Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Part 2 Episode 11

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Part 2 Episode 11

The End of Dead End

Just last week I said that I didn’t think it was possible for the remaining two episodes of the season to beat Episode 10. Well, although Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Episode 11 wasn’t as good from an animation perspective, I do genuinely think it was a better episode.

However, the reason I think it’s such a good episode is actually that it legitimately ruined my day. How does that make it a good episode? Well, an episode, and series in general, has to be extremely good for me to be invested enough in it for that to happen.

But, let’s back up and start at the beginning of the episode with Ruijerd leaving Dead End. I thought this might happen. But, to be honest, I figured he’d disappear in the middle of the night after his talk with Rudy.

Ruijerd’s goal was always to protect Rudy and Eris on their journey home. He didn’t make it to Eris’s hometown, but he got close enough. So, really, it makes sense for him to part ways with them at this point.

Additionally, he knows that the curse on the Sperd tribe is almost gone. And while he credits Rudy with this progress, he doesn’t want to completely rely on Rudy. Ruijerd wants to take the final steps on his own as a Sperd.

I hope we’ll get to see Ruijerd again and that Rudy and Eris will be reunited with him. But at the same time, I’m satisfied with this being the conclusion of his story. I’ll accept learning about the great deeds of a Sperd later on and knowing that it’s Ruijerd rather than seeing it play out for myself.

Alive, Dead, and Missing

For the first time since the mana disaster occurred, we have confirmation that Ghislaine is alive and well. Rudy and Eris were reunited with her, and that was great to see. Unfortunately, while Ghislaine is alive, there are many others who are still missing or have been confirmed dead.

We already knew that Eris’s grandfather was executed, as did both Rudy and Eris. But what we learned in this episode is that both of Eris’s parents are also confirmed, by Ghislaine, to have died.

Both of Eris’s parents were teleported together during the mana disaster and ended up dying in a war in another country. We don’t know the circumstances of their deaths. But to me, it seems likely that the country they found themselves in was attacked rather than them dying in battle or something.

Rudy, was lucky in that he didn’t come home to news that was anywhere near as bad as what Eris returned to. Rudy’s mother, Zenith, is still missing. That’s not ideal, but at least she hasn’t been confirmed dead. And considering Zenith was an S-rank adventurer, I think she can survive on her own.

Aside from Zenith, the other person Rudy wants to find is Sylphie, his childhood friend. The good news is that Sylphie is confirmed to be alive — at least she was at some point after the mana disaster. We know this because her name was crossed off from the missing list, but wasn’t added to the deceased list.

Unfortunately, Sylphie’s current whereabouts are unknown. However, now that Rudy knows Sylphie is alive, I believe that locating her is going to be his main priority. And, considering what happens next in the episode, I’ll be shocked if that’s not the case.

I Don’t Know How to Feel

Alright, now we’re at the part of the episode that ruined my day. As you’ll know if you’ve read my other episode reviews, Eris is my favorite character. I love everything about her. When Eris smiles, I smile. She’s the reason I get up in the morning.

Now, when she proposed sleeping with Rudy, I was surprised, to say the least. And I really thought Rudy would say no to her. That didn’t happen. Eris sleeps with Rudy, which I never expected to happen. But, just because it was shocking doesn’t mean it’s bad.

Eris sleeping with Rudy isn’t what ruined my day; what happened next is. When Rudy wakes up the next morning, he finds Eris is gone, her hair has all been cut off and left on the floor, and a note is on the nightstand from her telling him that she’s gone on a journey because they’re not “balanced” right now.

When Rudy attempts to find where Eris went, he’s told that she left with Ghislaine and that Eris’s instructions were for Rudy to not be told where she was headed. Do you see why I’m so upset about this yet?

Eris, the light of my life, is effectively gone from the series at this point. What’s the point of watching Mushoku Tensei if I won’t get to see Eris’s smile? The answer is that there isn’t one other than to hope that she’ll return every episode.

But, I don’t think this is the end of the world. I believe Rudy and Eris will be reunited once again. And the reason I believe that is Eris’s note. When she said they weren’t “balanced” I believe she meant that she isn’t currently strong enough to stand beside Rudy as his equal.

Rudy is the strongest mage Eris knows of. She wants to get to that point as a swordsman so that she and Rudy can balance each other’s strengths and weaknesses.

Conclusion

I’m not going to ask what you thought of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Episode 11 this week. Instead, I’m going to leave you with a different question to consider.

On December 11th, a day before the episode aired, I joked that the Eris pregnancy arc was about to begin. Little did I know Eris was actually about to sleep with Rudy. So, here’s the question: Do you think Eris is going to give birth to Rudy’s child on her journey?

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go sit in a dark room for the rest of the day and mourn the loss of my beloved Eris.
