KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! 3 Episode 10 Review

The All-Knowing Demon

KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! 3 Episode 10 wasn’t as funny as some of the previous episodes. And based on how this episode went, I don’t exactly have the highest hopes for the final episode of the season.

This wasn’t a recap episode by any means. But there was still quite a bit of recap content. Darkness thought back on her time with Kazuma, Aqua, and Megumin. And Vanir reminded us of events that happened in the earlier seasons. That took time that could have been used for jokes.

However, the main reason this episode wasn’t very funny was that it was more story-driven. Episode 9 set up this whole situation with Darkness, so Episode 10 had to follow through and start resolving things. Kazuma needed to know why Darkness’s family was in debt. And he needed to figure out a way to get her out of this marriage.

With that in mind, Vanir comes in almost as a Deus ex machina. He has all the answers and all the solutions. Why does he have that information? Because he’s an all-knowing demon. Technically, he could have been helping out this whole time.

I understand why Vanir wasn’t helping, though. It’s not like he’s friends with Kazuma and the others — especially Aqua. He’s Kazuma’s business partner and is only really interested when there’s a money-making opportunity. And, in his infinite wisdom, Vanir spotted a money-making opportunity right now.

He’ll gladly give Kazuma (most of) the money needed to pay off Darkness’s debt. But in exchange, he wants the exclusive rights to even more of Kazuma’s inventions. I think he even mentioned Kazuma’s future inventions. So, Kazuma could see no income from the stuff he creates going forward.

Dustiness Family Debt

Okay, so where did the Dustiness family’s debt come from? Since Darkness is marrying Lord Aldarp to repay this debt, we know he’s the one the debt is owed to. But why did they owe him money to begin with?

It turns out that the Dustiness family has been financially supporting Kazuma’s party for a while now. Well, sort of. They haven’t been covering the party’s expenses. But they’ve been covering the majority of the costs associated with the damage the party caused. And the party has caused a lot of damage.

Remember when Aqua flooded Axel, and the party was on the hook for the damage the flood caused? Well, they only had to pay a portion of the cost of repairs. At the time, I believe Luna (the guild girl) said that they wouldn’t have to pay the entire cost because they technically saved the town.

Well, now we know that wasn’t true. The reason they didn’t have to pay the entire cost was because the Dustiness family paid the rest. And the same thing happened after Kazuma’s party faced off against the Mobile Destroyer.

Yes, they saved the town from being destroyed. But, that led to the mobile destroyer decimating the rural areas around the town. And who paid for the crops and land that was destroyed? The Dustiness family. However, this time, they couldn’t pay for all the damages alone. They had to take out a loan from Lord Aldarp.

This now explains why Darkness really wanted to get the reward for defeating the hydra. She didn’t care about the hydra itself. She wanted the money so she could pay off the debt she owed to Lord Aldarp. And by recruiting the other adventurers, Kazuma diluted that reward.

Wedding Crashers

There were many ways the episode’s end could have gone. I wasn’t expecting the path it chose, and I’m not convinced it was the best option, but it’s what we got. Kazuma and Aqua infiltrated the wedding and caused a commotion.

Aqua disguised herself as a priestess of the Eris sect, while Kazuma disguised himself as some random Eris follower. Notably, we didn’t see Megumin anywhere. I assume she has a role to play in all of this. But we won’t find out what that role is until the final episode.

My guess is that she’ll show up and threaten to blow up the entire church. You know, your typical Megumin kind of stuff. Though, I suppose she’ll be in disguise, as well. There’s no way the guards would let her into the church otherwise — especially not after her previous threats that landed her in jail for three days.

There’s one other person present at the wedding I want to mention: The mohawk adventurer with the pink suspenders. He’s been a background character since the start of the series. We frequently see him in the adventurers guild, and when he does speak, it’s usually only a single line.

But, why is he attending the wedding? I didn’t see any other adventurers I recognized. And since this is a noble wedding, it’s unlikely that adventurers would receive invitations. So, why is he there? Who is this guy?

A lot of people have suspected over the years that he’s secretly the Demon King. I’ve always thought that was an interesting theory. But that wouldn’t explain how he got an invitation to this wedding. This implies that he’s a noble. And he might even be the king; we haven’t met him yet, right?

Final Thoughts

What do you think about KonoSuba 3 Episode 10? Did you think there was enough comedy, or was this episode too focused on the story? Do you think Darkness will ever be free from the allegations that she plays every night? And how are you expecting Megumin to make her entrance at the wedding?
