To Your Eternity Episode 15

To Your Eternity Episode 15

Honorable Death

To Your Eternity Episode 15 confirms something I pointed out in my review of Episode 14, that Parona is dead. We don’t know how she died, but Pioran claims that she probably died an honorable death by defending someone weaker than her.

Pioran knows that’s the kind of person Parona was, and I have to say that I agree with her. I’m certain that Parona died while defending Ninannah from an attack by the Yanome. As I mentioned last week, Hayase probably led soldiers to the village to capture or kill everyone there.

And, as I also previously mentioned, this seems to be implied by the upcoming events of the story. It hasn’t been confirmed yet, but I’m still certain that Hayase is on Jananda island and is the one who tasked Tonari with luring Pioran and Fushi to the island.

Once Fushi comes face to face with Hayase (which seems to be in the next episode), we’ll probably learn about what really happened to Parona. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Hayase is returning to relevance right after we find out Parona is dead.

Now, Parona is the first character to die off-screen who Fushi can transform into. Sure, we didn’t see Gugu die, but we saw when it happened. I think the only reason Parona’s death wasn’t on-screen is that she wasn’t the main character of her arc.

So, how is Tonari going to die? Tonari is the main character of the Jananda island arc, and so it’s only natural that she’s going to die by the end of it. Well, if you’ve paid attention to the OP of the series, you may already have an idea.

Tonari is the Worst

I’d like to preface this section by saying that I don’t actually know what’s going to happen in the future of this series. But, I’m going to be discussing some of what we see in the OP, which some people may consider spoilers. You’ve been warned.

First of all, I think Tonari is going to have an honorable death just like Parona. Why? Because Parona’s honorable death was brought up in this arc and Tonari is anything but honorable. She’s the worst. She lies, cheats, scams, and doesn’t really care about anyone but herself and her friends.

And that’s exactly why her having an honorable death at the end of the arc would be good for her character development. My guess is that Tonari is going to commit suicide, and possibly take Hayase down with her.

There are a few things in the OP that lead me to this conclusion. First, we see that Tonari’s friends are apparently infected by a Nokker and look like zombies. If her friends are zombified, then Tonari doesn’t really have anything to live for anymore.

On top of that, there are two scenes in which we see Hayase holding Tonari over what appears to be a volcano. And in the second of these scenes, Tonari looks towards the viewer and is crying blood. It seems pretty clear to me that this is the scene before she dies.

So, my guess is that Hayase uses Tonari as a hostage to get Fushi to surrender. But, since Tonari has nothing left to live for, she sacrifices herself. Either she throws herself into the volcano so she can’t be used as a hostage, or she pulls Hayase into the volcano with her.

In either case, her death could be seen as honorable because she sacrificed herself to help Fushi defeat his enemy.

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

I believe it was twice in this episode that Tonari told Fushi that sometimes you need to rely on other people. Sure, Tonari probably isn’t someone Fushi should be taking advice from. But at the end of this episode, we saw that Fushi was able to take down the Nokker thanks to everyone’s help.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Fushi has teamed up with someone to take down an enemy — he did the same with Gugu. But what I’m wondering is how this is going to change Fushi moving forward. After all, Gugu died when he fought alongside Fushi, so this is a very different outcome.

Is the fact that the islanders fought alongside him only going to be relevant to Fushi’s character within this arc? For example, is it going to make the fact that they get turned into zombies more impactful, but otherwise be forgotten once he leaves the island?

Or, is this a sign that Fushi is going to be more trusting of other people going forward? If he doesn’t end up saving Pioran by the end of the arc, he’s going to be alone again. Will he seek out new companions? Or will he attempt to avoid them so as to protect them from the Nokkers?

I think it’s clear that Fushi is going to keep coming into close contact with various people throughout his travels. That’s what the series is all about. But I’m looking forward to seeing if his experience on Jananda island changes anything about how he views others.

If he does start trusting and becoming close to humans again, does that lessen the impact Gugu’s death had on him in any way? I don’t think so. Gugu wouldn’t want Fushi to live his life alone.

Conclusion

What do you think of To Your Eternity Episode 15? Do you actually like Tonari? I think she’s an interesting character, but I hate her as a person. How do you think she’s going to die? And what lesson do you think Fushi will learn from this arc? Let me know in the comments.
