Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 0

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 0

Guardian Fitz

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation is back with the first episode of Season 2. Yes, this is Season 2, not Season 3. The previous season had 2 parts that aired separately. Hopefully, that makes sense. But what might not make sense is that this is Episode 0, not Episode 1.

So, why are we starting with Episode 0? Well, the reason I’m calling it Episode 0 is because that’s what Crunchyroll is calling it. As for why they’re calling it Episode 0, my best guess is that it has to do with the content of the episode.

When I think of an Episode 0, a recap episode comes to mind. So, when I saw that this was Episode 0, I was worried. I thought it wasn’t going to actually contain new content. But, that’s not the case. Instead, it seems to be Episode 0 because it doesn’t follow the main character, Rudy.

If not Rudy, then who does this episode follow? It follows Sylphiette, also known as Sylphy. Though, in this episode, she goes by Fitz. Episode 0 tells the story of what happened to Sylphy after she got separated from Rudy due to the mana storm.

Sylphy ended up in the Asura Kingdom, saving a princess when she landed on a monster. As she was falling out of the sky, Sylphy broke her fall with some wind magic. And, for some reason, her hair also changed from green to white during this ordeal.

Princess Ariel Anemoi Asura then hired Sylphy to be one of her bodyguards. She gave Sylphy the new name Fitz and had her act as a man. This is likely because women can’t be knights, which is also why Sylphy doesn’t speak in public. And so, that’s how Sylphy became known as Silent Fitz.

Ariel Anemoi Asura Makes Her Move

At the start of this episode, Princess Ariel claimed to have no ambition. She’s completely content to sit around and drink tea for her whole life. After all, she has two brothers and a sister in line for the throne ahead of her.

Unless they all die, there doesn’t seem to be any chance that Ariel would ever become queen. And she doesn’t seem to want to kill her siblings, even if some of them are only half-siblings. However, this lack of ambition seems to be a facade.

In reality, Ariel has dreams of becoming Queen of the Asura Kingdom. And she’s not going to sit idly by and watch as those dreams slip from her grasp. But, as a princess, she can’t make her moves for the throne out in the open. She needs to be more discreet than that.

So, Ariel has begun gathering lords who are willing to ally with her. And thanks to her popularity, she has also been able to win the hearts of the population. If some tragedy were to befall the kingdom and a coup ensued, she would be in the perfect position to take the throne.

Ariel’s ambition doesn’t only appear to be limited to politics, either. She used lies and threats to coerce Sylphy into staying by her side. And it looks like she had more than one reason for doing so. Sure, Sylphy proved herself to be a powerful bodyguard. But, that’s not all.

It would seem that Ariel is also sexually attracted to Sylphy. Nothing came of her confession in this episode. But, maybe something will happen in the future. I, for one, wouldn’t be opposed to having a yuri relationship in the series. As we all know, yuri is the purest form of love.

The Night-Eyed Hawk Strikes

After Ariel and Sylphy went to bed together, an intruder appeared at the end of the bed. This intruder was none other than the Night-Eyed Hawk! Apparently, she’s an infamous assassin who has already killed multiple nobles. And she now has her night eyes set on Princess Ariel.

Of course, it’s not a coincidence that this assassin showed up after Ariel began making moves. It was none other than her older brother, Grabel, who made the call. It’s unclear if Grabel is Ariel’s eldest brother or second in line for the throne. But, either way, he holds a higher position than Ariel.

It’s also clear that Grabel despises Ariel for being the daughter of the queen. Grabel might have a better claim to the throne as a son of the king. But, he’s also the son of a concubine, not the queen.

Of course, Grabel’s dislike of Ariel isn’t enough of a reason to have her assassinated. The real reason an assassin was sent after her is that she’s a political threat. You know, because of the whole potential coup thing I mentioned earlier. Most of the population wouldn’t object to Ariel being the queen over Grabel being the king.

As for Night-Eyed Hawk, she’s employed (or even owned) by a noble connected to Grabel. This noble appears to be Grabel’s right-hand man. And while these two men were discussing Ariel, Night-Eyed Hawk was sitting on the noble’s lap.

Obviously, there are going to be those who take issue with Night-Eyed Hawk’s appearance. I get it, she’s a petite girl who’s wearing almost nothing. But, her outfit aside, I actually like her character design. I don’t think Sylphy killed her. So, my hope is that we’ll get to see more of her later in the series.

Conclusion

What do you think of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 0? Did you prefer that this episode didn’t include Rudy at all? Do you think Ariel is actually attracted to Sylphy, or was she only joking? And how do you feel about Night-Eyes Hawk? Let me know in the comments.
