That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 Episode 46

Since this review is a day later than usual, I actually heard about the contents of TenSura Episode 46 before I watched it myself. I heard that it was potentially the best episode of the season. After watching it, I don’t think I agree with that.

The fight between Rimuru and Hinata from this season (not cour) was a better episode. I think Rimuru and Hinata finally coming face to face was potentially a bigger deal than Rimuru fighting Clayman. As for this cour, I can’t think of anything offhand that’s necessarily better. But I’m sure there was something.

I still don’t view Clayman as anyone dangerous. Sure, he’s a demon lord. But we’ve never seen him show his true power, he always gets other people to fight for him, and now we know even the other demon lords don’t respect him.

When Rimuru states that he’s going to kill Clayman in front of the other demon lords (multiple times), none of them even bat an eye. And it’s not because they don’t believe Rimuru is capable of such a feat. They just don’t care if Clayman dies.

Something else I noticed, which I guess I should have noticed earlier, is that every demon lord is from a different race. Well, unless you’re counting both Valentine and his “maid” — they’re both vampires. But, everyone thinks his “maid” is dead, so it still works out.

Does this imply that there can only be one recognized demon lord for each race at a time? Or does this simply happen to be a coincidence? Also, I find it odd that Cromwell isn’t a human. I was sure he was one, but maybe a human can’t be a demon lord as I theorized might be the case earlier this season.

Demon Lord Duel

Maybe this should be expected from a duel between demon lords, but the rules don’t seem to apply to both sides fairly. Or, perhaps it’s better to say that the rules only apply when Guy Crimson feels like applying them.

For starters, the barrier was erected so that no outside parties could interfere. And yet, Beretta is later allowed to enter the barrier to assist Rimuru. But, that’s not the worst case of rule-breaking going on here.

Guy also states that Milim can join the fight on Clayman’s side as long as she does so of her own free will. Later on, Guy also mentions that Milim is probably allying with Clayman because she has a plan. But it seems pretty obvious to everyone else that she’s being controlled. Rimuru even states as much.

Is Guy just dense, or is he allowing Clayman to break that rule for some other reason?

Building on Guy’s allowance of Milim to participate in the fight, he doesn’t let Ramiris participate on Rimuru’s side. And he really doesn’t give any good reason for doing so. He simply says that Ramiris doesn’t have anything to do with the fight and so has no reason to be involved.

But, what about the attendants of both Rimuru and Clayman? Well, they don’t follow the rules either. Before Beretta was allowed to enter the arena — which only came after she swore loyalty to Ramiris — Guy claimed that attendants weren’t allowed to participate in demon lord duels.

Not only does this contradict his eventual allowance of Beretta to join, but it contradicts how the duel has gone from the start. Both Rimuru and Clayman are fighting alongside their attendants.

It really does seem like the rules of the duel change depending on what Guy thinks will be the most entertaining to watch.

Storm Dragon Veldora Tempest

Before watching the episode, I had heard that Veldora shows up at the end. I was hoping that he would have some cool and intimidating entrance. Obviously, that’s not what happened. He appeared only to be punched in the back of the head by Milim.

But, although his entrance was very uncool, I think it did a good job of showing just how powerful Veldora actually is. Sure, he was hurt from Milim’s punch, but not much. It looked like it was the same amount of pain as if you stubbed your toe.

Stubbing your toe hurts, but you’re generally going to be over it in less than a minute. That’s the kind of injury Veldora appears to have received from Milim. And when you consider that punch would have killed Rimuru if it made contact with him, it says a lot about Veldora.

Is Veldora really going to participate in the fight? Probably for at least a short period of time. He’ll probably hold off Milim while Rimuru figures out how he’s supposed to bring her back to her senses. But I don’t see Veldora cleaning up and going all out against his opponents.

There’s also the question of what’s going to happen to Clayman. Rimuru has stated that he’s going to kill Clayman, but will this really happen? Honestly, I don’t know. Right now, I think it could go either way.

However, I don’t think that because Rimuru might choose not to kill him. We’ve already seen that when Rimuru decides to kill people, he’s fully capable of doing so without remorse. But, I could see Clayman somehow escaping and running away to his master like the coward he is.

Conclusion
