Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Episode 233

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Episode 233

A Mission to the Hidden Mist

In Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Episode 233, Team 7 — now with Kawaki as a member — is given a mission to escort Dr. Katasuke to the Hidden Mist Village. There, the doctor is to attend the grand revealing of the Hidden Mist’s state-of-the-art powerplant.

The reason Team 7 was assigned to this mission is that there are also rumors that terrorists are going to attack during the ceremony. If these rumors are credible, which they are, maybe a Jonin should have been sent along with them as well.

Anyway, something I found strange about this episode right from the start is that we skipped from Kawaki being tested with other teams to him being placed with Team 7. In Episode 230, Naruto explicitly tells Kawaki that the two of them are going to be going on missions together.

Now, for the rest of this review, let’s just forget about the whole powerplant reveal ceremony and focus on the Hidden Mist’s prison. Okay, sure, an airship was taken down at the ceremony and everyone aboard died. Who cares? I want to write about the prison.

So, what’s cool about this prison is that it’s designed specifically with Hidden Mist criminals in mind. As the Hidden Mist Village is located within the Land of Water, Water-style jutsu are the specialty of those who live there.

This means that the prison had to be built in a location where the prisoners, and anyone trying to break them out, wouldn’t have access to water. Naturally, that means the prison was built in the middle of the desert. And, as I’ll discuss later, the prison even has additional safeguards in place to combat Water-style jutsu.

The New Seven Ninja Swordsmen

Considering that it’s been over 200 episodes since we last saw the New Seven Ninja Swordsmen, you may not entirely remember who they are. This was a group of Hidden Mist criminals who wanted to gather the Hidden Mist’s seven legendary blades and use them to revive the “Blood Mist Village.”

The members of this group were Shizuma Hoshigaki, Kagura Karatachi, Kyohou Fuefuki, Hebiichigo, Buntan Kurosuki, Ichirouta Oniyuzu, and Hassaku Onomichi. Yes, the Kagura who now serves as warden of the prison was once a member of this criminal gang.

However, Kagura’s former role in the gang isn’t why I brought them up. While giving Boruto a tour of the prison, Kagura mentioned that three of the members are still housed there while the other three managed to escape.

Kyohou, Hebiichigo, and Buntan remain within the walls of the prison. Shizuma, Ichirouta, and Hassaku are those who managed to escape. Kagura seems to believe that the reason three of them stayed behind is that they’re no longer following Shizuma.

However, I don’t believe that’s the case. Based on the way they reacted to Kagura’s assumption about them, I think it’s safe to say they still believe in Shizuma’s goal. So, why were they left behind during the escape? Were they simply unable to get out? That seems unlikely.

My guess is that half of the group was intentionally left within the prison to facilitate a larger prison break in the future. There are many powerful criminals inside the prison. And if Shizuma wants to start a revolution within the Hidden Mist Village, he’ll probably need their help.

That’s where Kyohou, Hebiiichigo, and Buntan come in. While most of the Hidden Mist shinobi are preoccupied with the terrorist attack at the ceremony, a prison break coordinated by those inside is going to take place.

Prison Break

The primary target of this prison break is undoubtedly going to be Araumi Funato, leader of a band of pirates within the Land of Water. As far as we know, he’s the most dangerous criminal held within the prison.

While this wasn’t explicitly stated, I think we can assume the terrorists who want to destroy the powerplant are members of Araumi’s group. And, it’s these terrorists who I’m assuming the New Seven (six) Ninja Swordsmen have teamed up with. So, Kyohou, Hebiichigo, and Buntan were left in the prison to help Araumi escape.

Unfortunately, we don’t know what jutsu Araumi’s capable of using other than that he’s a Water-style user. But we do know that he’s such a powerful Water-style user that all moisture has to be removed from his “cell.” If any moisture gets in, it’s assumed he would be able to use it to escape.

This is where we get to the additional security features of the prison. Not only is the prison located in the middle of the desert, but the maximum-security wing is kept at a high temperature. This is to ensure that any moisture that gets into the wing evaporates quickly.

The “cell” Araumi is held in goes even further. It’s so hot within the glass bubble he’s inside that his body has become dried out and withered. And beyond that, his hands are bound in such a way that makes it impossible for him to form hand signs even if he wasn’t a living mummy.

I don’t care too much about the New Seven Ninja Swordsmen. But I am very much looking forward to seeing what Araumi and his followers are capable of. To say my expectations are high based on how he was built up in this episode would be an understatement.

Conclusion

What do you think about Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Episode 233? Did my refresher on who the New Seven Ninja Swordsmen are help at all? And what kinds of jutsu do you think Araumi will be able to use? I’m guessing something that specifically uses his own body moisture.
