Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Episode 250

Funato Coup

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations has finally hit 250 episodes. That’s 30 more episodes than the original Naruto series. And it’s half of the episodes Naruto: Shippūden has. Will Boruto end up being longer than Shippūden? Based on how far we are in the story, my bet is yes.

In this episode, we see the Funato clan begin to fracture into two factions. On one side is Araumi, the leader of the clan. And on the other is Isari, Araumi’s eldest son who led the clan while Araumi was in prison.

If you had to side with one of them, who would you choose? I’m on Isari’s side for a few reasons. First of all, Isari understands that the Funato can’t defeat the Hidden Mist head-on. They’re outnumbered and don’t have the same combat experience. That’s why he was relying on sneak attacks to disrupt the Hidden Mist’s forces.

Second of all, Isari has come to the very reasonable conclusion that they should seek peace. Since they can’t win a war, the best option for the Funato is to go to the bargaining table. The Funato control the sea, and so they should be able to strike a favorable deal.

And third of all, it turns out that Araumi is insane. He’s living in the past and only cares about avenging those who have died. Araumi cares more about his wife who died 10+ years ago than the men he’s getting killed for his war today.

Something else we learned is that Isari’s harpoon (I called it a spear before) was a gift from Araumi. That’s important because it’s a living weapon and still responds to Araumi. This is like when Samehada mourned Kisame’s death despite Killer B being its new wielder.

I’ll Never Forgive Boruto Uzumaki

If we’re going by the chronological order of events, Boruto Episode 250 comes before 249. But, I’d argue it makes more sense for Episode 249 to come first. The events of Episode 249 have more impact when we don’t already know who Kobuna is.

This time around, we see Kobuna’s perspective of the events leading up to the end of Episode 249. Now, I don’t know if Kobuna will be important in the future of this arc. I suspect that he won’t be considering he’s still a child.

But, that doesn’t mean these past two episodes with him were unnecessary. Kobuna is an important aspect of Ikada’s development. He exemplifies what a child growing up within the Funato clan should be like. And, as we saw, not being who his family expects him to be is something that weighs on Ikada.

Something new we learned is that the mark the Funato soldiers have on their heads is a tattoo. That may have been obvious to some of you. But, there are many characters in this series who wear face paint. So, until we got confirmation, we didn’t know for sure.

The fact that it’s a tattoo, though, makes it a bigger deal for Kobuna to have it. After Funamushi’s death, Kobuna got the tattoo to show his commitment to his revenge. Also, the type of tattoo Kobuna got is a bamboo tattoo. That’s supposed to be one of the most painful kinds to get.

Now, as I’ll discuss in the next section, Ikada has also finally joined the cycle of vengeance. But, I don’t expect him to get a tattoo like Kobuna. Araumi, Isari, and Seiren didn’t have these tattoos. It seems that only the followers (and Tenma) did.

R.I.P. Seiren

It’s once again time to explain why Boruto isn’t at fault for Seiren’s death. For starters, Kagura was the one who attacked her with his sword. Boruto had nothing to do with that. And, we now know that Seiren actually survived this attack and was recovering.

Based on what we saw in the episode, I’d say that Seiren died due to her own actions. If she stayed in bed and rested as Ikada told her to, her wounds wouldn’t have reopened. She could have made a full recovery with time. But, as a devout member of the Funato clan, she couldn’t sit still while others were fighting.

Yes, that’s right. I’m blaming the victim here and I’m not sorry about it. If you’re recovering in the hospital and you do the opposite of what the doctor recommends, that’s on you. But, either way, Kagura is already dead too.

I wasn’t expecting Seiren to die. In my mind, since she was in the hospital, she was already out of the picture. But, it does make sense for her to need to die to push Ikada into the conflict. Also, I can’t say that I expected some of the other deaths in this arc either.

Kagura’s death came as a surprise to me. Tenma’s death didn’t have much build-up to it at all, so that was surprising too. But, Funamushi’s death was a 50/50 in my mind. And there was foreshadowing leading up to Hebiichigo’s death for weeks.

I do feel bad for Ikada, though. Not because his older sister died. Instead, it’s because she invalidated who he is as a person with her dying words. That’s going to do some serious mental damage to Ikada. I’m looking forward to seeing how this affects him.
