Boruto Episode 207

Boruto Episode 207

Regeneration

I think in a previous episode I said that Boro might be my favorite Kara member. As far as character designs go, Boro, Delta, and Koji are the top three for me — not particularly in that order. But, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Episode 207 made me realize something.

It turns out that I only like Boro’s character design when he has clothes on. When Boro is fully clothed, he looks cool. Even when his clothes are partially ripped off, he looks cool. But when this big muscle man is running around nude, suddenly he’s not so cool.

Maybe it’s just me, but I felt like he was a lot less threatening once all of his clothes were gone. I couldn’t take him very seriously after that. And when he ballooned up into a giant octopus, that just made things even worse.

In my review of Episode 206, I gave my theory about how Boro’s regeneration worked. Apparently, everything about that theory was incorrect. He wasn’t using a jutsu to continuously regenerate his body and protect it against the virus held within.

However, I kind of like my theory more than reality. Boro having a core somewhere within his body that he can move around to dodge attacks seems a bit tropey. I’ve definitely seen that same thing in other anime, and possibly even in the Naruto series, though I can’t remember when.

In many ways, the reality of Boro’s abilities makes him harder to take down than I was expecting. But at the same time, it also means that if you destroy his entire body in one go, which many characters can do, he’s done for. Overall, his immortality is less interesting than Hidan’s or Kakuzu’s.

Sarada’s Chidori

One “good” thing I will say about the truth behind Boro’s regeneration is that it created the perfect excuse for Sarada to show off her new Chidori jutsu. He has a core that needs to be destroyed with perfect accuracy by someone who can see where he moved it to? What a coincidence.

Seeing Sarada use that jutsu against an actual enemy was cool. But, as I’ve said many times in the past, I’m worried that she’s simply going to become a carbon copy of Sasuke. If she has the Sharingan and all the same jutsu as him, then what’s the difference?

I think that’s why Mitsuki is my favorite member of Team 7. He’s a fresh character who isn’t just a reskin of one of the original Team 7 members. But, as the series progresses, I feel like Boruto and Sarada are getting closer and closer to being copies of their fathers.

Something else I’ve said many times before is that I’d like to see Boruto and Sarada almost swap how they use their Rasengan and Chidori respectively. Boruto could develop a Rasengan that deals piercing damage through a nature change, and Sarada could develop a Chidori that deals damage over a wider area with her chakra control.

At least that way, while they may be using the same base jutsu as their fathers, they’d be using them in different ways. Boruto has even already begun to do this with both his Wind and Lightning style Rasengan.

But, now that Boruto has partially awakened as Momoshiki’s vessel, that actually makes him more similar to Naruto. Just as Naruto has the power of Kurama within him, Boruto now has the power of Momoshiki within him. People said this series was just a copy of Naruto when it started, but I think it’s only gotten closer to being a copy over time.

Momoshiki’s Vessel

I think most of us expected this to eventually happen, but it’s now been effectively confirmed that Boruto is Momoshiki’s vessel. Obviously, Momoshiki was the one who gave him the Karma. But what I mean by being Momoshiki’s vessel is that it’s actually Momoshiki who’s going to control Boruto’s body.

There was some doubt about this being the case when it was mentioned that Boruto and Kawaki would develop into “new” Ōtsutsuki due to their Karma. That seemed to imply that they would be distinct from both Momoshiki and Isshiki.

Also, it doesn’t really make much sense for Kawaki to be Isshiki’s vessel if Jigen is also Isshiki’s vessel while they’re alive at the same time. I don’t know how the transfer process works, though. Maybe Kawaki can’t be possessed by Isshiki until Jigen is gone.

There are some issues I have with Boruto becoming Momoshiki’s vessel, though. For starters, as I just previously mentioned, it makes him very similar to how Naruto was with Kurama. Are we going to see Boruto get possessed by Momoshiki whenever he’s in a dangerous situation?

The other issue is that it looked to me like Boruto had a Byakugan right eye when possessed by Momoshiki. Boruto’s eyes have been pretty controversial throughout this whole series. I seem to recall that he was originally supposed to have Byakugan, but the artist forgot to draw them originally and so he just decided Boruto didn’t have them.

Instead, Boruto has the one Jougan that sometimes appears. Though, I don’t think we’ve seen the Jougan in a long time — did he forget about that too? And, when Jigen was possessed by Isshiki, he didn’t have Byakugan. So why does Boruto get one when possessed by Momoshiki?

Conclusion

What do you think of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Episode 207? Do you like Boro? Do you think he’s going to escape to be repaired by Amado and fight another day? And how do you feel about Boruto and Sarada becoming closer to their fathers? Let me know in the comments.
