Mushoku Tensei Part 2 Episode 4

Mushoku Tensei Part 2 Episode 4

Eris and the Beastkin

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Part 2 Episode 4 was probably the worst episode of this half of the series so far. But, I still thought it was an interesting episode because of the lore we got, primarily in the second half of the episode.

The first half of the episode, however, had some good Eris content, which I’m always a fan of. Despite how much I do like Roxy, Eris is definitely my favorite character of the series. She’s the one who’s had the most development so far and I love her personality.

I don’t believe she wore her hair in twin tails in the previous episode, but I like how that’s her style while in Dedoldia. She even changes the clothes she wears to fit in with the locals. Little details like that really go a long way in making a fantasy world feel real.

And, going along with Eris’s adoption of beastkin clothing is how she’s able to befriend just about anyone she meets. After she gets over her initial apprehension, Eris is able to act as though she’s known someone or belonged somewhere her whole life.

We previously saw that with her and Ruijerd. She was obviously terrified of him at first. But once she realized that Ruijerd was their ally, she quickly became best friends with him. She trusts and looks up to him, trains with him, and was even upset when she thought Rudy was going to leave him on the Demon Continent.

That’s effectively the same thing that’s going on here with the beastkin. Eris has grown up around beastkin thanks to her grandfather, and so she views all of the Dedoldians as her extended family despite not meeting them before.

Sword King Ghislaine

Before I get into Ghislaine’s backstory, I want to take a moment to go over her title of “Sword King.” As far as I know, that title simply means that she’s highly skilled in the Sword God style of combat.

And, based on information we get from Geese toward the end of the episode, we can assume that the Sword God is the one who developed this style. However, it’s unclear if Sword God is an achievable title as well or if it simply refers to a singular person.

Anyway, the fact that Ghislaine is not only a Sword King is kind of a big deal. As is the fact that she learned how to read, write, and do arithmetic, was learning magic, and is generally respected by people such as Eris and Rudy.

As we learn, Gyes, who appears to be the top Dedoldian warrior, is Ghislaine’s older brother. And what he tells Rudy is that Ghislaine was essentially a wild animal during her time in the village, refusing to learn to fight, speak, or anything else.

In fact, Ghislaine was such a problem child that Gyes was relieved when a traveler showed up one day and took her away. We don’t know who this traveler was other than that he was a swordsman. But, we can assume that he was the one who trained Ghislaine to be a Sword King.

I considered the fact that this traveling swordsman might have been Paul Greyrat, but he’s too young. It’s possible that Eris’s grandfather is the swordsman who took Ghislaine in. We may never know since he’s now been executed and Ghislaine is missing, but it seems likely to me.

Also, I want to say I think Ghislaine’s backstory was an interesting twist. I was prepared for Gyes to get mad about Eris having a Dedoldian ring because her grandfather trafficked beastkin or something.

Legends & Myths

Alright, now on to the part of the review that I’m most interested in writing. At the end of the episode, Geese, who apparently broke out of jail, tells us of two very interesting legends about the world Rudy finds himself in.

First up, we have Saint Millis, who, according to legend, carved a road out of the mountains and forests with a single swing of his sword. Because Rudy is so sure this is just a myth, I’m going to guess that it’s actually true — at least in part.

Then, we have the legend of the Seven Great Powers, the seven strongest beings in the world. These are the Technique God, Dragon God, Battle God, Demon God, Death God, Sword God, and North God (ranked from strongest to weakest).

Rudy, Eris, and Geese

For now, we don’t know the identities of any of these people, and Geese mentions that it’s not even known if the first four are still alive. But since he only mentioned that the first four may be dead, that implies the others are alive and that all seven are very much real.

I think Saint Millis and the Sword God could be one and the same if you consider the feat Saint Millis is said to have accomplished. But as for characters we’ve met, I don’t think any of them fit these roles.

Now, remember, Rudy did meet the Great Demon Emperor Kishirika Kishirisu. But since Ruijerd didn’t bring that up when the Demon God was mentioned, I don’t think she’s the Demon God.

However, Kishirika did mention that she has a fiancé. So it’s possible that he could be the Demon God. And, as with Kishirika’s 12 demon eyes, I don’t think Rudy has to meet all of the Seven Great Powers. But he’ll probably meet a few of them.

Conclusion

What do you think about Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Part 2 Episode 4? Would you spy on Eris and the beastkin girls while they bathe? Why do you think Ghislaine’s life turned around? And how many of the Seven Great Powers do you think Rudy will personally meet? Let me know in the comments.
