Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Part 2 Episode 12

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Part 2 Episode 12

Catching Up with Everyone

Once again, Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Part 2 Episode 12 is a great episode. I’m going to have to think about this part of the series for a while before I can finally settle on a score for it.

This episode is the perfect example of a final episode (of a season) done right. I hate what I call “cool-down” episodes at the ends of arcs that don’t add anything of value. This wasn’t one of those.

We got some more background on Rudy, which I honestly don’t care about, and we caught up with a bunch of the other characters we’ve met throughout the series. Obviously, this included Eris and Roxy. But, we also got to see Ruijerd, Geese, Kishirika, the beastmen, the demons, and more.

I think the way this episode reminded us of all these various characters is why it’s so good. It showed us that these characters don’t solely exist within the small scope we saw them in originally. They’re individuals with their own lives and adventures that don’t stop just because they aren’t on screen.

For example, the demon adventurers from the end of Part 1 are shown to have made it to the coast of the Demon Continent. I’ll be surprised if those characters play a major role going forward, so we didn’t need to catch up with them. But it helps build the world out and makes it feel more real.

Even if these various supporting characters don’t play a large role in the series, later on, I’d still like to see them again as we did here. It’d be cool to see them cross paths with other main characters, such as what happened with Roxy and Kishirika.

The Adventure of Eris

I’m glad we got to see Eris again this week despite the episode not following her adventure with Ghislaine. I don’t like short-haired anime girls. But, I’m willing to put that aside for Eris, my beloved. Any time she’s on screen, I like it.

Something I’m glad that was included in Eris’s brief time on screen was the confirmation of what I said about her in my Episode 11 review. Back then, I stated that Eris was leaving Rudy because she viewed Rudy as the best mage around and that Eris wanted to train to a point when she can be the swordsman version of his equal.

The reason I’m glad that was included isn’t actually because it proves that I was right, as I always am. It’s because Eris also points out something I forgot. She points out that she never conceived that Rudy could die.

So, while I was thinking that Eris wanted to get stronger so that she could stand proudly beside Rudy as his equal, she actually wants to get stronger so that she can protect him just as he protected her.

She still wants to be his equal. But, she wants to be his equal for a reason better than that she simply feels sorry for herself when comparing herself to Rudy. And I have to say, I like that. Eris’s character never disappoints me. I love that she’s always striving to improve herself, which is something she mentions Rudy does and is why she looks up to him.

If Mushoku Tensei gets a second season (remember, this is just the second part of the first season), I’d like some of the episodes to follow Eris’s adventure. We got that for Roxy a bit in this season, and I think doing the same for Eris now would help to further build her character for her eventual reunion with Rudy.

Searching for Zenith

Based on how this episode ended, I think the next arc of the series is going to hit a lot of the points I already touched on in this review that I want to see in the future. Zenith is the final member of Rudy’s family who’s missing, and the search for her seems like it’s going to bring a few characters back together.

I always figured that Roxy’s party would find Zenith. I said as much in my review of Episode 7. And, now Roxy knows where Zenith is thanks to Kishirika. Zenith is located somewhere on the Begaritt Continent.

But, there’s another character who’s on the Begaritt continent as well. And we actually saw him there in this episode. Can you guess who?

If you guessed that Geese is currently searching for Zenith on the Begaritt Continent, you’d be correct. Back at the end of Episode 6, Geese tells Paul that he’s headed to the Begaritt Continent next. And in this episode, we see Geese traveling across a desert and that Zenith is somewhere in the desert as well.

So, I think we’re going to get an arc with Roxy and Geese partying up. And, considering Roxy’s current party members are also former party members of Paul’s, they probably already know Geese as well.

As for Rudy’s involvement, I didn’t initially think he’d be present for the rescue of Zenith. But because of the scene pictured above, I’m now debating it. I still kind of think Rudy won’t save Zenith, though. And that’s because of the final scene of the episode with who I assume to be Sylphie.

It seems like Rudy’s going to get caught up in something else involving Sylphie while Roxy and Geese save Zenith. And I have to say, I’m not a fan of Sylphie’s new character design.

Conclusion

What do you think of the final episode of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Part 2? Did you like that we got to see where a lot of the side characters are now? What’s your opinion on Eris’s new haircut? And did you remember that Geese was traveling to Begaritt? Let me know in the comments.
