Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 3 Episode 10 Review

Cliff’s One Wish

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 3 Episode 10 had me questioning the decisions Rudeus and his party members make. Some of these decisions I question more than others. And it’s Rudeus whose decisions I have to question the most.

So, let’s start with Cliff. After saving Demon Emperor Kishirika Kishirisu by giving her food, Cliff receives one wish in return. He could theoretically ask for anything here. But, since he wants to be helpful, he asks Kishirika how to cure Nanahoshi’s disease.

This is obviously the correct decision. After all, finding Kishirika and asking her for help with Nanahoshi’s condition is the whole reason why they’re on the Demon Continent.

And yet, I think there are potentially better things he could have asked. For example, he could have asked her to cure Nanahoshi. That may have led to Kishirika giving him the same response. Or it could have solved their problem even faster if she used magic.

Consider this. Kishirika gives Cliff one wish, and he asks if she knows how to cure Nanahoshi’s illness. Kishirika then replies that she does, and the wish is complete. That’s the kind of thing I’d expect from a magical being giving me a wish.

Cliff’s naivety here could have cost them their chance to cure Nanahoshi. He should have directly asked for her to be cured.

Also, he could have asked Kishirika to cure Elinalise’s curse. I don’t think Elinalise would have liked him doing that over asking for a cure for Nanahoshi. But I also wouldn’t blame him if he had done this.

Or, when the royal guards asked Rudeus to hand over Kishirika, he could have bargained with her for another wish. If they help her escape, she has to cure Elinalise as well. There were options here.

King Atoferatofe

Atofe isn’t quite the character I expected. In my review of Episode 9, I predicted that she would be a bro-con and that her reason for wanting to capture Kishirika was that she didn’t approve of her brother’s fiancée.

We now know that the reason she wanted to capture Kishirika was that Kishirika drank all of her booze. It’s not what I expected, but it’s a similarly petty reason. And in this episode, we also learn that Atofe is known for being a bit of a meathead. She’s extremely strong but easily rage-baited.

Now, here’s the part where I really have to question Rudeus’s decisions. Once again, why did he agree to hand over Kishirika to this Demon King, whom he’s already been told is bad news by Nokopara? Again, he should have sided with Kishirika in the hopes that she would grant him another wish.

But even once he was face-to-face with Atofe, why did he never name-drop Badigadi? Rudeus knows that Atofe is Badigadi’s older sister. He’s also friends with Badigadi and has no reason to believe Atofe and Badigadi are on bad terms. So what’s the harm in trying to use Badigadi’s name to diffuse the situation?

This goes back to Rudeus also not bringing Roxy along to the Demon Continent. He should really be using his connections to his advantage more.

If he had mentioned to Atofe that he was Badigadi’s friend, perhaps she would have let him and his party leave from the castle. Could that have backfired? Absolutely. But as I mentioned, he has no reason to think that it would.

Alternatively, he could have preempted Atofe’s proposed reward for helping to capture Kishirika by requesting that she let them leave as their reward. There’s no harm in trying.

That Felt Too Easy

Okay, so I know that the fight against Atofe and her guards wasn’t actually easy. Rudeus and his party could very well have been wiped out before making it back to the Flying Fortress.

But that doesn’t change the fact that the resolution to everything that happened was too easy.

In a single episode, they recovered the plant needed to cure Nanhoshi’s disease, escaped from Demon King Atofe, and seemingly obtained a second magic eye. Yes, another magic eye has likely hit the series.

Rudeus originally got his magic eye that lets him see into the future from his first run-in with Kishirika. And now, as Kishirika is leaving Rudeus and his party with a smile on her face, we see Cliff kneeling down and covering one of his eyes in the background.

Kishirika definitely gave him some kind of magic eye. We already know she likes doing that.

Anyway, I kind of expected Atofe to be a bigger problem for Rudeus and his allies. She’s featured on this season’s cover art almost as prominently as Perugius. So I assumed that we’d get at least a few episodes with her. But that doesn’t seem to be what’s going to happen.

I guess it’s possible that Atofe and her guards launch an attack on the Flying Fortress in the next few chapters. That would be a bad idea since Perugius is far stronger than she is. But at the same time, we know that Atofe isn’t the brightest demon on the continent.

I don’t know, it just feels to me like everything involving her was resolved too easily. But maybe that’s the point. Maybe we’ll see her again in the future, and this time, Perugius won’t be around to save the day.

Final Thoughts
