Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 7 Review

Disciple and Apprentice

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 7 was good. It may be my favorite episode of the series so far. And that feels strange to say considering the lack of action or anything too interesting. But, I thought it was a pretty fun episode.

What I thought was fun about the first half was Julie. I enjoyed seeing how she reacted to certain things. For example, when Rudeus got mad at Zanoba, Julie hid behind Zanoba. And when Rudeus got closer to Zanoba, Julie ran away. Seeing her do things like that was cute.

Also, we now know that Julie isn’t a slave. Of course, she was a slave when Rudeus/Zanoba bought her. But, they didn’t brand her as a slave and aren’t treating her as one. Rudeus sees Julie as his apprentice and Zanoba sees Julie as a junior disciple of Rudeus.

Now, my assumption is that Julie isn’t going to travel with Rudeus when he leaves Ranoa. I don’t know when he’ll be leaving, of course. He might be there for a few years. But, the whole point of buying Julie was so that she could make figures for Zanoba.

So, if Zanoba leaves Ranoa first, Julie’s going to go with him. And if Rudeus leaves Ranoa first, Julie’s going to stay behind with Zanoba. However, that doesn’t mean we won’t see Julie again after that. She’s definitely going to appear again later in the series. After all, she’s Rudeus’s apprentice.

I wonder if Julie will ever meet Roxy. It would be pretty cool to see Rudeus’s master and apprentice meet at some point. And, I guess if Julie ever met Roxy, that would mean Zanoba would meet her, as well. He hasn’t met her, right? I actually can’t remember.

Rudeus Doesn’t Know His Own Strength

It was a bit surprising to see that Rudeus underestimated his own strength in this episode. He thought the fight against Linia and Pursena was going to be more difficult than it was. But, shouldn’t he know that he’s way too powerful for his age?

Sure, Rudeus isn’t the most powerful person around. There are others who can easily defeat him. For example, there was that Dragon God guy who basically killed Rudeus in Season 1. Even as Rudeus is now, I doubt he would stand a chance.

What about against someone like Ghislaine? Would Rudeus be able to defeat her? I’m going to say yes. But, it would be a very difficult fight for him due to Ghislaine’s combat experience. However, Linia and Pursena aren’t Ghislaine. They may be beastkin like her. But, they don’t have her training and experience.

After the fight, Rudeus compares Linia and Pursena to Paul and Eris. He says, “Maybe Paul and Eris were stronger than I thought.” And, I’m not sure why he would compare these girls to Paul. Paul was an S-ranked adventurer. Of course he’s strong. Eris is a better comparison, though, and this shows that she actually has skill.

Anyway, Rudeus should still recognize that he’s far stronger than the other students. They’re students who likely don’t have much practical experience. He’s already traveled across the Demon Continent and fought alongside skilled adventurers. And, that’s not to mention all his skills.

Rudeus can silently cast magic that’s stronger than most people can cast at all. Remember his weather-altering magic? He’s also pretty skilled at physical combat thanks to Ghislaine, Ruijerd, and Eris. And, he has a demon eye that lets him see a few seconds into the future that he got from Kishirika Kishirisu.

The Kidnapping and Confinement of Beast Girls

Season 2 Episode 7 isn’t the first time Rudeus has been involved with the kidnapping of beast girls. Though, the first time, he was on the opposite side of things. Now, he’s the kidnapper instead of the savior.

So, why did Rudeus kidnap Linia and Pursena? He wanted to teach them a lesson for destroying the figure of Roxy he made. Though, halfway through their punishment, he realized it actually doesn’t matter. He seems to have previously forgotten that he can just fix the figure.

Either way, he still needs to teach these girls to respect the property of others. But, he doesn’t know what the best way to do that is. So, he leaves them tied up and gagged in his room for an entire day. And, by the time he comes back with Fitz, they’ve made a mess in his room.

What’s funny about this is that the most effective punishment was Rudeus trying to come up with a punishment. After the girls soiled themselves, they weren’t putting up a fight anymore. From that point on, they were obedient. Though, Fitz performed some additional psychological torture on them even after that.

Personally, I’m pretty confident that Rudeus could have avoided the whole kidnapping thing. All he had to do was prove how much stronger he is than both Linia and Pursena. And, name-dropping Ghislaine would have likely helped, as well. After all, Linia is Ghislaine’s niece.

There are two things from this part of the episode that I really liked, though. The first was Linia and Pursena looking at Zanoba and Julie to see how scared they were of Rudeus. And the second was how Pursena started calling Rudeus “Boss.” Pursena is a dog beastkin, and she recognizes Rudeus as the alpha.

Conclusion

What do you think of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 7? Do you like the addition of Julie? Why do you think Rudeus underestimated his own strength? And do you like Linia or Pursena more? Let me know in the comments. I’m on team Pursena, personally.
