Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 27
Okinawa Vacation
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 27 took a turn I wasn’t expecting. Well, it took a few turns I wasn’t expecting. But, I think we can all agree the biggest surprise of the episode was that it was a beach episode.
Obviously, seeing Gojou and Riko having fun on the beach was a bit out of place. But, at the same time, it wasn’t bad content. It was nice to see those characters — particularly Riko — enjoying themselves for a bit. And, even if it was a bit out of place, it made sense.
Riko was planning to give up her life to Tengen-sama. So, it’s only natural that she would want to have some fun before that happens. She’s only a middle schooler, after all. And Gojou is the kind of person to recognize that this is exactly what Riko needed at the time.

The one thing I’m not going to defend about this part of the episode was why our heroes went to Okinawa. Kuroi’s kidnappers set Okinawa as the trade-off point, for some reason. Nobody knows why Okinawa was chosen because it doesn’t make sense.
Every logical explanation has a more logical alternative that would have been better. So, in the end, we’re left to assume there was only one reason. The author wanted to give us some Okinawa beach content.
Though, there is one other possibility. It wasn’t explicitly stated. But, we can assume Touji Fushiguro knows Gojou’s personality.
If the trade-off point was anywhere else, Gojou would have returned to Jujutsu High sooner. And the sooner he returns to Jujutsu High, the sooner he can deactivate his ability. But, Gojou’s not going to pass up playing (and using his ability) in Okinawa for as long as possible.

The Man with the Heavenly Pact
Touji Fushiguro is the second Fushiguro we’ve met in Jujutsu Kaisen. At least, I think he’s only the second. The only other one I can think of is Megumi Fushiguro. And at this point, I’m assuming Touji is Megumi’s father.
As far as I know, though, Megumi has cursed energy. Apparently, Touji doesn’t. And what’s weird about that is that Touji has a cursed spirit with him. If he can’t use cursed energy, then he can’t summon cursed spirits as Megumi can. So, where did this cursed spirit come from?
Also, I want to point out that Touji isn’t the only person we know of without cursed energy. Maki Zen’in is the same. And, the similarities don’t stop there. They both fight using cursed tools to compensate for their lack of cursed energy. And, they’re both very strong physically.

One thing Touji seems to have over Maki is his heavenly pact. At least, Maki doesn’t have anything like that as far as I know. She’s strong. But, Touji appears to be on another level. He can move so fast that Gojou has trouble keeping track of him.
Now, I have no idea what having a heavenly pact entails. The term “heavenly” implies it’s somehow the opposite of cursed energy. But then, you’d have to ask why someone like Touji was blessed with it. It’s pretty clear that he’s not a good guy. And he still uses a cursed spirit and cursed weapons.
I guess we got the explanation for his cursed spirit and weapon use in the past, though. At some point, someone said that only cursed energy can kill cursed spirits. So, based on that, we can assume you can’t kill a cursed spirit with a heavenly pact alone.

Besides the Okinawa trip, there were two other twists I didn’t see coming in Episode 27. The first was Gojou’s death. And the second was Riko’s death. Though, perhaps there should be asterisks beside both of those. Technically, they’re not actually all that surprising.
Let’s start with Gojou’s death. Why isn’t that surprising? Because we know Gojou isn’t dead. Both Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and Season 1 take place after the events of this episode. And, in case you forgot, Gojou is a main character in both of those. So, we already know he doesn’t die here.
What makes his “death” surprising is that he appears to be dead. How is he going to come back from that? Is he actually not as injured as he appears? Or, is someone going to heal him? If it’s the latter, my bet is Shouko Ieiri is going to be the one to do it.

So, what about Riko’s death wasn’t surprising? The fact that she died. I always assumed Riko was going to die. However, I didn’t expect how she died. I thought she’d get assimilated into Tengen-sama and that would be the end of it.
And, at this point, I’m not sure if I prefer how she actually died or not. Usually, I’m a fan of quick, unexpected character deaths. It’s more tragic in a realistic way. People die suddenly all the time and there’s no chance to say goodbye. To me, that’s far sadder than the tropey death where everyone has time to say what they need to.
But, if that’s the case, why am I conflicted about Riko’s death? Riko being assimilated into Tengen-sama would have been interesting. It’s a moral dilemma. Should cursed technique users be okay with sacrificing a young girl for the greater good?
