Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead Episode 4 Review

The Joint Bucket List

Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead Episode 4 shot down a few of the predictions I’ve made, so far. The first prediction that turned out to be incorrect was about the series as a whole. I thought we’d see each of the main characters have their own bucket list.

But, it now looks like that won’t be the case. Instead, they’ll have a joint bucket list. At least, that’s the direction Episode 4 went in. Rather than creating his own bucket list, Kencho adds his dream of becoming a comedian to Akira’s list.

In some ways, this makes more sense than each character having a list of their own. Akira only had 33 entries on his bucket list by the start of this episode. So, is it realistic for each character to have a separate 100-item list as the title implies?

It’s far more realistic for there to be a shared bucket list that adds up to 100 items. However, what this does mean is that the list won’t be split up evenly. Akira’s items already take up over a quarter of the list. Though, there’s nothing stopping the list from expanding passed 100.

Anyway, I kind of like the joint bucket list idea. And, the reason I like it is something Akira said. Now that Kencho added “Become a stand-up comic” to the list, it’s like Akira needs to be one too. That’s the fun part of the joint list.

Anything added to the list is something that the group will need to achieve together. If someone says they want to go skydiving, they all need to go skydiving. And, we already see this in action in this episode as both Akira and Kencho “Wine and dine a flight attendant.”

Flight Attendant of the Dead

The second prediction of mine that Episode 4 ruined had to do with this episode, in particular. I predicted that the titular flight attendant was going to be the fourth main character. You know, the well-endowed blonde girl in samurai armor from the OP and ED.

Since she’s blonde with blue eyes, I assume that she’s at least half-European. And, being a flight attendant would be a great reason for her to be in Japan. Though, it’s also pretty obvious she’s an otaku of sorts. Running around in samurai armor gives it away.

Obviously, the blonde girl wasn’t in this episode. I guess it’s still technically possible for her to be a flight attendant. But, now that Akira and Kencho crossed that off their list, I see no reason for her to be. I hope she shows up in the next episode, though.

Anyway, even though the blonde girl wasn’t one of the flight attendants, they were still cute. But, which flight attendant was the cutest? Right off the bat, I can tell you it’s not Reika (the alcoholic). So, it’s a battle between Yukari and Maki. And, both these girls have their pros and cons.

I’m going to go on record saying that Yukari is the cutest. She looks cuter and has a cuter personality. But, she already has a boyfriend (who’s probably dead). So, that’s a downside. However, although Yukari is cuter, I’d pick Maki to be my date.

Maki’s not exactly my type. But, it didn’t take much for Kencho to get her in bed. And, let’s be honest, that’s what matters in this situation. It’s the end of the world. We’re not looking for long-term relationships. I don’t have time to waste on a girl who already has a boyfriend.

Searching for a Dream Job

Something I’m not really liking about Zom 100 is when it tries to be a drama series. I don’t care about the tragic backstories of the characters. I’m here to watch the crazy end-of-the-world antics.

This is also how I feel about Demon Slayer. I couldn’t care less about the character backstories in that series. I watch it for the cool demon-slaying action. And I know I’m not the only one who feels that way about Demon Slayer. So, I wonder if others also feel the way I do about Zom 100.

It’s not like any of the characters have interesting backstories. The best one was Akira’s. But, that was more because his was very relatable. And considering he’s the protagonist, it makes sense for his backstory to be the most involved. Kencho’s isn’t great and neither was Yukari’s in this episode.

Of course, Yukari’s backstory wasn’t meant to be all that involved. She’s not one of the main characters; she didn’t even survive the episode. But, Yukari’s and Kencho’s backstories are a springboard for a new entry on the joint bucket list.

After talking to Akira, Yukari remembers that being a flight attendant was her dream job. Even if it’s difficult at times because of the customers, it’s still a job she loves doing. She finds her work rewarding. But, Akira has never had a job like that. And he doesn’t even know what his dream job is.

At this point, it’s hard to predict what Akira’s dream job will be in the end. I mean, it’s the end of the world. So, can it even be a real job at this point? Or, is he going to determine that his dream job is something like “living life to the fullest?”

Conclusion

What do you think of Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead Episode 4? Do you like the idea of a joint bucket list? Which of the three flight attendants would you choose? Are you interested in the character backstories? And, what do you think Akira’s dream job will be? Let me know in the comments.
