My Hero Academia Season 7 Episode 147 Review

My Hero Academia Season 7 Episode 147 Review

Everyone’s Proud of Shouto

My Hero Academia Season 7 Episode 147 wasn’t a terrible episode. It was much better than Episode 146. But that doesn’t mean it was all that good, either. The first third, or maybe even more of the episode, was all about everyone being proud of Shouto.

As we saw last week, Shouto defeated Dabi. That was the first major win of this battle for the heroes. So, naturally, all the heroes are pumped up when they learn the news. But did we need to jump from battlefield to battlefield to see everyone’s reaction?

Again, it wasn’t necessarily bad. However, as I’ve said many times before, I don’t like the student characters in this series. I don’t even know the names of at least half of the student characters, and we’re seven seasons in. For example, there’s tail guy. I have no idea what his name is, and I don’t care that he’s proud of Shouto.

Remember when we were told that “there are no side characters here” in Episode 144? Yeah, try telling me tail guy, animal summoning guy, or six-arm guy isn’t a side character. The best argument for them not being side characters is that they’re background characters.

And in case you didn’t notice, the title of this week’s episode is “Extras.” Who do you think that title’s referring to? It’s referring to all the random characters. Okay, they’re not side characters; they’re extras. That makes a huge difference.

Anyway, the only “important” thing to come out of this part of the episode is that we know some villains are trying to free Gigantomachia. Since there were no villains whose names we know there, it seems unlikely that they’ll succeed. But there’s always a chance that Gigantomachia will go on another rampage.

Was I Wrong About Spinner?

Let’s talk about Spinner since I think what happened to him is the most interesting thing to happen in Episode 147. Spinner has never been all that powerful among the villains. He’s a heteromorph, which pretty much just means his quirk makes him part lizard.

However, unlike Froppy who does “frog things,” we’ve never really seen Spinner do “lizard things.” His quirk primarily has to do with his appearance. It’s not an offensive quirk like Dabi’s or Shigaraki’s. And it’s not even a support quirk like Himiko’s. His quirk just exists.

In this episode, All For One gives him a second quirk. We don’t know exactly what this quirk is, but it made Spinner much larger and physically stronger. He’s now a threat on the battlefield. But this also goes against one of my earlier predictions about his character.

I’ve been saying for a long time that I think Himiko will join the heroes at some point. She’s still a villain and will have to pay for her crimes. But I’m pretty convinced that she’ll join the heroes to save Shigaraki from All For One. And in my review of Episode 143, I said the same thing about Spinner.

Up until this point, Spinner hasn’t been a villain villain. He wants to be like the anti-hero Stain. So, there’s room for redemption there. But that room for redemption is shrinking. He seems to be following All For One more and more.

Now that All For One gave him this berserk quirk, will Spinner turn against him? All For One finally gave Spinner the power he needed to make a difference. And since this power turned Spinner into a real threat, the heroes need to take him down. He may not have time to swap sides.

Background Characters Vs. All For One

Who’s more dangerous, All For One or Shigaraki? At this point, I’d say Shigaraki. And I think the heroes agree with me on that. I’m pretty sure in the previous episode, someone (All Might?) said that Shigaraki is stronger than All For One ever was.

However, the top two pro heroes are fighting All For One, not Shigaraki. Why is this the case if Shigaraki’s the bigger threat? It all comes down to what makes All For One dangerous. Yes, Endeavor would be an excellent opponent for Shigaraki. But he’s a far better opponent for All For One than most other heroes.

And, maybe surprisingly, Endeavor and Hawks don’t have a good matchup against All For One because of their quirks. They have a good matchup because of their experience. These are two of the most experienced heroes who have reached the maximum potential of their respective quirks.

Okay, so what makes All For One dangerous? It’s his ability to steal quirks. If you throw a bunch of weak heroes at All For One, what’s he going to do? He’s going to take all of their quirks, thus making himself even stronger.

For this reason, the best way to fight him is to have as few heroes as possible but make sure they’re heroes who can avoid his attacks. And this is why I don’t think Tokoyami and Jirou should have gotten involved in the fight. They’re there to support Endeavor and Hawks. But they aren’t ready to face All For One.

Sure, they saved Hawks right when they showed up. However, by sticking around, they made his job harder. Now, he not only has to fight All For One, but he has to protect them, as well. This is the exact opposite of what Hawks wanted.

Final Thoughts

What do you think of My Hero Academia Season 7 Episode 147? Do you remember all of the names of the Class 1-A students? Do you think Spinner still has a shot at redemption? And how do you feel about Tokoyami and Jirou joining the fight against All For One?
