Boruto Episode 215

Boruto Episode 215

Isshiki is Pretty Lame

Let’s start off this review of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Episode 215 by correcting a misunderstanding I had last week regarding some of Isshiki Ōtsutsuki’s jutsu. Sukunahikona and Daikokuten aren’t opposites, with the former shrinking objects and the latter enlarging them.

Instead, Sukunahikona is the jutsu used for both shrinking and enlarging objects. Daikokuten is a space-time type jutsu that allows Isshiki to store objects he’s resized in another dimension and retrieve them at will.

However, Daikokuten doesn’t work in the same way as a Rinnegan or Karma portal that allow people to travel between dimensions. It merely allows Isshiki to store objects in a pocket dimension. You can think of it like a dōjutsu version of a scroll summoning jutsu. Effectively, Isshiki has a single jutsu that’s a better version of everything Tenten can do.

With that out of the way, it’s time to make fun of Isshiki’s appearance and how he’s portrayed in this episode. I’m not a fan of Isshiki’s physical appearance, but I’m not going to make fun of him for that. It’s not cool to make fun of people for the way they were born. But his fashion sense is another matter entirely.

When Isshiki’s outfit simply isn’t very cool. All of the other Ōtsutsuki clan members wore more traditional Japanese outfits. And then we have Isshiki who looks like he’s trying to dress like yankii caricature. All he needs is a motorcycle, some cigarettes, and maybe a chain to use as a weapon.

And as soon as he summoned a glass of wine from his pocket dimension, I ceased taking him seriously. You’re telling me he poured a glass of wine then shrunk it down and put it in his pocket dimension just so he could pull it out later to look like some sort of Bond villain?

Naruto and Sasuke

As far as I can see, there are two major roadblocks standing in the way of the Boruto plot progressing. You may know these roadblocks by the names Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha. As long as those two are around in their current forms, I don’t think we can reach the scene of Boruto vs. Kawaki that was set up in Episode 1.

Something has to happen to both Naruto and Sasuke, and my guess is that it’s going to happen relatively soon. We’re about to get the second battle between Isshiki and the two strongest shinobi of the Leaf Village — can there really be a third?

Let me break down what I mean for anyone who doesn’t get it. We know that something has to happen to both Naruto and Sasuke by the time Boruto fights Kawaki. Kawaki says he sent Naruto somewhere and Boruto is using Sasuke’s headband, and more notably, his sword.

Okay, but just because Naruto and Sasuke have to be out of the picture by that point doesn’t mean it has to happen soon, right? I’m not so sure about that. I think Boruto and Kawaki have to be the ones to take down Isshiki for his defeat to feel satisfying.

Naruto and Sasuke aren’t the main characters anymore. It’s cool when they have big moments, but we need the actual main characters of the series to take down the big villain.

If Naruto and Sasuke defeat Isshiki here, even with Boruto’s help, how is that any different from Momoshiki’s defeat? Instead, they need to lose bad enough so that they can never fully recover.

As long as Naruto and Sasuke are at full strength, I don’t think Boruto and Kawaki will be able to shine. And, it makes it implausible that Kawaki could somehow defeat them later on.

Boruto’s Determination

If you’re looking for further evidence that something’s going to happen to Naruto and Sasuke soon, consider the exchange between Sasuke and Boruto before they go to face Isshiki. Sasuke states he and Naruto are fine with dying and even gives Boruto his headband again.

Those are some pretty major death flags, if you ask me. Though, I’m not really sure that either Naruto or Sasuke is going to die here. They might come close. For example, Naruto might have the Tailed Beasts extracted from him, and Sasuke might have his Rinnegan stolen.

Speaking of stealing Rinnegan, there’s been a surprising lack of characters attempting to steal the eyes of other characters in Boruto. That was kind of a major recurring event in Naruto: Shippūden.

Anyway, as soon as Sasuke threw his sword at Isshiki, I knew it was Boruto using the transformation jutsu. Sasuke would never disarm himself like that, we know Isshiki can’t shrink people, and disguising people as a thrown weapon is Sasuke’s favorite tactic.

Now that Boruto, Sasuke, Naruto, and Isshiki are in another dimension, I’m interested in seeing how Boruto is going to be involved in this fight. Clearly, he’s just going to get in the way if Naruto and Sasuke really go all out.

But, considering Isshiki’s abilities, I don’t think this is something they can do. Going all out for Naruto and Sasuke involves using a lot of chakra which Isshiki will just absorb or shrink. This leaves more traditional fighting techniques, which means there’s room potentially room for Boruto to get involved.

And, if Naruto and Sasuke are taken out here, we may see Kawaki show up to fight alongside Boruto. That makes the most sense to me rather than Kawaki waking up and staying in hiding.

    1. I can’t take him seriously like this. I don’t care how powerful he is. And, maybe summoning a bottle of wine and a wine glass would have been better. Summoning a glass already with wine in it means he poured it beforehand, which is just hilarious.
