Mushoku Tensei Part 2 Episode 1

Mushoku Tensei Part 2 Episode 1

Dead End is Back

If you’re not aware, I loved the first season of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation. So, obviously, I decided to review the second season weekly. This was definitely my most anticipated anime of the season, and so far, the first episode hasn’t disappointed.

Let’s get one thing out of the way up front. Yes, I know there are going to be people who complain about Rudy being horny all the time. It doesn’t bother me, though, so I’m not going to be focusing on that at all in these reviews unless it’s a major part of the episode.

Now, onto Episode 1 specifically. I didn’t realize how much I missed Eris as a character until the opening few scenes of this episode. She’s genuinely a great character, regardless of how you feel about the series as a whole. And no, she’s not just a tsundere.

I loved how she attempted to help when Rudy was thinking about how they’re going to get enough money to bring Ruijerd to the Millis continent with them. Her idea that he could just run across the ocean was great. Not just because it’s funny, but because it shows how she’s just a kid who thinks the person she looks up to can do anything.

But, although Eris doesn’t really have the best ideas, she does genuinely try to be helpful in her own way. She knows her weak points — anything that isn’t physical combat — and she actively tries to improve in those areas.

Rudy and Ruijerd aren’t bad characters either, despite how much people hate Rudy. I’m hoping Roxy joins Dead End too at some point in this season. I’d like to see how she gets along with Ruijerd and Eris.

Great Demon Emperor Kishirika Kishirisu

When the Great Demon Emperor Kishirika Kishirisu was revealed, I actually thought that she was going to offer to join Rudy’s party. And, to be honest, I was really hoping I was going to be wrong in that regard.

Kishirika seems like a fun character, don’t get me wrong. But her personality seems like it would get really annoying if she was always around. I’d much rather her be the type of character who shows up every once in a while and causes absolute chaos. And luckily, that seems like it’s going to be the case.

As for her role in this episode, she gave Rudy a demon eye that allows him to see a short distance into the future. The more mana he directs to the eye, the farther into the future he can see. For now, he can see up to 2 seconds into the future, but things get blurry beyond 1 second.

There are two key bits of information we get about Kishirika that interest me, though. The first is that she’s said to have 12 demon eyes inside her body and that she grants them to people as rewards for helping her.

To me, this seems to be setting up for Dead End to come across other people with demon eyes in the future. I don’t think we need to see all 12 of them throughout the series. But they seem fairly important, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see maybe 2 or 3 others besides Rudy’s.

And the second piece of information that interests me is that Kishirika has a fiancé. That seemed like more than a gag. I’m assuming the next time we see her is going to be when Rudy meets said fiancé, whoever he may be.

Passage to the Millis Continent

At the start of the episode, we learned (or were reminded) that the continent Rudy and Eris are attempting to get to is the Millis Continent. We’ve known ever since they arrived on the Demon Continent that they’ve wanted to get home. I just don’t know if we knew the name of their homeland.

I’m also going to assume that Millis is their homeland and not just another continent along the way. They didn’t mention needing to go anywhere after Millis, so that seems likely to be their ultimate destination.

From what I remember, we never got a world map in the first season. Hopefully, that’s something we get to see this season because I love my fantasy maps. There’s usually a lot you can learn just from a simple map with named locations on it.

As for how the members of Dead End are going to make their way to Millis, Gallus Cleaner seems like the most logical path. He’s the guy Rudy saved from being hit by a falling pot, and I have a feeling that he’s either going to be a smuggler or otherwise owns a ship and is going to help them out.

This is slightly disappointing because I did want to be able to explore the Demon Continent a bit more. I really liked what we saw of it in the first season and this first episode of the second season. And I think there are a lot more stories that could be told here.

But, based on Gallus’s appearance at the end of the episode, and the fact the next episode is titled “Missed Connections,” I think Dead End is leaving the continent soon. The “missed connection” likely refers to Rudy leaving the continent without running into Roxy, who’s also there.

Conclusion

What do you think of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Part 2 Episode 1? Is this your most anticipated anime of the season? Do you think the 12 demon eyes of Kishirika are going to be important? And, will Rudy and Eris make it home by the end of this season? Let me know in the comments.
