Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead Episode 3 Review

More Things That Don’t Make Sense

We’re 3 episodes into Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead, and it feels like I’m not enjoying it as much as everyone else. I think it’s a fine anime, so far. But, I wouldn’t even call it good, let alone one of the best things airing.

That’s how it seems other people feel about it, though. And if that’s you, explain to me why you like this series so much in the comments. For me, there’s just not all that much going on in the series.

And since there’s not much going on, it’s been hard for me to ignore the little inconsistencies. For example, in Episode 1 I mentioned how it doesn’t make sense for Akira to be fine. Other people who we know were alone at the time of the apocalypse weren’t fine. So, why Akira?

We might get an answer to that question later on. But, Episode 3 had me thinking about it again. Kencho was in a love hotel when the apocalypse struck. And while he’s fine, the same can’t be said for the woman he was with. She’s a zombie now. So, why only her and not Kencho?

However, there was one minor detail in Episode 3 that I can’t stop thinking about. When the internet “comes back on,” what were the messages Akira received? Akira received two messages when that happened. But, we don’t actually know if he checked those messages.

He never says anything about them. We see him responding to some messages. But, his responses don’t imply those are the new messages.

Shouldn’t those messages be pretty important? They would have had to have been sent to him after the apocalypse. And yet, that fact doesn’t come up at all.

Akira and Kencho: Best Buds

I’m afraid I need to tell you something you might not like about Kencho. His name isn’t actually Kencho. Kencho is short for Kenichirou. I know, I was disappointed when I found out, too. But, together we’ll get through this.

Now, the other thing I noticed about Kencho is that he has blonde hair in the OP and ED. But, in this episode, his hair is black. So, the obvious answer to this mystery is that dying his hair is on his bucket list. But, why does that matter?

It matters because it seems like we won’t only be focusing on Akira’s bucket list. The other three characters are also going to have things they want to do. Of course, we also could have assumed that from the end of the episode. Kencho revealed that he wants to be a stand-up comic.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to the bromance between Akira and Kencho. That has the potential to be one of the more entertaining parts of the series if done well. Itadori and Tendou in Jujutsu Kaisen is an example of that. But, it’s also pretty easy to mess it up.

So far, I’m not entirely convinced that Kencho’s character is going to have enough going on. Based on what we saw and what Akira said about him, he seems to only have one type of joke. He strips. And I can’t say I find that funny.

If all the interactions between those two have to do with stripping gags, that’s going to get old fast. For now, though, I’m cautiously optimistic. And, once we have the full gang together, that might help Kencho’s character. He may be able to bounce off the others in different ways.

Kenichirou the Stand-Up Comic

I already mentioned how Kencho wants to be a stand-up comic. But, will we see him achieve his dream any time soon? My guess is no. He wants to perform comedy on a stage. And, at some point, I think he’ll get to do that.

However, I don’t expect that to be a near-term bucket list item. And when it finally does happen, I expect there to be some kind of twist. For example, everyone in the audience might be zombies. But, even if that’s the case, it will likely count for Kencho’s bucket list.

It seems like completing bucket list items isn’t that hard. For example, despite not growing a good beard, Akira crosses that off his list. But, did you notice the list item right above that one? It said Akira wants to “wine and dine a flight attendant.”

Did you also notice what the title of the next episode is? It’s “Flight Attendant of the Dead.” And, I’m going to make the bold prediction that Shizuka from Episode 2 isn’t a flight attendant. So, that means we should be meeting our final main character next week.

Of all the main characters, this last one is the one I’m most excited about. She has a ponytail, which is always a good sign. She seems like she’s fun. And, most important of all, she wears samurai armor in the ED. Kencho has the potential to end up boring. But, I can’t see that happening with this girl.

I also assume this means the new girl will be joining the gang before Shizuka. Surely she’s not going to run into Akira and Kencho and then go her separate way at first. With Shizuka, I get it. But, this new girl will stick around.

Conclusion
