Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Episode 260

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Episode 260

Old Town vs. New City

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Episode 260 is the Boruto version of Romeo and Juliet. It’s the tale of two young people who are in love but can’t be together because of a family feud. And what is this feud about? Fireworks, of course.

Every year in the Leaf Village, there used to be one fireworks display during the festival. The Old Town fireworks committee members were in charge of putting on this display. But, this year, there’s a second fireworks display happening. New City created a fireworks committee of its own and plans to have its display a week earlier.

There are two problems with this new development. First, the New City fireworks being a week earlier will ruin the hype for the Old Town fireworks. And second, the head of the New City fireworks committee use to be a member of the Old Town fireworks committee.

Ohagi of Old Town and Taruto of New City were friends until only recently. Their relationship extended beyond the Old Town fireworks committee, as well. Ohagi runs a dango shop and Taruto runs a cake shop. Together, they developed a dango cake product to benefit both businesses.

But, once the New City fireworks committee appointed Taruto, their relationship fell apart. Ohagi viewed Taruto as a traitor. And while Taruto tried to talk to Ohagi about it, this always led to the two of them arguing. Thus, the rivalry between Old Town and New City was born.

Boruto gets involved after learning of the engagement of Yubeshi and Sabure. Yubeshi is the granddaughter of Ohagi and Sabure is the grandson of Taruto. Unless the two old men learn to get along, their grandchildren won’t be able to have a happy wedding. I guess Boruto has nothing better to do.

Nobody Respects Kakashi

Something that was surprising to see was that nobody respected Kakashi Hatake. He’s the previous Hokage, and yet nobody seems to know who he is. Boruto knows who he is. But, even he asks Kakashi if he was really the Sixth Hokage because Boruto’s so unimpressed by him.

Let’s look at how other people besides Boruto treat Kakashi, though. First, Ohagi spills Kakashi’s tea on him and doesn’t apologize. Then, Yubeshi and Sabure don’t seem to recognize Kakashi despite his face being on Hokage Rock. And, generally, nobody else seems to realize Kakashi was the Hokage either.

What made this even more baffling is that Ohagi knows who the current Hokage is. He knows Boruto is the Hokage’s son. And he hears Boruto out because he wants to let the Hokage’s son save some face. But, despite all this, he doesn’t recognize the previous Hokage.

To be fair, of the seven Hokage in the history of the Leaf Village, Kakashi is likely the weakest. Hashirama was definitely stronger. Tobirama might be more comparable to Kakashi. Hiruzen was stronger. Minato might also be comparable to Kakashi and Tobirama. Tsunade is probably stronger as one of the Sanin. And Naruto is definitely stronger, too.

Most of Kakashi’s strength came from him having a Mangekyō Sharingan. But, by the time he became the Sixth Hokage, Kakashi no longer had his Sharingan. He was kind of a stand-in Hokage until Naruto was ready to take over the role.

Kakashi wasn’t the Hokage for very long. He wasn’t one of the strongest Hokage. And he was more of a stand-in for Naruto. But, that doesn’t change the fact that he’s a former Hokage who trained the current Hokage. You’d think the citizens of the Leaf Village would show him some respect.

Happily Ever After

In the end, Ohagi and Taruto make up and their grandchildren are able to get married. But, it wasn’t exactly their choice to make up. Kakashi forced their hands by playing a child-Naruto-like prank on them. At the last moment, he swapped the fireworks displays.

Those who didn’t work on the displays didn’t realize the swap occurred. The people from Old Town were making fun of the New City fireworks. And the people from New City were making fun of the Old Town fireworks. That is until the big reveal came at the end.

Kakashi specifically asked each fireworks committee to finish their display with a logo. The Old Town fireworks display would end with a dango design. And the New City display would end with a cake design. So, when it was time for the finale, everyone watching the fireworks found out they made fun of the wrong display.

What was the point of Kakashi’s trick, though? At first, it didn’t actually solve anything. All it did was make both old men mad. They were both sure that if they had a chance to redo their competition, they’d come out on top.

Surprise, surprise, the point Kakashi was making is one we’ve seen many times before. It feels like almost every week that I point out the major theme of the Boruto series. In case you forgot, it’s that technology isn’t inherently good or evil. And rather than replacing the old ways of doing things, it should compliment them.

If you’re wondering what that has to do with fireworks, look at the feud between the two parts of the Leaf Village. They make fun of each other for either living in the past or relying too much on technology. Kakashi stopped all that.

Conclusion
