Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World Specials

Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World Specials

Bed Time with Roxanne

Fans of Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World will be happy to know some new content dropped at the end of 2022. That’s right, we got two special episodes. And I’ll just answer the big question upfront, yes, it’s hentai.

In my review of the main series, I probably said something like, “It would be better if it was a hentai.” Well, it’s possible that I didn’t because somehow I actually enjoyed the other parts of the series, too. But, if you thought the series would be better if it cut out everything but the sex scenes, these specials are for you.

Each episode is only 4 minutes long, which I’m sure is long enough for anyone reading this. And the first episode is all about spending some quality time in bed with Roxanne. We get to see Roxanne learn to be honest about her desires.

Roxanne blushing

Alright, so I said these specials were hentai. But, that’s not entirely true. Unlike in hentai, you’re not going to see anything below the waist here. These episodes are pretty similar to the uncensored sex scenes in the main series. However, they do focus on Roxanne’s chest a lot more.

It was hard to get screenshots to use in this review that didn’t expose Roxanne’s chest. Sure, there was a lot of that in the main series, as well. But, it felt like these specials somehow focused on her body even more. And, there’s some other explicit stuff, like when Michio shows off his fingers.

If you know, you know.

Still, this first special episode was what you’d expect from Isekai Meikyuu de Harem wo. It’s Michio and Roxanne doing what they do with their free time outside of the labyrinth. I don’t know how you could expect anything else.

Bath Time with Roxanne

The second special episode is the one I think is better. In this episode, Roxanne and Michio take a bath together. That’s something we saw multiple times in the main series. But, I’m not going to complain about more of this kind of content.

This episode is also split into two halves. In the first half of the episode, Michio “washes” Roxanne. And in the second half of the episode, Roxanne “washes” Michio. That might not sound like much of a difference. But, it does keep the episode from getting stale by being a bit more dynamic.

Something I thought was funny in this episode was the focus on soap. I remember in the main series it was a big deal when Michio “invented” soap. But, they treat soap like a precious resource in this episode. And it’s funny to think of people actually making these comments “in the moment.”

Roxanne being washed by Michio from the Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World anime specials
Roxanne being washed by Michio

So, what do I mean when I say there was a focus on soap? Well, in the middle of being washed by Michio, Roxanne stops the action to say that some soap fell off her and into the tub. I guess that was important information she needed to relay to Michio.

And even after they’re done washing each other, the soap talk doesn’t stop. Forget all the activities they just engaged in. Based on how they talk about soap, that’s what makes bath time enjoyable. I really need to get my hands on whatever soap they’re using.

But, there’s something that not even Michio’s magic soap can fix. These two special episodes were all about Roxanne. I know she’s the main girl of the series and most of the main anime had her as the only girl. But, where are the rest of the girls?

Needed More Sherry, Miria, Vesta, and Rutina

I like Roxanne. She’s a good main girl. But, that doesn’t mean all I want to see is Roxanne. There are four other girls in Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World. And yet, none of them appeared in these special episodes.

They say variety is the spice of life. So, why not mix things up and not focus solely on Roxanne? What I would have rather seen is an episode dedicated to each of the main girls. The episodes are only 4 minutes long, so why not have five of them?

Now, I have to admit that variety isn’t the only reason I wanted to see the other girls in these specials. It’s also because Roxanne doesn’t have my ideal body type. I mean, she’s better than Vesta. But, I was really hoping to see some Sherry, Miria, and Rutina content.

Roxanne washing Michio from the Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World anime specials
Roxanne washing Michio

And, there’s one more reason. As I mentioned, Roxanne was the only girl in the majority of the main series. Sherry only showed up at the end. And the other three girls were only in the final few minutes of the last episode. That’s the biggest reason why I wanted to see them in the specials.

I’m not really expecting there to be a second season of Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World. The way the first season ended felt like an advertisement for the light novels. It was like, “Look at all these other girls you’re missing out on.”

So, the specials could have been another way to give those girls screen time. I would even have accepted if the second episode was split between the other four girls. At least they’d each get a minute of extra screen time.

Conclusion

As with the main series, I gave the Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World Specials a 7/10. That’s also higher than the average rating of the specials on MyAnimeList. And, coincidentally, the specials have the same average rating as the main series, 6.57/10.

A Bad Concept That Somehow Worked

Life with an Ordinary Guy who Reincarnated into a Total Fantasy Knockout (Fantasy Bishoujo Juniku Ojisan to / 異世界美少女受肉おじさんと) is an anime that exists. It’s also called Fabiniku, for short.

Yes, it’s yet another isekai. And yes, it has a twist that sets it apart from the countless other isekai series out there.

Of course, as is tradition, the twist is spelled out right in the title. In this anime, an ordinary guy gets reincarnated into a total fantasy knockout. That means he reincarnated into a fantasy world as a cute girl.

But, there’s a second part of the twist, which is what actually makes this series unique. Notice the “Life with” part at the start of the title. In Fabiniku there are actually two guys who get reincarnated, but only one becomes a cute girl.

Two guy friends, Hinata and Tsukasa, find themselves reincarnated in a fantasy world. But, while Tsukasa retained his normal appearance, Hinata is now in the body of his ideal girl. That doesn’t sound so bad. However, the two soon realize that they might actually be attracted to each other.

To save their friendship from going down a path of no return, the pair set out to defeat the demon lord. You know, because of course there’s a demon lord in this random fantasy world.

But, how did Hinata and Tsukasa come to be in this world? The Goddess of Love and Beauty decided it was Hinata’s time to die (and be reborn). And Tsukasa happened to get dragged along with him into the other world.

It’s this goddess who tells the pair to defeat the demon lord. But, she never actually said doing so would return them to their old lives.

Main & Supporting Characters

Hinata Tachibana is one of the two main characters. Originally, he was an average guy who never stood out much. But, now that he’s a cute girl in a fantasy world, he’s the star. In this world, Hinata has very low stats. But, she has a powerful charm ability that makes her irresistible.

Tsukasa Jinguuji is the other main character. He’s Hinata’s childhood friend. But, unlike Hinata, he always excelled at everything he did. Academia, sports, attracting women — Tsukasa could do it all. Though, he never showed any interest in women until Hinata’s gender swap happened.

Schwartz von Liechtenstein Lohengramm is literally Kirito from Sword Art Online. He’s another person who reincarnated into the fantasy world. But, rather than the Goddess of Love and Beauty reincarnating him, it was the Goddess of Night. Schwartz’s character design is the same as Kirito’s, he has a cursed sword, and he’s cringey.

Tilolilo Lilili Lou from the anime series Life with an Ordinary Guy who Reincarnated into a Total Fantasy Knockout
Tilolilo Lilili Lou

Personally, I don’t find Hinata to be that cute. Instead, I’m much more of a fan of Tilolilo Lilili Lou, the chieftain of the Elves. I actually didn’t realize that was her name until writing this review. But, she’s a petite, green-haired elf-girl like High Elf Archer and Ryuu Lion.

Another girl cuter than Hinata is Muria. She’s some sort of attendant to the king. What she does isn’t that important. Instead, what’s important is that she has twin tails. Oh, and she gets tied up a few times, which gives her bonus points in my book.

Yugrain is the last character I’ll mention. She’s the princess of the kingdom — and is also cuter than Hinata. When we first meet her, she’s about to end it all by jumping from a window in the castle. But, she decides to keep on living and start a coup instead.

It’s Generic, But I Want More

If you couldn’t tell, Fabiniku is a comedy series. And, in a lot of instances, I didn’t think the comedy was that great. Hinata charming guys and the romantic tension between the main characters didn’t do it for me. On top of that, it’s very generic from an isekai standpoint.

But, I still enjoyed the series and would definitely watch a second season if it ever gets one. When I first started the anime, I didn’t expect I’d be writing this now. However, there were quite a few times that Fabiniku made me laugh.

I’m going to spoil one of my favorite jokes, so you can skip on down to the end of the review if you want to go in blind.

When our heroes were visiting the church of the Goddess of Love and Beauty, Tsukasa has some concerns. Based on how the goddess acted, he thought the church was going to be some pool party/sex palace.

Muria from the anime series Life with an Ordinary Guy who Reincarnated into a Total Fantasy Knockout
Muria

Hinata and Tsukasa then meet a sister of the church and realize she seems normal and pious. So, of course, they’re relieved. But, it then becomes clear that everything isn’t as it seems. And in the end, the big reveal is that the church is exactly what Tsukasa feared it would be.

If you’ve seen KonoSuba, this church is similar to the Axis Cult that worships Aqua. So, even this joke wasn’t very original. But, it was different enough from what we got in KonoSuba to still be funny.

At the end of the season, there’s a clear setup for future seasons. After all, Hinata and Tsukasa didn’t get any closer to defeating the demon lord. But, they now know where the demon lord is located. So, that’s a start. Hopefully, we get another season.

Conclusion

I ended up rating Life with an Ordinary Guy who Reincarnated into a Total Fantasy Knockout as a 7/10. It’s a good anime, even if it’s a bit generic. My main complaint is that the supporting characters I liked didn’t get enough screen time. I would have liked to see the elf, in particular, join Hinata and Tsukasa’s party.

Urusei Yatsura (2022)

Urusei Yatsura (2022)

Urusei Yatsura (2022) anime series cover art
Urusei Yatsura (2022)

41 Years Later

Urusei Yatsura (2022) is a remake of the original Urusei Yatsura (うる星やつら) anime from 1981. However, it’s not as if it’s a 1-to-1 copy. The 2022 version of the series is only the first of two seasons, with the second season coming sometime in 2024.

Additionally, while the original series had 195 episodes, the remake is only going to have 46. The 2022 series contains the first 23 episodes. I had planned to watch the original Urusei Yatsura series at some point. But, now that we have this remake, I think I can skip the old series.

I get that there’s going to be a lot of content cut out when you’re going from 195 to 46 episodes. But, I can’t say I was really looking forward to watching all those episodes, in the first place. Also, as I’ll get to later on in this review, this isn’t a series I want to watch that many episodes of.

Lum from the anime series Urusei Yatsura (2022)
Lum

If you’re somehow unfamiliar with Urusei Yatsura, allow me to explain what it’s all about. An alien girl, Lum, comes to Earth and ends up engaged to a human boy, Ataru, due to a misunderstanding. Then, hijinks ensue. That’s it.

If that synopsis sounds familiar, it may be because you’ve watched To LOVE-Ru. In a lot of ways, To LOVE-Ru is an ecchi version of Urusei Yatsura. Both series have harems. Both have a main heroine who’s an alien with crazy gadgets. And both have a protagonist who accidentally becomes engaged to that alien.

Once you’ve seen both series, you’ll notice even more similarities. Almost everything in To LOVE-Ru is a reference to Urusei Yatsura. For example, Ran is a girl with two distinct personalities in Urusei Yatsura. And Run is a girl who can swap genders in To LOVE-Ru.

Main Characters

Ataru Moroboshi is the protagonist of the series. He’s a high schooler who can’t seem to stop himself from hitting on every girl and woman he sees. Despite this, he’s still somewhat loyal to his childhood crush, Shinobu. Oh, and he’s also an idiot.

Lum, sometimes called the Invader or Lum Invader, is the female lead of the series. She’s obsessed with Ataru and doesn’t like when he flirts with other girls. Lum is the princess of the Oni alien race. And as an alien, she can both fly and generate electric shocks.

Shinobu Miyake is Ataru’s childhood friend and crush. At first, she seemed to like Ataru, as well. But, she gives up on him once he becomes engaged to Lum. Of all the characters in the series, Shinobu is the most normal. Not only is she human, but she’s a normal human without any strange quirks.

Ran pointing angrily from the anime series Urusei Yatsura (2022)
Ran pointing angrily

Shuutarou Mendou is one of Ataru’s classmates. Although Mendou is a human, he’s not normal. Mendou comes from an extremely wealthy family, which makes him out of touch with reality. Like Ataru — or any boy his age — Mendou is interested in women. But, Lum is his primary crush.

Ran is an alien and childhood friend of Lum. Earlier, I said she has two distinct personalities. What I meant by that is that Ran is either very nice and sweet, or she’s enraged. There’s no in-between. And how she acts has to do with who she’s interacting with.

And I guess the last character I’ll mention is Jariten, who goes by Ten. Ten is Lum’s younger cousin. And by younger, I mean he’s a toddler. But, since Ten is also an alien, he crawls through the air instead of on the ground. He can also breathe fire.

A Good Series to Reference, Not Remake

Urusei Yatsura is one of those classic anime that gets referenced a lot by other series. Typically, these references come in the form of female characters wearing Lum’s outfit. Takagi-san has done this, as has My Sister, My Writer. And those are far from the only two.

Because Urusei Yatsura is such an iconic series, it makes sense for it to be referenced so often. And I like seeing references to it and other classics. But, that doesn’t mean I think Urusei Yatsura is a series that needed a remake.

There are a few anime that have received remakes, reboots, or reimaginings recently. One example is how Megalo Box was a spiritual successor to Ashita no Joe for its 50th anniversary. And I thought Megalo Box was a good anime. It works for a modern audience.

Kurama dragging Mendou away from the anime series Urusei Yatsura (2022)
Kurama dragging Mendou away

Urusei Yatsura (2022) is a remake, not a reimagining. And that’s a problem because it doesn’t change anything to make it work for a modern audience. It uses the same gags that the original did back in the early 80s. And, gags that may have been comical in the early 80s just aren’t anymore.

Another issue is the “plot” and structure of the series. It’s not a slice of life anime. But, that also doesn’t mean it has a plot. Instead, it’s a very episodic series, which can get pretty boring. Without a real plot or good comedy, it’s almost as if most of the content of the series is filler.

If this remake was 12 instead of 46 and only included the best/most important episodes, it could have been good. But, as it is now, it’s too long for how boring most of it is. Instead of this, invest your time into watching a better series like To LOVE-Ru.

Conclusion

In the end, I gave Urusei Yatsura (2022) a 5/10, which is much lower than its average score. I feel like people might be rating this series higher because it’s a remake of a classic. But, while it does look nice visually, there’s not much going on besides that.

Oh, but something this series does have going for it are the OPs and EDs. They’re all good. However, my favorite is ED 1.

Dr. Stone: Ryusui

Dr. Stone: Ryusui

Manifest Destiny

Dr. Stone: Ryusui (Dr. Stone: Ryuusui / Dr.STONE 龍水) is a special episode that takes place between Seasons 2 and 3. Dr. Stone: Stone Wars is Season 2 and Dr. Stone: New World is Season 3. Ryusui is also canon, which means you should watch it before Season 3.

And, that’s exactly why I watched it this week. I originally planned to skip this special because I figured it wouldn’t matter. But, since it’s canon, I figured I should watch it since I’m going to be watching Season 3 as it airs.

Well, I plan to watch Season 3 as it airs. But, because I put off watching Ryusui, I’m a week behind now. Still, it’s not hard to catch up on a single episode. And since I’m not reviewing the newest season of Dr. Stone on a weekly basis, there’s no pressure.

You Uei plotting to become king from the Dr. Stone: Ryusui anime special
You Uei plotting to become king

As for the plot of Ryusui, it sets up the next hurdle for the Kingdom of Science to get over. Previously, we saw the Kingdom of Science forge an alliance with the Tsukasa Empire. Now, the two groups are working together to get to the bottom of the mystery of the petrification event.

All they know right now is that the event started somewhere on the other side of the world. That, and the fact that the next season is called “New World” implies it came from the Americas. But, how is the Kingdom of Science supposed to get there from Japan?

The answer is simple: they’re going to sail. Sailing is the easiest way to cross the ocean with the Kingdom’s current level of technology. But, crossing an entire ocean is no small feat. To do this, they’ll not only need a sturdy ship, but an experienced captain.

Ryusui Nanami

Unfortunately for the Kingdom of Science, they don’t have an experienced captain. But, fortunately for them, they do have a former reporter with a superpower. She can find anyone with any skill the Kingdom requires. And she knows just the person to revive as the new captain.

The man chosen for the job is Ryusui Nanami. He’s the son of a wealthy businessman who owned a variety of companies in Japan. And, as a hobby, he sailed ships. No, not boats. Ships. And, this is what made him the perfect candidate.

Sure, they could have revived an experienced captain. But, they’d likely only be experienced with modern ships. What the Kingdom of Science needs is someone experienced with sailing ships. And throughout this special episode, Ryusui proves himself to be just that. He’s a master of reading the wind, which will be a vital skill.

Ryusui wearing his captain's hat from the Dr. Stone: Ryusui anime special
Ryusui wearing his captain’s hat

There’s a major problem with Ryusui, though. Due to his upbringing, his personality isn’t great. He’s materialistic, obsessed with money, and thinks of himself as being above others. Ryusui is also a ruthless businessman. However, that doesn’t mean he has the brains to back that up, as Senku can still control him.

For example, one of the first things Ryusui does is negotiate his price for being the captain. The ship is going to be a hybrid that uses sails as well as an engine. And to power the engine, the Kingdom needs oil. As compensation for his services, Ryusui wants ownership of the oil.

He then plans to sell the oil to the Kingdom of Science. And to facilitate this sale, he prints his own money. That’s right, Ryusui created the first economy of the new age. But, Senku is able to turn this economy to his advantage.

First Flight

While some members of the Kingdom work on building the ship, others need to find oil. That doesn’t sound very easy, to me. And due to the landscape changes over the past 3,000 years, it’s more difficult than Senku thought it would be.

Without an accurate map of the terrain, it’s going to be hard to find oil. But, walking around on foot and making a map the old-fashioned way would take too long. So, the solution Senku comes up with, thanks to Suika’s comment, is to fly. It’ll be much easier to draw a map when you can look down on the terrain.

At this stage, powered flight is out of the question. From what I remember, they do have access to batteries. So, you may think they could build an electric aircraft. But, the batteries they have are large, heavy, and not very good at storing energy.

Senku flying with man-made wings from the Dr. Stone: Ryusui anime special
Senku flying with man-made wings

So, Senku decides to create a hot air balloon out of hemp. Hot air balloons are among the simplest ways to fly. Though, they’re not very good when it comes to controlling where you’re flying. But, luckily, as I mentioned earlier, Ryusui is an expert at reading the wind.

He, Senku, and Chrome hop in the balloon’s basket for its maiden voyage. And their destination is Ishigami Village, which would be a 2-day trek. By air, the travel time is only about 2 hours. However, not everything goes as planned during this trip (of course).

The trio runs into a thunderstorm and the balloon gets damaged by an earlier run-in with a bird. But, Ryusui is still able to navigate them out of the storm and to safety. Something I noticed, though, is that after the storm, the damage is miraculously gone. My immersion, ruined.

Conclusion

As much as I don’t want to admit it, I thought Dr. Stone: Ryusui was pretty good. I gave both previous seasons of the series 5/10 ratings. But, at the end of this special, I rated it a 7/10. Don’t expect my rating of New World to remain that high, though.

My Hero Academia Season 6

My Hero Academia Season 6

Heroes vs. Villains

My Hero Academia Season 6 (Boku no Hero Academia 6th Season / 僕のヒーローアカデミア) is the best season so far. There was a lot of action and hardly any slice of life content revolving around the students.

In the first half of the season, we get to watch the heroes undertake 2 simultaneous raids. Half of the heroes raid a lab connected to the League of Villains. And the other half of the heroes raid the Paranormal Liberation Front’s headquarters. And when I say “half of the heroes” I mean like half of all heroes in Japan.

There were a lot of heroes involved in these raids. The hero students were also involved. But, what I was way more interested in were the pro heroes. As I’ve said many times, I don’t care about the students.

Heroes preparing to attack the Paranormal Liberation Front’s headquarters

I should also point out that these raids weren’t like most fights in the series. We didn’t see the heroes arrest the bad guys after a hard-fought battle. Both sides had casualties. Not every hero made it out of the raids unscathed or with their lives. And the same is true for the villains.

My favorite part of this portion of the season, though, had to be Mirko’s fight at the start. I don’t remember what episode it was. But it was somewhere in the first few episodes. Mirko definitely got her time to shine. It may have even been the best part of the whole season.

We also got some good Midnight and Mt. Lady content. Basically, this was a good arc for the most popular female heroes. I’m a huge Mt. Lady fan, so it was great seeing her play a major role. Oh, and my boy Rock Lock showed up, too.

One for All’s Final Form

The second half of the season is very different from the first. It’s no longer about massive battles between every hero and villain. Instead, it follows Deku as he goes solo and uses the full breadth of One for All’s abilities.

I don’t like Deku as a protagonist. But, this part of the season was still good. Deku is a lot more interesting once he’s using a variety of quirks rather than just his power storage quirk. Fights are much more dynamic when the solution isn’t simply punching the enemy hard.

And the best fight Deku has in this season comes when he faces off against Lady Nagant. Lady Nagant is a former hero-turned-villain who broke out of Tartarus. Well, she didn’t break out of Tartarus. All for One and Shigaraki broke her out of Tartarus along with every other villain there.

Tokoyami, Deku, and Sero returning to U.A. from the anime series My Hero Academia Season 6
Tokoyami, Deku, and Sero returning to U.A.

Something else that was cool about this arc was seeing how All for One was able to manipulate the heroes. I went over this in more detail in some of my episode reviews. But, basically, All for One was able to turn the civilians against the heroes.

And, the best part is that he didn’t even have to show himself to do it. He had everyone else do the work for him. By releasing all the villains from Tartarus, he caused chaos. And the civilians couldn’t rely on the heroes to keep up with the influx of villains.

Also, by remaining quiet and out of the spotlight, he let the civilians assume the worst. Everyone knows All for One has multiple quirks and can implant quirks into people. So, when they see Deku using One for All, they assume he’s a villain and distance themselves from him.

The Next Arc

Up until the second half of this arc, I thought All for One was a boring villain. He’s evil basically for the sake of being evil — that hasn’t changed, even now. And, his quirk being that he can have almost any quirk isn’t too exciting, either.

Well, his quirk could be exciting. But, from the one fight we saw involving him (when he fought All Might) he didn’t do too much. He combined a few quirks to give himself pseudo-strength on par with All Might’s. And since then, all he’s really done is create EMPs.

But, now that we’ve seen All for One be a bit more strategic, I’m interested. The way he was able to erode the civilian’s confidence in heroes and Deku specifically is unique. And the implication is that he’s been doing this kind of stuff all along — even in his fight against All Might.

Touya "Dabi" Todoroki from the anime series My Hero Academia Season 6
Touya “Dabi” Todoroki

While I’m now looking forward to what All for One is going to do next, not every villain has my interest. Dabi, in particular, is one I don’t care about anymore. The big reveal about him being Touya Todoroki wasn’t a surprise to anyone. And his motivations are lame.

But, there’s still hope for Season 7. In the final episode of Season 6, we’re introduced to some new pro heroes from overseas. I’m excited to see these new heroes in action. And the hero I’m most excited to see is Star and Stripe, the United States’ #1 pro hero.

Even though I’ve always given My Hero Academia high ratings, I still likely qualify as a hater. I’ve never actually looked forward to a season and I hate most of the main characters. But, this time, I have high expectations for Season 7 thanks to Season 6.

Conclusion

In the end, I gave My Hero Academia Season 6 an 8/10. It’s the best season of the series to date. But, I’m hoping that Season 7 can surpass it. Though, I don’t see myself giving it a 9/10. It would have to be crazy good for that.
