Spy x Family Episode 8

Spy x Family Episode 8

The Counter-Intelligence Agency

Spy x Family Episode 8 finally introduces Yuri Briar as a character. Yuri is Yor’s younger brother. And, as far as I can remember, this is the first episode in which he’s actually shown. We only got his voice before, when Yor was talking to him on the phone.

Maybe I’m wrong about that. If I am, correct me in the comments. But, in any event, Yuri’s a real character now. So, it’s time to discuss him, starting with what we already knew about him.

Before this episode, we knew that Yuri worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We also knew that he looked up to his sister and didn’t want her to worry about him. But, other than that, he was a mystery.

We now know why Yuri was so mysterious. Just like Loid, Yor, and even Anya, Yuri has a secret his family doesn’t know about.

At one point, Yuri did work for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. But he’s since joined the Counter-Intelligence Agency (CIA). This government department is in charge of locating and capturing enemy spies. And, of course, that includes Twilight, also known as Loid Forger.

Yuri being a member of the CIA is a big deal. It means that he gets to be the character always on the verge of discovering Loid’s identity. And that means that Yor doesn’t have to be that character. Since she’s an assassin, that very well could have been the case. But now it seems less likely.

Also, since Yuri is working for the government, I guess that confirms that Yor isn’t. We still don’t know who Yor’s employer is. For now, though, I’m going to assume she’s a freelance assassin. And that also works with her not finding out Loid’s identity.

Learning Fractions with Bullets

At the very start of the episode, we learn that Loid’s superiors have high expectations for Anya. They expect her to earn 8 Stella Stars within 4 months. Loid thinks it’s more likely that she’ll earn 8 Tonitrus Bolts within that time.

Anya isn’t a model student. Right at the start of the year, she punched Damian and earned a Tonitrus Bolt. And as we saw this week, she thought 5/6 – 2/3 = 3/3. It doesn’t look like she’s going to be earning any Stella Stars soon.

Or, at least it didn’t until Loid figured out a better way to teach Anya. She was able to figure out and express that Bondman had 2/8 bullets remaining at the end of an episode. So, all Loid has to do is teach Anya by using examples that include Bondman.

Loid might not even need to include Bondman in his examples. As long as there’s something to do with spies, Anya will pay attention. And if there’s anything Loid knows about, it’s spies. He just needs to use examples from his previous missions.

I’m not sure if Yor would be able to help teach Anya, though. I don’t doubt that Anya would enjoy her assassin examples to an extent. But, I also think it wouldn’t take much for those examples to get a bit too scary for Anya. Also, Yor doesn’t seem to be the brightest herself.

Now, just because Loid’s figured out a way to teach Anya doesn’t mean it will go as planned. Anya may learn the material. But, she also may bring up certain topics used to learn said material while at school. How will her teachers like her associating fractions with remaining bullets?

A Loving Couple

After Loid and Yor get embarrassed when their hands touch, Yuri becomes suspicious. Not only did Yuri not know his sister got married a year ago, but now she isn’t even acting like part of a married couple.

Yuri decides that the only way he’ll believe Loid and Yor are actually married is if they kiss in front of him. Loid, ever the professional, is willing to kiss Yor since his mission depends on it. But, Yor is a bit flustered by the idea. And by the end of the episode, we don’t get to see how their kiss plays out.

Of course, since we don’t know what happens next, that means I get to theorize. And theorize, I will. My bet is that Loid and Yor aren’t going to kiss in front of Yuri. But, not because one of both of them chickens out.

Unbeknownst to Yuri, there’s a wildcard residing within the Forger household. Although Loid mentioned having a daughter, Yuri hasn’t actually met Anya yet. He might not even have picked up on Loid mentioning her. Or, he might not realize that she’s home and sleeping in another room.

If Anya wakes up, what will happen? I don’t know. But, I’m betting on her interrupting Loid and Yor before they have a chance to kiss. And, who knows, she might refer to Yor as “Mama,” which could serve as proof to Yuri that Loid and Yor are actually married.

With that said, it wouldn’t surprise me if Loid and Yor kissed later on in next week’s episode. Not in front of Yuri, but when it’s just the two of them. They could even “justify” it by saying they need to practice for next time.

Conclusion

What do you think of Spy x Family Episode 8? Will Yuri or Yor find out Loid’s identity first? Do you think Anya will get all 8 Stella Stars within 4 months? And do you expect Loid and Yor to kiss in front of Yuri? Let me know in the comments.
