Amado’s Defection

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Episode 212 didn’t fit as much content in as I had hoped it would. But, it was still a pretty good episode regardless. The next episode should be good as well considering there’s going to be a fight between Koji and Jigen.

So let’s talk about Amado’s defection since that’s what this week’s episode was all about. First of all, I don’t think Amado is very good at defecting. Something tells me that taking a high-profile hostage from the place you want to defect to isn’t a very effective strategy.

I know he kept saying that they don’t have much time and that he needs to speak to Shikamaru (and Naruto) quickly. But I’m not sure that taking Shikadai hostage was the best way to do that. Just walk up to the front gate and announce yourself as Kara — someone important will show up real quick.

Something I liked about Amado in this episode is that it was seemingly confirmed that he’s not a shinobi of any kind. He solely used scientific ninja tools to fight. However, that could just be because he invented them, and not because he can’t use jutsu.

That’s not to say Amado can’t hold his own in combat, though. I still stand by my previous assertion that he’s a non-combatant. But he has the tools necessary to counter genin and perhaps some chunin-level shinobi. I doubt he could stop a jonin in their tracks, though.

With that said, Amado does appear to have one major weakness. Many of his long-range tools seem to be voice-activated. So if he can’t speak, I guess they’re just useless. And there are many ways to make it so he can’t speak.

Six Thrones

There have been multiple references to there being six Ōtsutsuki clan members who are relevant to the story. For example, we previously saw six symbols representing individual Ōtsutsuki clan members where Jigen was holding the Ten-Tails.

In Episode 212, we now also see Jigen sitting in a room with six thrones. Each is adorned with a depiction of the Sharinnegan, which is the dōjutsu received by the Ōtsutsuki clan when they eat the fruit of the chakra tree.

And, let’s not forget that there have actually been a total of six Ōtsutsuki clan members revealed throughout the story. These are Kaguya, Toneri, Momoshiki, Kinshiki, Urashiki, and Isshiki.

What we don’t know is whether these six clan members are the six clan members. At the very least, we can be sure that Kaguya, Momoshiki, Kinshiki, and Isshiki are. They were all confirmed as such by Sasuke at the location of the Ten-Tails.

We don’t actually have confirmation for Urashiki or Toneri being included, though. However, I’d argue that Urashiki is one of the six who the thrones Jigen is seen sitting on was made for. And the reason I say that is because way back in Naruto: Shippūden Episode 462, he was depicted alongside Momoshiki and Kinshiki.

Toneri is an odd one, though. He’s the only Ōtsutsuki featured in the present timeline who isn’t pure-blood. He’s a descendant of Kaguya’s son Hamura, who himself was only half Ōtsutsuki. So, I find it hard to believe that he’s the sixth clan member referenced in all of this Ōtsutsuki architecture.

In fact, Toneri probably wasn’t even born yet when it was made. So that leads me to believe that there’s still another Ōtsutsuki clan member out there waiting to be revealed. Or, you know, the identity of the last one could just be left a mystery forever.

Koji vs. Jigen

At this point, if we consider Koji and Amado to no longer be members of Kara, there are only three Kara members remaining. These are Jigen, Delta, and Code. That’s it. And with Jigen weakened and Delta allegedly out of commission, this is the best opportunity for Koji to kill the former.

I don’t remember what Code is up to, though. So it’s very possible that Code could come to Jigen’s rescue during their battle. Or, maybe Delta will manage to slip into one of her additional bodies. I seriously doubt she’s been defeated for good simply by Amado turning her off.

Now, obviously, Koji isn’t going to kill Jigen here. Jigen is the main antagonist, so he’s eventually going to be taken down by the Boruto-Kawaki wombo-combo. However, that doesn’t mean that their fight is going to end without an interesting result.

The next episode is titled “True Identity.” So, naturally, you might expect that Koji Kashin’s true identity (being a clone of Jiraiya) is going to be revealed. While it’s obvious who he is to us, this is going to be a huge reveal for Naruto and even Boruto.

Additionally, if Koji’s identity is revealed to them during this fight, it actually sets up a situation in which Koji gets killed by Jigen. I don’t need Naruto and Koji to meet. I don’t think meeting Koji would give Naruto any closure. As long as he learns of his connection to Jiraiya, I think that will be good enough.

But, what if it’s not Koji’s identity getting revealed next week? Again, we as the viewers know that Jigen is Isshiki’s vessel. But the Leaf shinobi just have a rough idea of how Jigen is connected to the Ōtsutsuki. So a confirmation of Jigen’s identity would also be massive for them.
