of the world itself.

Basically, Rimuru’s attack is named after the end of the world because it can kill tens of thousands of people in an instant. I would have preferred that it looked cooler when he used it, but it gets the job done and certainly lives up to its name considering it’s being used to create a Demon Lord.

Death to the Otherworlders

Considering the previous content of this series, I really wasn’t expecting how brutal the deaths of the Otherworlders were going to be. These weren’t the first on-screen deaths of the series. But I believe they were the first on-screen deaths of named characters.

Well, aside from Shizu’s death. But that was under different circumstances so I wouldn’t exactly say it’s comparable.

I think every other death in the series that was on-screen was the death of an enemy monster we had no attachment to. Obviously, the monsters allied with Rimuru are ones we’re attached to, but their deaths were off-screen. And while you might not have been attached to these Otherworlders, they were still prevalent enough characters.

The first Otherworlder to die is probably the one to die in the worst way. He was beheaded by Hakurou, but because of the skill he was using, he was still alive for a while afterward and had time to recognize that he was going to die.

In a close second comes the female Otherworlder, who was strangled to death by the third Otherworlder in order to absorb her power or something. That’s also a terrible way to die, but at least she wasn’t conscious after already being effectively dead.

The final Otherworlder got the best ending. He was simply killed in a second without time to realize what was going on.

But, these deaths made me wonder what happens to them after they die. They’ve all already died once in their original world and got reincarnated in this fantasy world. So do they get to reincarnate again? Do we even know how reincarnation into other worlds works in this series? It’s possible that their souls were summoned initially.

Reincarnation and Possession

Speaking of reincarnation in TenSura, we were introduced to another type of reincarnation in this episode. Sir Razen reveals that he has reincarnation and possession abilities that allow him to jump from his current body into the body of someone who has recently died.

By using these techniques, it’s implied that Sir Razen has been alive for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. But why is that important? Well, you may be thinking that it’s important because it sets up Sir Razen as perhaps the next main antagonist of the series.

However, I don’t think that’s the case. Yes, Sir Razen is a Majin who’s been able to cheat death for a long time. But as we’ve seen before, Majin aren’t really all that much of an issue for Rimuru. First, there was the Majin that created the Orc Lord, then there was Myulan, and now there’s Sir Razen.

So why is Sir Razen important? My guess is that his importance comes from the fact that he’s about to be food for Rimuru. As far as I can tell, Rimuru isn’t merely killing these 10,000 soldiers. He’s absorbing their souls into his body and refers to them as his food.

And what do we know about things that are absorbed into Rimuru’s body? That’s right! Their skills and abilities become his own. So if Sir Razen has the abilities of reincarnation and body possession, and he gets absorbed by Rimuru, it stands to reason that Rimuru will gain those abilities.

Reincarnation is obviously a nice skill to have, assuming it works as one would expect. But the possession skill is potentially more interesting. Could we see Rimuru possessing the body of others temporarily to bring out their full strength in battle?

Conclusion
