Mushoku Tensei Part 2 Episode 2

Mushoku Tensei Part 2 Episode 2

The Search for Paul’s Family

The first portion of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Part 2 Episode 2 covered the same timeframe as the first episode but from the perspective of Roxy Migurdia. We even got the same exact scene of Eris sparring with Ruijerd.

But, just because it covers the same timeframe doesn’t mean this part of the episode is a waste. We learn that the two people Roxy is traveling with are former members of The Fangs of the Black Wolf with Paul (Rudy’s father).

I’m pretty sure it was also stated in Part 1 that Zenith (Rudy’s mother) and Ghislaine (Eris’s bodyguard) used to be Paul’s adventuring allies as well. I don’t remember if they were stated to be members of The Fangs of the Black Wolf, but I would assume they were considering Elinalise and Talhand know Zenith — and Ghislaine seems strong enough to also have been in their party.

The elf Elinalise and the dwarf Talhand are the two who are helping Roxy search for Paul’s family right now. I feel like we saw them pair up with Roxy at the end of Part 1 after they showed up at Paul’s village.

We don’t really know much about Talhand aside from the fact that he’s a dwarf and he doesn’t mind traveling with Elinalise. That second part is important because Elinalise seems like she’s kind of a handful to travel with.

All Elinalise ever thinks about is sex. Sometimes this comes in handy because she can get information out of those she seduces. But for the most part, she just seems to be into domination roleplay — like being at the mercy of five demon men, much to Roxy’s horror.

Leaving the Demon Continent

Thanks to the shady guy Rudy and Ruijerd met at the end of the previous episode, they’re able to smuggle Ruijerd off the Demon Continent. However, there’s something I didn’t quite understand about this arrangement.

It was stated that the price of smuggling Ruijerd was the release of some “goods” which turned out to be beastkin children. But the first of the smugglers killed by Ruijerd looked a lot like the guy who offered to smuggle Ruijerd in the first place.

I’m assuming that either I mistook the smuggler for the other guy, or something was lost in translation. Otherwise, it doesn’t make sense that the price of smuggling Ruijerd is the release of other smuggled prisoners.

I haven’t actually gone back and listened to what was said, but I’m going to guess that the actual translation should have been that Rudy needs to help smuggle some goods, not free some goods. And once they found out that the goods were beastkin children, Ruijerd couldn’t go along with that plan anymore.

Either way, Ruijerd is smuggled to the Millis Continent and Rudy and Eris are able to get there the normal way — paying for passage. Unfortunately, but not unexpectedly, this means that Roxy and Rudy narrowly missed running into each other on the Demon Continent. We’ll just have to keep waiting for them to be reunited.

Also, Roxy did mention that Rudy is from the Fittoa region. It’s still unclear if this is a region of the Millis Continent or on another continent altogether. But although I said the Millis Continent seemed like the final stop on their journey last week, I’m no longer so sure about that.

It’s not as if the story would end with them returning home. However, it doesn’t really feel like they’re close to being home yet.

Rescuing the Beastkin

Of course, although I just said it doesn’t feel like they’re close to being home, there’s an argument to be made for the opposite being true. And this argument has everything to do with the beastkin children Rudy and Ruijerd rescued from the smuggler’s dungeon.

Where have we seen beastkin before? Most notably, they were present at Eris’s mansion. All of the maids who worked there were beastkin, as is Ghislaine, Eris’s personal bodyguard and combat instructor. Since we know there are many beastkin in Rudy and Eris’s homeland, it’s possible that’s where the beastkin who came to save the kids and captured Rudy are from.

What if the beastkin who captured Rudy bring him back to their city or base and Ghislaine is there? She would be able to vouch for Rudy’s innocence and update him on what happened since the mana storm event.

Of course, we don’t actually know if Ghislaine survived the mana storm event. We haven’t seen anything of her since it happened. But since beastkin have been reintroduced to the story, it’s possible we’ll see her once again. Or, perhaps it’s just Rudy’s knowledge of the beastkin language he got from Ghislaine which will help him get out of his current situation.

It could even be that some of the beastkin Rudy comes into contact with wherever his captors are taking him will recognize him from the Greyrat mansion. Obviously, Rudy’s previous connection to beastkin is going to come in handy in some way here.

I’m actually more interested in how Ruijerd is going to deal with the other beastkin who went after him and the children. Are the two of them going to be able to communicate? Is Ruijerd going to end up fighting him? Who knows?
