Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 33 Review

Versus Jougo and Hanami

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 33 was way better than Episode 32. We got the cool Gojou content I was looking forward to. But, unfortunately, it looks like we won’t get cool Gojou content again any time soon. As we saw, Gojou is sealed.

Before that happened, though, Gojou had a good fight against both Jougo and Hanami. Jougo is the volcano curse and Hanami is the plant curse. Also, Chousou was fighting alongside them. I think Gojou mentioned that Chousou isn’t a curse. So, I guess he’s an evil sorcerer?

Sorry, I don’t remember anything about Chousou — or even if we’ve met him before. But, it’s pretty obvious that his cursed technique allows him to manipulate blood. In that sense, he’s a male version of Power from Chainsaw Man. However, again, since he’s not a cursed spirit, he’s not as dangerous as Jougo and Hanami.

What made this fight so good was how Gojou went about it. He didn’t want to kill any of the humans on the train platform. So, he went on the offensive using martial arts. He stopped using his technique to protect himself and used it to go on the attack.

Gojou also called out Hanami as his first target, before focusing on Jougo. This led to Hanami believing Gojou’s declaration was a bluff. But, it wasn’t. Hanami really was Gojou’s first target. And, in the end, it looks like he was successful in exorcising Hanami.

Did Gojou actually exorcise Hanami, though? Jougo believes so. But, I wouldn’t be surprised if Hanami was still alive. Hanami’s a plant. So, it’s possible that they survived as a spore or seed and will show up again later in the series. Or, maybe that actually was the end of Hanami.

Infinite Void in Shibuya Station

The cursed spirits in the station were counting on Gojou not using his domain expansion. As usual, I don’t remember much about Gojou’s domain expansion. I know we’ve seen it before, though. And, I obviously saw him use it in this episode.

So, what does Gojou’s domain expansion do and why didn’t the curses think he’d use it? Well, first of all, it freezes time. That’s not good for the curses because it leaves them vulnerable to Gojou’s attacks. However, it’s also not good for any non-sorcerers caught up in it either.

Why is that? Well, we’re told that, in this instance, Gojou expanded his domain for 0.2 seconds. This is the amount of time he thought non-sorcerers would be able to survive. But, why wouldn’t they be able to survive time being frozen? That’s not quite clear.

We got a few numbers thrown at us in relation to Gojou’s use of his domain expansion. There are the 0.2 seconds it was active. There are the 299 seconds that passed for Gojou during that time. And, there are the 6 months of information that got pumped into the non-sorcerers’ brains.

The implication here is that the non-sorcerers could die from information overload. But, where did this 6-month figure come from? 6 months is very different than 0.2 seconds or even 299 seconds. I’m no mathematician. If you are, maybe you can calculate how we got that 6-month figure.

Anyway, when Gojou used his domain expansion, I thought that meant he was going to go all-out. I thought he chose exorcising the curses over saving the non-sorcerers around him. And, if he had, I wouldn’t blame him. In that instance, prioritizing the “greater good” made the most sense.

Gojou & the Prison Realm

Suguru Getou told Jougo and Hanami they had to keep Gojou distracted for 20 minutes. And, he also said that they needed to keep Gojou in one place for 1 minute to seal him. But, this can still be a bit confusing.

The 20-minute distraction was so the train full of transfigured humans could arrive. Well, it was for that and also so Jougo, Hanami, and Chousou could wear Gojou out a little bit. What about the 1 minute it takes to seal Gojou, though? When did that happen?

That 1 minute actually passed while Gojou was using his domain expansion. Getou mentions that the 1-minute time frame only has to pass from Gojou’s perspective. Yes, he only stopped time for 0.2 seconds. But for him, 299 seconds passed, remember? That’s almost 5 minutes. When Getou saw Gojou preparing to expand his domain, he tossed out the gate.

There are a few other things I want to quickly cover. The first is that the Suguru Getou we see here isn’t the same one from the first part of the season. This is some sort of brain curse that’s using Getou’s corpse as its body.

The second thing is that this brain curse doesn’t see Yuuta Okkotsu as a threat. If you don’t know who Yuuta Okkotsu is, go watch Jujutsu Kaisen 0. That movie will also explain to you why Suguru Getou is a corpse now.

And the final thing is that it looks like Mechamaru is alive, after all. I assumed he died in the fight against Mahito (and Getou) since he didn’t warn the sorcerers about the attack. But, a Mechamaru-like device appeared on Itadori’s ear at the end of the episode. And it told him that Gojou had been sealed.

Final Thoughts

What do you think of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 33? Do you think Hanami is gone for good? Or will they come back? Do you know where the 6-month figure came from in regard to Gojou’s domain expansion? And, how long do you think Gojou is going to be stuck in the Prison Realm?

For now, I’m going to predict that this wasn’t the last we’ve seen of Hanami. And, I assume if you use the 0.2-second and 299-second figures somehow, you’ll come up with about 6 months. As for how long the seal on Gojou is going to last, I’m not sure. The entire next season, maybe.
