Mushoku Tensei Part 2 Episode 5

Mushoku Tensei Part 2 Episode 5

Millishion, Capital of the Holy Country of Millis

I have some mixed feelings about Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Part 2 Episode 5. On one hand, it had some good character development for Rudy, interesting plot progression, and exceptional Eris content.

But on the other, it had some extremely unnecessary ecchi content on Rudy’s part. I knew that side of Rudy wasn’t going to go away. But, this was probably the most overt case of it getting in the way of what would have otherwise been good content.

I don’t really have anything else to say about Rudy’s perverted behavior, though, so let’s move on. In this episode, the members of Dead End finally make their way to the Millis continent and the capital city of Millishion.

So, what do we know about Millis? We know it’s both a continent and a country. We know the name of its capital city. And we know that it’s a “holy” country. Oh, and I guess we know that the jobs there pay well.

Aside from those facts, we really know nothing about Millis. But, what’s interesting to me is that it doesn’t seem to be a corrupt county from what we’ve seen. Typically countries associated with churches end up being the bad guys in fantasy series.

This episode also confirmed that Millis is not the continent Rudy and Eris are from. I already mentioned that I had my doubts about that in my review of Episode 2. But now, it’s confirmed that they’re from another continent known as Asura.

I’m just guessing here, but might the fact that Rudy is from Asura be a reference to being reborn in the world of Ashuradō from Japanese Buddhism? That would be a neat little reference considering Rudy’s backstory.

Buena Village Rescue Party

I’m going to assume that we were given the name of Buena Village before. But in case we weren’t, now we know the village Rudy is from is called Buena Village. I guess it’s just named after the Spanish word for “good” because it’s a good village.

I’m not really all that interested in the name of Rudy’s village, though. We didn’t exactly see much of the village aside from Rudy’s house when we were there. So as far as we know, there’s no significance to it.

However, Rudy learns from Paul that the village was caught up in the mana disaster that transported Rudy to the Demon Continent along with Eris. This means that Rudy’s family — and everyone else from that region — has been scattered around the globe.

Paul Greyrat and a female adventurer

Paul formed a search party along with many other adventurers in order to track down and rescue all of the Buena villagers. To be honest, I’m a bit surprised that Paul was the one to organize this considering his character.

But, his reason for doing so may have been because he managed to stay with one of his daughters, Norn. I think if Paul didn’t have Norn with him, he probably would have given up hope much earlier and wouldn’t be doing everything he is now.

Speaking of Norn, it’s been 1.5 years since she was a literal baby. I’m not sure how she’s now like 4-5 years old. I guess there was some time between Rudy last seeing her and the disaster happening. But was it really multiple years?

Anyway, back to Paul, he’s still a trash person even if he’s trying to rescue all of the villagers. I get that he had higher expectations of Rudy, but come on. Rudy really didn’t do anything wrong. He protected Eris and has been working to get her home safely.

There’s also no reason for him to have assumed that Buena Village was caught up in the disaster.

Eris Continues to Cement Herself as Best Girl

It’s time for the Eris appreciation portion of this review. Right from the start of the episode, we got great Eris content, with her asking Geese to teach her how to cook next time and becoming shy when asked why she wants to learn. Cute!

Then, once the members of Dead End acquired lodging within the city of Millishion, she was extremely excited to clap during Rudy’s party meeting. I would do literally anything to make Eris smile like that.

Of course, there were other classic Eris moments within the episode, which I like just as much. For example, it’s hard not to be impressed by her confidence when it comes to slaying goblins on her own. Or the fact that she was straight up ready to fight Paul when she learned he made Rudy sad.

I know Rudy kind of made Paul look like a clown when the two of them fought in this episode. But we have to remember that Paul used to be an S-class adventurer. It’s not like he’s weak.

As much as I loved all of those Eris moments within this episode, the best part came right at the end. When Eris attempted to comfort Rudy at Ruijerd’s suggestion, I think her true character was highlighted.

Although she seems happy and carefree most of the time, we know that something Eris is worried about is what she can do for others. Eris doesn’t want to be seen as a burden. And when she doesn’t know how to comfort Rudy, we see this play out.

She’s unsure of what to do, but in the end she simply gives him a hug and apologizes for not being able to anything more for him. This is who Eris really is.

Conclusion
