Overview

Do You Love Your Mom and Her Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks? (Tsuujou Kougeki ga Zentai Kougeki de Ni-kai Kougeki no Okaasan wa Suki Desu ka? / 通常攻撃が全体攻撃で二回攻撃のお母さんは好きですか?), or simply Okaa-san Online, is an isekai where the twist is that everyone who’s sent to the other world is accompanied by their mom.

You may have also seen, or heard, this series referred to as Milfsekai. I’ll be sticking to Okaa-san Online for this review to keep it at least somewhat family-friendly. And as far as the series goes, it really is family friendly for the most part.

Okaa-san Online is one of those isekai anime like That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime that has a great initial premise, but poor execution. Based on the first episode or two of this series, you’d think that it was going to be an ecchi comedy, but no.

For example, when we’re first introduced to the character Wise, there are at least eight panty-shots of her in just that episode. I think the rest of the season had one altogether. And the same thing is true for Mamako. At the start of the series she’s used in a lot of ecchi gags, but then not again for the rest of the season.

But, I get it, you’re probably thinking that it’s a good thing this series wasn’t an ecchi comedy. That’s where you’re wrong. Once this series stopped being ecchi, it lost the only real reason to watch it. Aside from that, it doesn’t exactly have a plot, the characters are all one-dimensional, and it continuously relies on the same, stale jokes.

Characters

Masato “Ma-kun” Oosuki is our bland protagonist of the series. And I’m not just saying he’s bland because he’s your typical isekai protagonist. Even among standard isekai protagonists, this guy is bland. His only real characters trait are that he gets embarrassed by his mom and always tries to act mad at her.

Mamako Oosuki is Masato’s mother. As the full title of the series kind of implies, she’s extremely overpowered. Masato is strong too, don’t get me wrong, but Mamako is on another level. And unfortunately one of her ongoing gags is that she makes it so there’s absolutely no real conflict.

Porta is the first outside character to join Masato and Mamako’s party. She’s a porter, meaning she’s a non-combat class who just carries things around for the other members of the party. Her special ability is that she has a bottomless bag. Overall, Porta is pretty good.

Wise is the next character to join the party and is the best girl of the series — just above Porta. She’s an offensive mage who has a knack for getting her magic sealed by the various monsters and enemies she encounters. She’s also a tsundere with twin tails.

The final member of the party is Medhi, the healer. Medhi joins the party rather late in the season compared to the others, so see the least of her. However, it’s eventually revealed that her quirk is that she has a fairly unique personality trait. I’d spoil it, but maybe someone is actually going to watch this series.

There’s also Shirase, a character who isn’t a member of the party. She works for the game (yes, game) company which created the world all the other characters are in.

Mom Jokes

Okaa-san Online takes place in an MMMMMORPG (Mom’s Massively Maternal Multiplayer Making-Up-With-Offspring Role-Playing Game). And that’s just the very first of hundreds, if not thousands, of bad mom jokes throughout the series.

While there are plenty of mom jokes at the start of the series, when it’s still ecchi, they become even more prevalent later on. As the ecchi is phased out, it’s replaced by more and more jokes revolving around the concept of mothers.

And the worst part is that as the series progresses, the jokes just get recycled more and more as well. I honestly don’t think there’s an original joke left in the series by episode 8. Before that point a lot of jokes were recycled, but after it, all of them are.

What I think happened here is that the original creator is one of those people who really gets into a cycle of repeating the same jokes over and over thinking that they get funnier each time. Unfortunately, if you’ve ever met someone like that, you’ll know that this very quickly goes from funny to annoying.

And the kind of person who does this is someone who quickly gets avoided by everyone else. Maybe that’s why the author started writing this series in the first place — they simply had nobody left to tell their mom jokes to.

The fact that Okaa-san Online is their one and only published series seems to lend credibility to that idea.

Conclusion

Do You Love Your Mom and Her Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks? is, at most, a 3/10 from me. I’ve actually never seen an individual person rate it higher than a 3, so despite it’s collective rating being a bit higher, I think my score is extremely fair.

The beginning of the series is alright at best, and by the end the only things it has going for it are Wise and Porta. Unfortunately, Wise and Porta also get less and less screen time the farther into the season you get. Like everything else, they’re phased out for more mom jokes.

And this isn’t even one of those series which is funny because it’s bad. I originally watched it in a group over on my Discord server (join it), but I think we dropped this series from the group watch around episode 5. Watching the rest of the series alone was no small feat.
