One Piece Episode 1092 Review

New Island, New Outfits

Right at the start of One Piece Episode 1092, we get some exposition about the Vegapunks. As expected, there are six of them. But, what I didn’t expect is that they aren’t the same as Judge Vinsmoke’s children.

The Vegapunks (officially called Satellites) are different aspects of the Dr. Vegapunk. Because he’s so busy, he split his personality up into different bodies. Shaka is the good one, Lilith is the evil one, Edison is the thinker, Pythagoras is the wise one, Atlas is the violent one, and York is the greedy one.

For now, it’s still unclear if the original Dr. Vegapunk still exists. In the OP, we only see him as a hologram. So, it’s possible that his original body no longer exists. It might just be the six Vegapunks now. Or, he could exist without those personalities within him.

Luffy wearing his new outfit for the Egghead Island arc

Enough about the Vegapunks, though. The more important thing we got from this episode is some new outfits. Luffy, Chopper, Jinbe, and Bonney all got their Egghead Island outfits. I know Bonney isn’t a member of the Straw Hats, but I’m glad she got a new outfit too.

Seeing Bonney in her Egghead outfit was a nice teaser for when we eventually get Nami and Robin in theirs. I know we’ve already seen their Egghead outfits in the OP and mid-roll. However, I can’t wait for the official reveal. I hope we don’t have to wait too much longer.

Anyway, there are two kinds of outfits to choose from. There’s the SSG (Special Science Group) futuristic outfit. And there’s a tropical outfit with a Hawaiian shirt. Jinbe goes with the tropical outfit while Luffy, Chopper, and Bonney go with SSG outfits. They all come with SSG boots, though.

Bonney’s Lamentation

I thought Bonney said that Kuma was her father in Episode 1091. But, I guess all she told Luffy, Chopper, and Jinbe was that Dr. Vegapunk turned her father into a cyborg. She didn’t tell them she was talking about Kuma until Episode 1092.

Well, now they know. And, that could make things a bit more complicated. If Bonney won’t let the Straw Hats fight the Pacifistas, things could get tricky. But, maybe they’ll be able to convince her that the Pacifistas aren’t Kuma. They’re based on Kuma, but there’s still only one original that’s Kuma.

Do we know if the Pacifista currently with the Revolutionary Army is the original Kuma? I think it is. But, I don’t remember if we know that for sure. If it is, do you think Bonney knows where he is? Or, does she not know which one is the real Kuma?

Bonney reacting to seeing a Pacifista from the anime series One Piece Episode 1092
Bonney reacting to seeing a Pacifista

I suppose we’ll find that all out in this arc. And, hopefully, we’ll get more information about how Kuma and Bonney are related. He definitely raised her based on the flashback we saw in this episode. But, I’m still not convinced that they’re related by blood.

Also, speaking of Kuma, we saw a new Seraphim based on him with CP0. That should make things even more interesting with Bonney. The Seraphim version of Kuma is pretty different than the original Kuma. So, how’s she going to view that one? Is she still going to think of it like Kuma?

Oh, and I almost forgot, didn’t Kuma volunteer to be the model for the Pacifistas? I seem to remember that being the case. Was that World Government propaganda or was it true? And how do you think that will change how Bonney views the Pacifistas?

Blackbeard Vs. Heart Pirates

Toward the end of the episode, we caught up with the Heart Pirates and saw them run into the Blackbeard Pirates. If you were paying attention to the OP, you’ll have known this was going to happen at some point.

In the OP, we see Luffy fight Lucci, Law fight Blackbeard, Kid fight Shanks, and Garp fight Aokiji. Also, Zoro fights what appears to be one of the Seraphim. Considering this is Zoro we’re talking about, I assume that’s the Seraphim based on Mihawk.

So, we have those fights to look forward to in this arc. And the first seems like it’s going to be Law vs. Blackbeard. And, if I’m being honest, I don’t see how Law’s going to win this. Yes, Law’s strong. But, is he Blackbeard strong? Also, his crew is a bunch of weaklings compared to Blackbeard’s crew.

Blackbeard attacking the Heart Pirates from the anime series One Piece Episode 1092
Blackbeard attacking the Heart Pirates

From my understanding, none of Law’s crewmates have devil fruit powers or even the ability to use Haki. They’re just normal pirates. Law is the reason why they’re a strong crew. The rest of them are there more for comedy than anything else. So, they’re not going to be helpful in this fight.

Does that mean this is going to be the end of Law? I wouldn’t actually mind that. I don’t feel like Oda would kill off Law here. But, there’s also not much reason to keep him alive, either. His story ended with the defeat of Kaido.

My prediction is that Law won’t die here, though. Sure, it would reinforce Blackbeard as a major threat. But, that’s not necessary. Instead, I think Blackbeard is going to capture Law and try to get him to perform the immortality surgery on him. Remember, that’s a special thing Law’s devil fruit can do.

Final Thoughts

What do you think of One Piece Episode 1092? Of the four new outfits for Egghead Island we’ve seen so far, which is your favorite? How do you think Bonney will react to the Kuma Seraphim? And, do you think Law will survive his encounter with Blackbeard?

One Piece Episode 1091 Review

One Piece Episode 1091 Review

Don’t Underestimate the Straw Hats

One Piece Episode 1091 wasn’t the most exciting episode recently. But, something I liked about it was the interaction between Lilith and the Straw Hats at the start. Before getting into that, though, I guess I should explain who Lilith is.

Lilith is one of the Vegapunks. What that means exactly is still unclear. We know there are multiple Vegapunks, which I’ll get to later in this review. However, we still don’t know if they’re the same as the Germa 66 children or if they’re something different. But, we know Lilith isn’t the Vegapunk.

How do we know this? Robin says she’s never heard anything about Vegapunk being a woman. And, in response to that, Brook says something completely out of pocket. Confirming Robin’s comment, he says that Vegapunk is supposed to be the smartest guy in the world.

Lilith (Vegapunk) from the anime series One Piece Episode 1091
Lilith (Vegapunk)

I don’t know if anyone else took Brook’s comment this way. But, to me, it sounded like he was saying that a woman couldn’t be the smartest person in the world. I don’t think that’s what Brook meant. However, the way he phrased it really made it seem like that’s what he was saying.

Anyway, in response to all this, Lilith says that the one they’re thinking of is Shaka, a different Vegapunk. Is that the Vegapunk? That’s still unclear.

Anyway, what was the interaction between Lilith and the Straw Hats that I liked? It was when Lilith realized her mistake in underestimating them.

Well, she didn’t exactly realize it. Shaka told her she made a mistake. He pointed out how she was in range of both Zoro and Robin. Either of them could kill her if they wanted to. It doesn’t matter if the Sea Beasts can destroy their ship. They’ll kill Lilith before that happens.

An Adventure on the Island of Science!

At this point, the majority of the Straw Hats are still on the Sunny. But, Luffy, Chopper, and Jinbe (and Bonney) make their way into the interior of Egghead Island. And, what they find there is like nothing they’ve seen before.

Bonney reveals that this isn’t the first time she’s been on the island. She was here once before when she was a child. Though, we can’t be sure how long ago that was since we don’t know her true age.

What’s clear is that the island wasn’t anywhere near as advanced as it is now when she was last here. Everything she’s seeing on the island is new to her. There weren’t giant holograms or vending machines that can create food within seconds. But, we have to consider the exponential pace of technological advancement.

Chopper, Bonney, and Luffy mad that the giant parfait is a hologram from the anime series One Piece Episode 1091
Chopper, Bonney, and Luffy mad that the giant parfait is a hologram

Look at how fast technology has advanced in our world. The Internet became widely available in 1993. And, only 14 years later, the first smartphones were released in 2007. 17 years after that, we have VR technology that can pin digital screens around your house.

So, even if Bonney had been away from Egghead Island for 15 years, a lot could have changed. That’s especially true when you have a scientist like Vegapunk working there. He’s responsible for most of the major technological developments in the One Piece world. Obviously, the island he lives on is going to advance even faster.

Unrelated, but I also want to point out Bonney’s relation to Kuma. She says he’s her father — and that feels familiar. That might not be new information. But, I get the feeling she’s not biologically related to him. He might be her adoptive father or father figure.

The Vegapunks

Alright, let’s talk about the Vegapunks. What do we know about them from this episode? What do we know about them from the OP? And, what assumptions can we make based on that information? You may be surprised by how much we actually know about these new characters.

First, let’s look at what we know from Episode 1091. We can be pretty confident that there are at least five Vegapunks — and we have the names of three of them. Shaka is Vegapunk 01, Lilith is Vegapunk 02, and Atlas is Vegapunk 05. So, we can assume there are Vegapunks 03 and 04, too.

The OP gives us even more information, though. Not only does it reveal what Vegapunks 03 and 04 look like. But, it also reveals Vegapunk 06. We see all six Vegapunks together twice in the OP. With that in mind, we can assume that there are six main Vegapunks.

Atlas (Vegapunk) from the anime series One Piece Episode 1091
Atlas (Vegapunk)

Why am I saying there are six main Vegapunks? Lilith’s Sea Beast Weapons and giant robot also have numbers. The robot is number 12 and one of the Sea Beast Weapons is number 15. So, are these also considered “Vegapunks?” That’s not yet clear.

In my review of Episode 1090, I also mentioned we saw who I assume is the real Dr. Vegapunk in the OP. One of the shots from the OP shows the six Vegapunks on a screen. Then, an old man with an apple on his head pops out in front of them.

This old man is who I assume the real Dr. Vegapunk is. His age lines up and the apple could be referencing his work on artificial devil fruit. Based on this, I’m going to stick with my theory that the six main Vegapunks are like the Germa 66 kids.

Final Thoughts

What do you think about One Piece Episode 1091? Were you surprised that Shaka considered Robin on a similar threat level as Zoro? Do you think Bonney is Kuma’s biological daughter? And, which of the three officially revealed Vegapunks is your favorite? Atlas has my favorite design, by far. She’s a giant sheep girl.

One Piece Episode 1090 Review

One Piece Episode 1090 Review

Koby the Captive

One Piece Episode 1090 uses a classic One Piece bait title. The title is “A New Island! Future Island Egghead,” but it doesn’t really have much to do with Egghead Island. It’s not the worst case of One Piece title bait. But, I felt like we hadn’t had a bait title like that in a bit.

Anyway, the first thing I want to discuss doesn’t have anything to do with Egghead Island either. See that? I can bait too. Instead, I want to take a look at what happened to Koby after the attack on Amazon Lily.

We know that Silvers Rayleigh got Blackbeard to back down. And, in exchange for Blackbeard and the Marines leaving the island, Boa unpetrified their men. That’s where things left off in Episode 1088. But, it turns out that everything didn’t end as nicely as I thought.

Helmeppo begging for help saving Koby

Apparently, Blackbeard took Koby captive. Why though? What does Blackbeard get out of doing that? Koby doesn’t have a devil fruit. And, it’s not like he’s a super high-ranking member of the Marines. From what I remember, he’s a captain. So, not a grunt, but not even a Rear Admiral or Commodore.

My guess is that Blackbeard took Koby because of his title. He’s known as the Hero Koby. A kidnapped Captain might not be much leverage in negotiations. But, a Hero? Blackbeard might be able to get some concessions from the Marines for the return of a Hero.

With that said, the Marines aren’t very interested in rescuing Koby. They know how dangerous Blackbeard and his crew are. They’re not going to approach the island. Instead, they’ll wait to see what Blackbeard wants to do. If he comes to them with an offer, they might consider it.

Future Island Egghead

The only part of Episode 1090 that has to do with Egghead Island is that it’s where Jinbe, Luffy, Chopper, and Bonney washed up. It’s not even like they ventured into the part of the island. They’re in a cave by the shore.

It’s here, though, that we find out Luffy doesn’t remember who Bonney is. That’s no surprise. But, I would have thought at least Chopper or Jinbe would know. I mean, Chopper was there for the events of Sabaody two years ago. And, Jinbe seems like he would know about the Worst Generation pirates.

Anyway, It’s no coincidence that the Straw Hats ran into Bonney near this island. Vegapunk is to Bonney what Doflamingo was to Law. Bonney even says that the reason she’s here is to confront Vegapunk. But, at first, I didn’t remember why that was.

Jewelry Bonney putting her top back on from the anime series One Piece Episode 1090
Jewelry Bonney putting her top back on

It was only during the post-credits scene with Chopper and Robin that I remembered. Bonney had some sort of connection with Kuma. And so she wants to get revenge on Vegapunk for turning Kuma into the Pacifistas. Unfortunately, we don’t yet know anything more about their relationship.

I doubt Bonney was a member of the Revolutionary Army. So, it’s more likely that she has some other connection with Kuma from her childhood. Maybe he saved her when she was younger or something.

It’s also important to note that Bonney no longer has a crew. She was separated from them when the World Nobles and then Blackbeard held her captive. So, if she’s going to get her revenge on Vegapunk, she’s probably going to need the Straw Hats’ help.

Of all the Worst Generation Pirates, Bonney’s the one I most want to learn more about. Everything about her is mysterious. Who is she, really?

Dr. Vegapunk Appears

At the end of Episode 1090, the Sunny and remaining members of the crew are “saved” by a giant robot. The giant robot fights off the Mecha Shark that attacked the ship. And, it even brings the ship and the crew back to the surface of the ocean.

But, the woman who steps out of the robot doesn’t claim to have saved the ship. She claims to be the one also behind the Mecha Shark attack. And, she claims to be Dr. Vegapunk. But, is she really Dr. Vegapunk?

We don’t know that much about Vegapunk. But, we know Vegapunk formerly worked alongside Queen of the Beast Pirates and Judge of Germa 66. So, with that information in mind, Vegapunk should be pretty old. This woman looks pretty young — like in her 20s or something.

A woman claiming to be Dr. Vegapunk from the anime series One Piece Episode 1090
A woman claiming to be Dr. Vegapunk

Now, it’s not impossible for this woman to be Vegapunk. She could have created a technology that allowed her to reduce her age. And, although I assumed Vegapunk was a man, I’m not sure if their gender has ever been revealed. So, it’s possible that Vegapunk is a woman.

However, I’ve also seen the new opening for this arc. There’s an old man with a fruit on his head in it and I assume that he’s the real Vegapunk. But, if that’s true, who’s this woman?

For now, my guess is that she’s Vegapunk’s version of the Vinsmoke children. Judge Vinsmoke created superhuman children as weapons. And, I wouldn’t be surprised if Vegapunk saw that and decided to replicate it himself.

By that logic, this woman could technically be Dr. Vegapunk. As one of Vegapunk’s “children,” her surname could be Vegapunk. And, we know she’s a scientist who created the giant robot and Mecha Shark.

Final Thoughts

What do you think about One Piece Episode 1090? How do you think Koby is going to escape from Blackbeard’s island? What do you think Bonney’s connection to Kuma is? Was it already revealed and I’m just forgetting? And, how do you think the woman at the end of the episode is related to Vegapunk?

One Piece Episode 1089 Review

One Piece Episode 1089 Review

The Lulusia Kingdom Never Existed

One Piece Episode 1089 was an amazing episode. Everything about it was great. The art and animation were great. The direction was great. And, the content was epic. So, let’s get right into the big talking point: Im’s power.

In my Episode 1088 review, I was wondering whether or not Sabo saw Im. We now know he did. And, to prevent him from revealing Im’s existence to the world, the entire island he was on got obliterated. Not by Marine warships, but by what appeared to be Im’s power.

Now, to be fair, we don’t know if this was Im’s doing. It was heavily implied, though. We also don’t know what exactly this power is. Is it Im’s devil fruit ability? Or, is this one of the ancient weapons? If it’s an ancient weapon, that would mean it’s Uranus — we already know where Poseidon and Pluton are.

The Lulusia Kingdom being crossed off a map from the anime series One Piece Episode 1089
The Lulusia Kingdom being crossed off a map

My prediction is that this is Uranus, not Im’s devil fruit ability. It’s been long theorized that Uranus would be a sky-based weapon. And, if this is a devil fruit ability, I have no idea what devil fruit it would be.

But, regardless of what this power is, we can be pretty sure Im’s held it for a very long time. Remember that little thing called the Void Century that took place between 800 and 900 years ago? Remember how it ended with the destruction (and disappearance) of the ancient kingdom?

Well, it looks like we now know what happened to the ancient kingdom. After its destruction, the World Government (and likely Im) came to power. So, it seems pretty clear that Im used this same island-destroying power 800 years ago. Forget everything Morgans is writing about, this is big news.

Entering a New Chapter

You might have noticed that the second part of Episode 1089’s title was “Luffy and Sabo’s Paths!” But, that’s kind of a weird title for the episode if Sabo’s path just came to an end, right? That’s why I’m pretty sure Sabo survived the destruction of the Lulusia Kingdom.

How could he have done this, though? It’s not quite as hard as you’d think. After all, Sabo has a logia devil fruit. That means the lasers that rained down from the sky shouldn’t be able to hurt him — unless they’re haki lasers.

The only thing he has to worry about is ending up in the ocean now that the island no longer exists. But, I have faith that he’ll figure out some way to escape a watery grave. Oh, and speaking of the island disappearing, did you notice the giant hole that was left behind?

It looks a lot like the hole below Enies Lobby. Is that where the ancient kingdom was once located?

Nami shivering in the snow from the anime series One Piece Episode 1089
Nami shivering in the snow

Anyway, enough about Sabo’s path. What about Luffy’s? We know that this is the Egghead arc. And, we know the Straw Hats are going to make their way to Egghead Island. But, at this point, they don’t really have a destination.

It’s not like, after Wano, they knew they were going to Egghead Island next. If you recall, Luffy, Law, and Kid all chose different directions and went their separate ways. And, on top of that, nobody knows where the final Road Poneglyph is.

For the first time in a long time, the Straw Hats don’t have a clear destination. Ever since Punk Hazard, their path has been set. From Punk Hazard to Dressrosa to Zou to Whole Cake Island and finally to Wano. Now, they’re back to exploring.

The Girl in the Water

Despite being in a cold, snowy climate, the Straw Hats came across a hot, floating bubble of water in the ocean. Then, they noticed that there was someone within this bubble. Am I the only one who thought they were about to pick up Sabo?

Well, my Sabo theory didn’t last long. It turns out the person in the water was Jewelry Bonney, a member of the Worst Generation. She’s one of only two pirates from this generation who hasn’t gotten much screen time. So, I guess Egghead is the arc in which she’ll get to shine.

Law spent a lot of time with the Straw Hats. Blackbeard is one of the main antagonists of the series. Bege was at Whole Cake Island. And, Kid, Hawkins, Apoo, and Drake were all at Wano. Other than Bonney, Urouge is the only Worst Generation pirate we haven’t seen much of.

Jewelry Bonney (child form) from the anime series One Piece Episode 1089
Jewelry Bonney (child form)

Do you think Urouge is going to make an appearance in this arc, as well? From what I remember, the last time we saw him was before Apoo sold Kid and Hawkins out to Kaido. Kaido jumped off a sky island at that point, and I think we saw Urouge sitting up there watching.

I’m going to guess that Urouge isn’t going to be in this arc. Maybe he’ll be in the next arc (Elbaf?). But, I’m also going to guess that Bonney’s going to play a major role here. She’s going to be like Law in Dressrosa, Bege in Whole Cake Island, and Kid in Wano.

I’m looking forward to learning more about her. We know her devil fruit lets her change the age of herself and others. We also know she likes to eat a lot. However, I don’t think we know much else about her.

Final Thoughts

What do you think of One Piece Episode 1089? Do you think the power Im used to destroy the Lulusia Kingdom was Uranus or a devil fruit ability? How do you think Sabo is going to have escaped from the destruction? And, what do you want to learn about Jewelry Bonney in this arc?

One Piece Episode 1088 Review

Rayleigh to the Rescue

One Piece 1088 is the final episode grouped within the Wano arc (on Crunchyroll). But, the content of this episode, and the previous two episodes, falls under the Egghead arc. Why is that the case? Because it has more to do with Egghead than Wano.

Also, before I get into this episode, I want to say that I’m not as close to being caught up as I thought. There are (currently) five more episodes out. But, considering I’m doing two One Piece episode reviews per week right now, I should catch up soon.

Alright, now, there were two big surprises at the start of Episode 1088. The first is that Silvers Rayleigh rescued Boa Hancock. He arrived just in time and negotiated the withdrawal of both Blackbeard and the Marines. And, that was a shock considering this is Blackbeard we’re talking about.

Silvers Rayleigh drawing his sword from the anime series One Piece Episode 1088
Silvers Rayleigh drawing his sword

Now, I know Blackbeard is a smart pirate. He’s a schemer, which is how he’s gotten this far. But, I wasn’t expecting him to fall for Rayleigh’s bluff like that. Sure, this is Silvers Rayleigh we’re talking about. But, Rayleigh himself even admitted he’s not strong enough to beat Blackbeard.

I guess Blackbeard’s thought was that it wouldn’t simply be him versus Rayleigh. He’d also have to fight Boa Hancock (and probably Koby) at the same time. However, I still think he would have had the upper hand in that battle. After all, he has both the Dark Dark and Tremor Tremor Fruits.

The second big surprise was that we finally learned what pirate crew Shakuyaku was part of. We knew she had been a pirate in the past. But, we now know she was the captain of the Kuja Pirates. Shakuyaku was the Empress of Amazon Lily two generations before Boa Hancock.

Sabo and Cobra

The Reverie happened quite a while ago in the anime. But, what we have to keep in mind is that it was actually happening at the same time as the events of Wano. So, news from the Reverie is only now getting out to the rest of the world.

The big news (as Morgans would say) is that Sabo killed Cobra. As we know, Sabo is a high-ranking member of the Revolutionary Army as well as Luffy’s sworn brother. And, Cobra Nefertari is the King of Alabasta and Vivi’s father.

So, the question on everyone’s mind is, did Sabo actually kill Cobra? It seems unlikely for a variety of reasons. First of all, Sabo’s dream is to create a world in which everyone can be free. He’s not someone who’s going to kill others unless absolutely necessary.

Ivankov, Koala, and Morely of the Revolutionary Army from the anime series One Piece Episode 1088
Ivankov, Koala, and Morely of the Revolutionary Army

Second, Cobra isn’t an enemy of the Revolutionary Army. Sure, he’s one of the rulers who make up the World Government. But, that’s not who the Revolutionary Army is fighting against. They’re fighting against the Celestial Dragons who oppress the people of the world. It’s the Celestial Dragons, the Five Elder Stars, and Im who are the tyrants.

Though speaking of Im, I’m not sure if the Revolutionary Army knows about him. I mean, we barely know about him. And, I don’t remember if Sabo ran into him during Reverie since that was so long ago. He might have. I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

Anyway, why did this news come out about Sabo and Cobra? Well, Im or the Five Elder Stars likely had Cobra killed. Then, since Sabo infiltrated the Reverie, they used him as a scapegoat. As for Vivi’s disappearance, we also know that Im’s interested in her for some reason.

Luffy’s Dream

At the end of the episode, Luffy reveals his dream to the rest of the Straw Hat crew. And no, I don’t mean his dream of becoming King of the Pirates. Everyone knows that one. I mean his other dream that’s even more important.

Becoming King of the Pirates is something Luffy wants to achieve, of course. But, one of the main reasons he wants to achieve that is so that he can fulfill his true dream. And, from what I remember, it’s implied that this is the same dream Roger once had.

However, we still don’t know what this dream is. I really thought we were finally going to learn it considering the title of the episode. But, no. We’re not important enough. Luffy has only ever told 12 people — the 9 other Straw Hat crew members, Ace, Sabo, and Shanks.

Luffy lying on the deck of the Sunny from the anime series One Piece Episode 1088
Luffy lying on the deck of the Sunny

With that said, it’s not as if Luffy’s trying to keep this dream a secret. He genuinely didn’t realize that he’d never told his crew before. He thought they all knew what his dream was. So, he tells them without making a big deal about it.

What could Luffy’s dream be, though? We know it’s more than becoming the King of the Pirates. And, we can assume it’s not the same as Ace’s or Sabo’s dreams. So, it’s not to become a famous pirate or to create a world in which everyone can be free.

Everyone who hears his dream thinks it’s ridiculous, and most of them laugh. Is that a clue? He didn’t say he told Tama. So, it’s not to create a world in which everyone can eat as much as they want. But, it could be to create a world in which everyone laughs together.

Final Thoughts

What do you think of One Piece Episode 1088? Do you think Blackbeard could have beaten Boa, Koby, and Rayleigh? Do you think Sabo really was the one who killed Cobra? And, what do you predict Luffy’s true dream is? Do you think it’s something we’ve already heard him say before?
