Boruto Episode 199

Boruto Episode 199

Naruto Gets Semi-Serious

For the past few weeks, especially last week, I’ve been complaining about how Naruto was nerfed for his fight against Delta. As some of you may have guessed, and as Naruto explained in Episode 199, he was simply holding back against Delta because he wanted to capture her alive.

It’s a good explanation, but I don’t think it really fits. Naruto can go easy on Delta without it looking like they’re evenly matched. As I pointed out in the review of Episode 198, he didn’t even use Shadow Clones. That would have been an easy way to defeat Delta.

Could Delta have absorbed the Shadow Clones with her right eye? I guess so since they’re made of chakra. But she wouldn’t have known that the first time Naruto used them. Naruto could have baited her into firing her eye lasers at a clone and taken her by surprise.

There are a lot of different ways Naruto could have defeated Delta. As I’ve said many times over the past few weeks, there’s no realistic way for him to lose that fight. He’s just so monstrously overpowered, even compared to a Kara member like Delta.

But with that said, I did like it when Naruto decided to “get serious” in this episode. He still only used an extremely small fraction of his total power, though. I mean, instead of a Massive Rasengan, he could have hit Delta with a Tailed-Beast Bomb if he wanted to.

The fact that we know Naruto only used a small portion of his power against Delta is what I think made this a good fight. Delta was never going to stand a chance. So the confirmation of that was way more satisfying than anything else.

Big Bad Boro

I wasn’t expecting the Boruto series to be structured with multiple Kara member plotlines happening simultaneously. Based on how the start of the “Kara arc” went, it seemed like the Kara members were going to be dealt with one by one.

So far, two of the eight Kara members (I’m not including Kawaki) have been killed. Deepa being killed first makes sense. I’m pretty sure he was an anime-original character, so I have no problem with him being introduced and defeated fairly early on.

Victor is the first “real” Kara member, and he was basically dealt with in the same way as Deepa. He was the first of these other Kara members to be introduced, and he was killed shortly after the others were introduced. So, it makes sense to think that this would be the formula.

However, we’re now at a point at which Koji, Delta, and now Boro are all sharing the spotlight. I’ve written about Koji a lot, so I’m not going to go over him again here. As for Delta and Boro, it might look like Delta is out so now Boro is in, but I don’t think that’s the case.

I don’t believe that Delta is dead. I think she has multiple, manufactured bodies that her consciousness can be moved between. All she did was blow up one of those bodies and then flee via the drone. So Boro isn’t replacing her as the next main villain because she died.

But, it’s clear that Boro is important now. He no longer simply exists as Code does. He actually has a storyline dedicated to him. And from it, we learned that Boro’s personal goal is to reintroduce the Infinite Tsukiyomi. Each Kara member has an individual goal, and that’s his — and his followers’.

Who’s the Traitor?

Before I attempt to pinpoint who among the Kara members is the traitor, allow me to point out that there may not actually be a traitor. I think it’s very possible that it was Kawaki who caused the airship to crash. So, there may not actually be a traitor.

But if there is a traitor, who would it be? I think there are three members we can disqualify immediately: Deepa, Victor, and Jigen. Deepa was dead before any of this went down, so I feel the most confident in disqualifying him as a suspect.

Victor and Jigen could technically both have been involved. However, there did seem to be genuine concern from both of them about the course of events. Victor knew that the airship crashing put his neck on the chopping block, and Jigen obviously doesn’t want to lose his vessel.

I’m also going to say that it’s not Delta. She doesn’t seem like the kind of person to plan ahead. She’s committed to whatever Kara’s overall goal is, and she’ll charge into an unwinnable battle for it. That leaves Koji, Boro, Code, and Amado.

Of these four, I think Koji is the least likely. Sure, he’s taking advantage of the situation to observe Boruto and Kawaki. However, I don’t think he caused the current situation. And while I’m suspicious of Boro and Code, neither of them are showing any interest in Kawaki.

So in the end, I have to say that Amado is probably the traitor if there is one. He’s in the best position to be the traitor. Jigen trusts him and he’s the one who effectively runs Kara’s entire operation. But with that said, I don’t know what he gains from releasing Kawaki.

And, if there isn’t actually a traitor, I think Amado could find himself the victim of an Inner witch hunt. How long will it take for other Inners to start suspecting him due to his role?

Conclusion

What do you think of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Episode 199? Did you like the fight between Naruto and Delta? I would have preferred if Naruto stomped her from the start, honestly. And which Kara Inner do you think is the traitor? Let me know in the comments.
