Boruto Episode 195

Touring the Leaf Village

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Episode 195 was all about Naruto taking Kawaki on a tour of the leaf village as they went to get a new vase for Himawari. And although Kawaki is still pretty anti-social, it does seem like he’s learning what being a functioning member of society is all about.

The more we get to see of Kawaki living with the Uzumaki family, the less I believe that Kawaki is the one who actually chooses to destroy the Leaf Village later on. There’s just no reason for Kawaki to do something like that on his own.

Last week, I mentioned that it’s possible that Kawaki technically isn’t even the one who attacks the Leaf Village. If Kawaki is Jigen’s vessel, then it could be Jigen controlling his body and attacking. But, I think there’s probably a more likely explanation.

Considering that we saw Koji enter the Leaf Village at the end of the episode (I’ll get to that later), I think that Kawaki’s perception of Konoha being somewhere where he can’t be reached by Jigen is going to be shattered. If Kawaki no longer feels safe, he might become unpredictable.

The only problem with that theory is that, as we’ve seen, Kawaki is generally more likely to flee than fight. So, there must be some additional circumstance that causes him to stay and fight within the village.

I think I mentioned this in one of the earlier episode reviews, but Kawaki’s father may be what causes him to do this. Despite how Kawaki’s father treated him, he still cared for his father. If Jigen threatens to harm his father, Kawaki might do what he says — which may involve capturing Boruto, who also has Karma.

A Vase

Well, in last week’s review I said that I was pretty sure that Kawaki would end up fixing Himawari’s original vase that he broke. And, based on the final scene of the episode that Kawaki was a part of, that seems to be exactly what’s going to happen.

After seeing Himawari’s vase in the ED, I was fairly confident this was going to be the case. Of course, its appearance in the ED could simply have signified that being the first sign of Kawaki’s character development. It’s after he breaks the vase that he begins to calm down a bit.

However, if we look at the other scenes depicted within the ED, it’s clear that they take place after the vase broke. We see Kawaki living a relatively normal life with Boruto, Sarada, and Mitsuki — something that’s only really started with this week’s episode.

And, there was another sign within this episode that the restored Vase in the ED would come to pass. In the ED, we’re shown a scene of everyone eating taiyaki together, with Kawaki’s being chocolate and Sarada’s being custard, just like in this episode.

So, since the taiyaki part came to pass — albeit not in the same way it was depicted in the ED — it makes sense that other parts of the ED would too. However, I’m guessing that the restored vase will have visible cracks in it, unlike the one shown in the ED.

Also, this leaves us with the question of what’s going to happen with the new vase that Kawaki picked out. Surely it isn’t just going to be scrapped. I think we’ll see it come up again in a later episode. Maybe once Kawaki eventually breaks away from

Koji Infiltrates Konoha

At this point, I think we all understand that Koji is connected to Jiraiya somehow. We know that he has a connection with the Leaf Village, he can summon Toads, and he can even use the Rasengan. Also, he sort of looks like Jiraiya.

This episode took it a bit further. I don’t see Koji being Jiraiya’s child in any way — he’s too old. But, I suppose it’s possible that Koji is Jiraiya’s brother or something. Again, you would expect Jiraiya to have mentioned him, but maybe he was thought to have died as a child or something.

If that were the case, it could potentially explain why Koji’s chakra is already registered with the Leaf Village. However, I’m going to say that Koji is a homunculus created with Jiraiya’s cells. As I’ve brought up in a previous review, one of Kara’s known hideouts was extremely close to where Jiraiya’s body was lost, so it checks out.

But, this theory isn’t without its downfalls. And if it does turn out to be true, I’m going to need some significant explaining to be done to resolve potential plot holes associated with it.

If Koji is a clone of Jiraiya and has his same chakra signature, won’t the barrier surrounding the Leaf Village pick up on that? Won’t someone realize that Jiraiya’s chakra suddenly appeared within the village? It must be able to identify an individual’s chakra, otherwise, what’s the point of registering?

And further, if this also means that the reason Koji can summon toads is that he has the same chakra as Naruto, wouldn’t one of the toads tipped off Naruto? The only two toad sages we know to ever have existed were Jiraiya and Naruto. You’d think that someone like Gamakichi would notice and tell Naruto if Jiraiya’s chakra suddenly connected to Mt. Myōboku again.

I think that if Koji were to run into Naruto or Tsunade within the village, that would also blow his cover. They should both be very familiar with Jiraiya’s chakra.
