Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 2 Episode 76

Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 2 Episode 76

Introduction to the Final Season Part 2

Attack on Titan is back for the second part of the Final Season, and I have some disclaimers to mention before getting into the review of Episode 76. The first and most important thing is that I’ve read the manga.

Obviously, I’m not going to spoil anything from the manga. I read the manga after Season 3 Part 2 and was able to review the first part of the Final Season just fine. So, you don’t have to worry about that.

Also, I think the ending of Attack on Titan is garbage. If you don’t mind spoilers, you can read my thoughts on the final manga chapter. But, basically, I’m really hoping the anime follows the manga’s ending because I think it’ll be funny.

If you’re hoping for this series to have a good ending, I’m sorry, but I’m rooting against you for my own amusement.

Levi and Zeke

Despite having watched every episode of the anime and having read the manga, I still forgot what happened before the start of this episode. I get that the previous episode ended with Levi and Zeke blowing up. But it would have been nice to get a 1-2 minute recap.

Anyway, one thing I do remember is how Zeke survived the explosion. Now, I don’t believe this was illustrated very well in the anime, but the manga made it more clear. After taking an explosion at point-blank range, Zeke uses Beast Titan ability to save himself.

As you’re probably aware, the Beast Titan is able to create and control normal titans. So, Zeke simply called a normal titan to him and had it stuff what remained of Zeke’s body into its own. Then, Zeke was able to use that normal titan to help regenerate his body.

Hopefully, that clears things up for anyone who was confused about what we witnessed at the start of this episode. But, what about Levi? Is he alive? Is he dead? Well, we simply don’t know at this stage.

We did get a shot of Levi’s face at one point and he looked pretty dead. However, Hange’s actions imply otherwise. If Levi really was dead, why would she escape with his body as she did? At the very least, this tells us that Hange isn’t convinced it’s too late to save Levi.

Whether or not he can actually be saved is up for debate at this point. And something I love about Attack on Titan is that Isayama (the author) has never shied away from killing off major characters. In most other series, we’d be able to safely assume Levi is going to survive; but not necessarily in this series.

Attack on Paradis (Again)

Something a quick recap would have helped with is reminding me about everything surrounding the current attack on Paradis by Marleyan forces. Paradis gets attacked so many times in the series that I honestly don’t know which attack this is and where it falls within the overall scope of the series.

That makes it a little difficult for me to comment on a lot of aspects of this attack. I don’t want to say something that hasn’t been revealed in the anime yet. So, I’m just going to stick to things we physically saw or were told in this episode.

First off, Commander Magath is now General Magath, leader of the Marleyan armed forces. Good for him. I’ve always liked Magath ever since he was first introduced at the start of the Final Season. He’s like the Marleyan version of Commander Pixis.

We also know that while Pieck doesn’t necessarily trust the Marleyan government, she still trusts her comrades. This is important because it mirrors the character growth we saw for Gabi in the first part of the season.

Remember, Gabi started out as a staunch supporter of Marley despite being an Eldian herself. She believed all the propaganda and lies about the Paradis Eldians. But, as she spent more time on Paradis, she learned that there are good and bad people on both sides of the war.

Gabi still very much believes in fighting for the side of Marley, though, because she doesn’t want to abandon her friends and family. And Pieck reinforces this idea. She confirms to Gabi that it’s okay to fight for the sake of her comrades.

The Paradis Alliance

There are a lot of different alliances throughout Attack on Titan. Right now, there are the Marleyans, the Yeagerists, and what I’m going to call the Paradis Alliance. The Paradis Alliance includes the Paradis Eldians and their allies who want to fight for Paradis, but who aren’t allied with Eren and Yelena.

This includes most of the surviving main cast from the start of the series, Onyankopon now that he’s been accepted by the group, and some other supporting characters introduced in the Final Season. I only remember Onyankopon’s name. Sorry, other characters.

The Paradis Alliance’s goal is to create a nation where people of all different backgrounds and appearances can live in peace. As such, they naturally oppose Marley, which is a nation of subjugation. Remember, Onyankopon originally joined the resistance because of Marley’s occupation of his homeland.

However, the Paradis Alliance is also naturally opposed to the goals of the Yeagerists as well as the means by which they seek to achieve those goals. The Yeagerists are seeking revenge and want to use the power of the titans to fight back against Marley and the rest of the world.

The Yeagerists’ plan also involves euthanizing the Eldian bloodline by magically sterilizing them. Then, once all the currently living Eldians die out, the power of the Titans will die with them and the world will be at peace. Well, except that war still happens even without Titans.

Sterilization goes against the beliefs of the Paradis Alliance. They’re working toward making a better future in which all people are accepted as equals for who they are. They don’t want a manufactured future of equals in which those who are “more” or “less” equal are removed.

Conclusion

What do you think of Attack on Titan: The Final Season Episode 76? Did you think it was a good episode? I noticed the season is rated at 8.90 currently on MyAnimeList. I’m really curious as to what the rating is going to be after the season concludes if it follows the path of the manga.
