Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Part 2 Episode 20 Review

The Teleportation Labyrinth

While there was action in Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Part 2 Episode 20, the action wasn’t very exciting. Instead, at least to me, the exciting parts of this episode have to do with the world-building. The world-building has always been one of my favorite things about Mushoku Tensei.

So, what’s the best piece of world-building in this episode? It’s the introduction of the Teleportation Labyrinth. This is where Zenith is, and it’s not too far from the city of Rapan. How do we know Zenith is there, though? Until this episode, I didn’t really understand how Paul got this information.

Now we know that Zenith entered this labyrinth with a party of adventurers. So, she wasn’t teleported directly into the labyrinth by the mana storm. It teleported her nearby, and she eventually made her way into the labyrinth. Once in there, she got separated from the party and hasn’t been seen since.

First of all, we know this stuff happened thanks to Geese’s intelligence network. We can assume he got this information from people who spoke with other members of the party Zenith was with. But, why did Zenith go into the labyrinth?

My guess is she did so specifically because it’s known as the Teleportation Labyrinth. I think she was trying to find a way to teleport back home. Or, she was trying to learn more about teleportation magic so she could help locate others caught in the mana storm.

Also, remember how, in Episode 19, we learned that teleportation magic isn’t instantaneous? That’s probably going to become relevant within this labyrinth. Seven years have passed since the mana storm. But how long has passed for Zenith? It could be significantly less time, depending on how many teleportation circles she’s gone through.

The Greyrat Family Tree

The Greyrat family tree has become pretty complex, and I have a feeling that it’ll only get more complicated in the future. So, before that happens, I want to go over what we know about the family tree right now from Rudeus’s perspective.

To start with, Rudeus has his parents, Paul and Zenith. He also has a younger sister, Norn. Then, there’s Lilia, Paul’s effective second wife, and Rudeus’s pseudo-adoptive mother. With Lilia, Paul has another daughter, Aisha, who’s Rudeus’s half-sister.

Beyond his immediate family, Rudeus also has two cousins, that we know of. The first is Eris Boreas Greyrat. From what I remember, her father (Philip) is Paul’s cousin. That means Rudeus and Eris are second cousins because they share great-grandparents.

Rudeus’s other cousin, Luke Notos Greyrat, is his first cousin. They’re both members of the Notos line of the family, meaning they share grandparents. Luke’s father is Paul’s brother.

Now, Rudeus married Sylphie, which means the family tree is going to get a little more complicated. For example, Paul and Elinalise are now “related” by marriage, since Elinalise is Sylphie’s grandmother. Also, Sylphie is pregnant with Rudeus’s child. So, there’s going to be another generation of Greyrats soon.

On top of that, it seems pretty clear that Luke is going to end up marrying Princess Ariel. That alone doesn’t complicate things too much. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if Rudeus’s and Luke’s sides of the Notos line linked up again at some point. Their children or grandchildren ending up together doesn’t seem like a stretch.

Then, there’s the question of what’s going to happen with Eris. Even if she doesn’t become one of Rudeus’s wives (which I think she will), she may already have his child. It’s been a few years since they had sex.

New Party Member Acquired: Roxy Migurdia

When Rudeus meets up with Paul’s party, Roxy is nowhere to be seen. And he soon learns that Roxy got lost in the Labyrinth, much like Zenith. She stepped on a trap and got teleported somewhere else about a month ago.

Now, based on the OP for this season, we know that Roxy is okay and rejoins the party to save Zenith. But I expected her to be gone for longer than one episode. I didn’t think Rudeus would locate and rescue her so quickly.

Like, there wasn’t even any question about who the party should prioritize saving. I thought for sure that Paul or someone else would try to argue for Zenith being the priority. A bid of inter-party drama could have been interesting here, even if we already knew the outcome.

Of course, prioritizing Roxy was the right call. At this point, Rudeus is likely a more skilled mage than Roxy. But, that doesn’t mean the party doesn’t need her. What’s better than having one skilled mage in your party? Having two skilled mages in your party. By rescuing Roxy first, they only improve their chances of rescuing Zenith.

Moving on, when was the last time Rudeus and Roxy saw each other? Have they met since Rudeus was a child? I know they corresponded with each other via letter. But I can’t remember if they ever saw each other face-to-face after the mana storm.

Was Roxy there when Rudeus, Eris, and Ruijerd visited the Migurd’s village on the Demon Continent? I feel like she might have been. But, again, I can’t remember. Anyway, it’s been quite a while since those two have seen each other. I wonder how Roxy’s going to take the news that Rudeus is married.

Final Thoughts

What do you think of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 20? Do you think the time lag of teleportation is going to be relevant in the Teleportation Labyrinth? Who’s your favorite member of the Greyrat clan? And were you expecting Rudeus to find Roxy so quickly?

  1. roxy and rudy passed each other in the demon continent without realising. The last time they directly met was in the early episodes before rudy met eris.

    1. That’s what I thought. I remember Roxy saw Eris and Ruijerd training, but Rudy wasn’t with them at the time. I think he was getting his demon eye when that happened.
