One Piece Episode 1165 Review
Elbaph’s Last Great Warrior
One Piece Episode 1165 was a surprisingly good episode. A lot happened this week, and the first thing I want to discuss is Collun’s introduction. We’ve seen him before, but I believe this is the first episode in which we’re given his name.
As we saw in the previous episodes featuring Collun, he’s interested in Luffy. And a big part of why he’s interested in Luffy is that Collun appears to want to be a pirate when he grows up. Unfortunately for him, none of the other kids in his generation share his enthusiasm for danger and adventure.
But this is exactly why I enjoyed Collun’s initial interaction with Luffy so much. He attacks Luffy, Luffy fights back, and then Luffy says that Collun’s got guts and laughs. This is exactly the kind of interaction that will spur Collun’s drive to become a pirate. He met his hero and wasn’t disappointed.

Something else worth noting about Collun is that Ripley is his mother. She previously referred to herself as part of Elbaph’s last warrior generation. And from how we see her interact with her son, it’s clear that she still values the art of war.
While Ripley acknowledges that Collun shouldn’t be making a scene and should focus on his studies, she also makes sure to compliment him on his sword technique. It’s good to see that not all giants on Elbaph think the ways of the sword are useless.
Finally, Collun mentions that his father is actually a human. We don’t know who this man is yet. But we’re told that he’s strong enough that he wouldn’t lose in a fight to any of the giants. And we know he’s younger than Ripley. I think it’d be funny if it turned out to be Shanks.
Gerd Is Nothing Like Road
Only six of the 10 Straw Hats had new outfits specifically for Elbaph before Episode 1165. Robin, Franky, Brook, and Jinbe were still wearing non-Elbaphian attire because they weren’t captured by Road. But now, they match with the rest of the crew.
So, did Road make outfits for the remaining four crew members? Nope. It was actually Gerd, the person who seems to hate Road most of all and calls him perverted and a creep. Who would have guessed that they shared the same hobby?
Of course, Gerd insists that she’s nothing like Road and that they have nothing in common. After all, she only enjoys making clothes for “tiny humans.” She would never kidnap them and keep them as toys in a block kingdom the way Road does.
I get the feeling that this is a dolls vs. action figures situation.

Gerd just wants tiny humans to wear the clothes she makes, as if she’s playing dress-up with some dolls. Road wants to rule over the tiny humans he makes clothes for, pretending to be the Sun God. Also, he doesn’t let the humans he captures leave the block kingdom.
Anyway, let’s move on to something entirely unrelated: Biblo the owl. Man, what a good segue I did there.
So, in my review of Episode 1164, I theorized that the books turning giant when entering the Owl Library was caused by a Devil Fruit. Specifically, I predicted it would be the owl’s Devil Fruit and that it may be awakened because it has an area of effect.
We now know the Owl’s name is Biblo, he’s at least a few hundred years old, and Lilith assumes he has the Grow-Grow Fruit. Unfortunately, we didn’t get confirmation on whether Biblo has awakened this Devil Fruit.
The Knights of God
The last thing we need to talk about from Episode 1165 is the Knights of God. I’ve previously heard their name translated as the God’s Knights, and I prefer that translation. But since the official anime translation appears to be Knights of God, that’s what I’m going to use in this review.
Okay, so who are the Knights of God? Well, we see two of them in this episode, and we get the name of one of them from the next episode preview. The blue-haired woman is Gunko. And the red-haired man’s name is unknown.
Obviously, the red-haired man looks exactly like Shanks. So, it would make sense to assume that this is Shanks. But the fact that his left eye is covered makes me suspicious. That’s where Shanks’s scar is, which is one of his defining features. If this was really Shanks, why would that be hidden from view?

Also, you may remember that we saw someone who was wearing a cloak and looked just like Shanks before. Back during the Reverie, he had an audience with the Five Elders. And at the time, it didn’t really make sense why Shanks would meet with them — or why they would meet with him.
My assumption at this point is that the person who met with the Five Elders and this person with Gunko are the same. But how they’re connected to Shanks is unclear. Since they’re also seemingly connected to the World Government, something nefarious may be going on.
“Knights of God” makes it seem like they serve Imu directly. So, could this man be a clone of Shanks? I wouldn’t be surprised if Imu had a personal army of clones of all the strongest people from around the world.
Final Thoughts
What do you think of One Piece Episode 1165? How long do you think it will be before people start saying that Collun has to join the Straw Hat crew? He’s obviously not going to. He’s this arc’s token child character. Do you think Gerd and Road could be friends? And what are your first impressions of the Knights of God?
