Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 8

Irumyuui’s Wish

Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 8 was definitely something. It confirmed some of my theories. But, it also disproved others. The biggest theory it disproved was that Irumyuui and Faputa are one and the same — they are not.

I’ll get into Faputa more later on. For now, let’s start with something I did correctly predict. In fairness, this seemed pretty obvious. But, as expected, Wazukyan healed his sick followers by feeding them Irumyuui’s offspring. We don’t know why this worked and I’m sure we never will.

What’s important to note from this is that saving the Ganja Party wasn’t Irumyuui’s wish. Irumyuui’s wish was either to be a mother or to have babies. Wazukyan took Irumyuui’s wish away from her to save his followers. Then, once Irumyuui could no longer communicate, he forced his own wish on her.

Vueko seeing Irumyuui's new form after recovering from her illness from the anime series Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 8
Vueko seeing Irumyuui’s new form after recovering from her illness

It’s not explicitly stated that Wazukyan forced his wish on Irumyuui. But, it’s implied. The first piece of evidence for this is that Wazukyan gave Irumyuui a second (and third) Cradle of Desire. He says he did this to keep Irumyuui alive and producing offspring when she was dying.

The second piece of evidence is that Wazukyan used a Cradle of Desire himself. To me, this means that he made a wish using the egg and then implanted the egg into Irumyuui. This first wish would have been for her to continue living and producing children.

Finally, Irumyuui herself becomes the city of Iruburu. We know this isn’t what she wanted, hence why Faputa was born. But, we also know it’s something Wazukyan wanted. So, I’m guessing the third Cradle of Desire was what led to this final outcome. It was all Wazukyan.

Final Pilgrimage of the Ganja Party

Once she becomes large enough, Irumyuui seeks out her final resting place. She heads toward the center of the Abyss and the Ganja Party follows her as their Queen. Once she reaches her desired location, she becomes what we know as Iruburu.

This final transformation of Irumyuui explains a lot of things. We now know how the Ganja Party became Hollows. We know why they can’t leave Iruburu (though, we technically knew this already). And we know what the creatures that carry out the Balancing are.

All three of these things work together to create the full picture of Iruburu and its residents. When someone enters Irumyuui’s body and gives up on their goals and dreams, they get Balanced. Their dreams and their body get turned into value and all that remains is a Hollow.

A flying beast grabbing Eilu from the anime series Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 8
A flying beast grabbing Eilu

Once the Balancing occurs, the Hollow can no longer leave Iruburu. They paid their value to live there forever. And speaking of the Balancing, the creatures that perform this are part of Irumyuui. They’re the souls of all her children that died or never had the chance to be born.

Now, that’s all great information to have. But, I know the question you’re really here to have answered. What happened to Vueko’s lover?

You may have glossed over this line from Episode 7‘s review, but I mentioned that Vueko is a lesbian. The anime cut a panel from chapter 49 of the manga that shows her having sex with a female member of the Ganja Party.

Well, when the flying beast killed Eilu, I first thought Eilu was the girl Vueko had sex with. Luckily for Vueko, that’s not the case. Unluckily, her girlfriend is now a pink cyclops living in Iruburu. This episode shows us her Hollow form.

The Birth of Faputa

Okay, so we now know that Irumyuui and Faputa aren’t the same person. To some of you, that may have always seemed obvious because they have different names. But, the fact that they have different names doesn’t have to mean they’re different people.

In the time since the Ganja Party first arrived in the Sixth Layer, they’ve developed a new language. Most of the Hollows don’t speak human languages anymore. So, it would have made sense if Faputa was Irumyuui’s new name in this new language developed by the Hollows.

Anyway, none of that matters now. What matters is that Faputa is Irumyuui’s last child, her only child to survive, and her vector for revenge. Faputa was born for one reason: To destroy Iruburu and kill those who stole Irumyuui’s wish from her. I wonder if the Hollows know all this. They refer to her as their princess.

Faputa hatching from her egg from the anime series Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 8
Faputa hatching from her egg

So, what about Faputa’s promise with Reg? Well, Faputa is unable to cross through the barrier to get into Iruburu. Reg, however, can cross through the barrier. So, their deal seems to be for Reg to either destroy Iruburu or destroy the barrier so Faputa can enter.

Jumping back to the start of the episode, there’s one thing I don’t understand. Faputa tears off a piece of herself as payment to get Reg’s help. We see that her ear is torn off. But, she’s holding a torn-off arm in her hands. Did anyone else find this odd? Maybe I misunderstood what I saw.

And, to close out this section, let’s take a look at something Vueko says about Faputa. She says she hopes Faputa can find her own wish and set out on a joyful journey. Is Faputa joining Team Riko?

Conclusion

What do you think of Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 8? Did Wazukyan really use a wish to force Irumyuui into becoming Iruburu? Was Eilu your favorite Ganja Party member? And do you think Faputa will join Riko’s party? Let me know in the comments.

Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 7

Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 7

An Outbreak in the Sixth Layer

The entirety of Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 7 took place in the past. We rejoin the Ganja Party as they attempt to survive in the Sixth Layer of the Abyss. And, as you might expect, it’s not easy.

Finding food through hunting, gathering, or agriculture isn’t too difficult. But, finding a clean source of water is another story. Of the five known watering holes in the Sixth Layer, only one seems like a viable option. The others are either too dangerous or impossible to reach.

Unfortunately, this watering hole isn’t as safe as it initially seemed. At first glance, the water looked and smelled clean. And to be safe, the Ganja Party still boiled it before drinking (good idea). But, this is water found within the Sixth Layer. You should never assume anything here is safe.

A watering hole in the Sixth Layer from the anime series Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 7
A watering hole in the Sixth Layer

Even after boiling, the water contained parasites. These parasites laid eggs within the bodies of everyone who drank the water. The parasite infestation came with severe symptoms, including fever and diarrhea. And it’s thanks to the diarrhea that Vueko was able to determine the source of the illness.

The symptoms don’t stop there, though. Eventually, the bodies of the infected begin to melt and resolidify, killing them. Why does nothing in the Abyss cause a quick and painless death? From Orb Piercers to Amaranthine-Deceptors to these parasites, everything causes a terrible death.

Something I found very interesting, though, was that we got to see the full lifecycle of the parasites. When she was on the brink of death, all Vueko could think about was water. This seems to imply the host creatures search out water in their last moments. And when they die by the water, the cycle begins again.

Cradle of Desire: The Wish-Granting Egg

Relics aren’t explained all that much in this series. That could simply be because nobody knows much about them. But, we’ve come across quite a few relics to date. The most recent of these is the Cradle of Desire, also called the Wish-Granting Egg.

The Ganja Party’s food survey team brought the egg back to base and died shortly after. Their bodies turned tree-like, from what we see. And when asked, while the Interference Units don’t know where the Egg comes from, they know what it is.

According to their explanation, it’s a powerful relic that grants wishes. Or, at least, it grants wishes if it doesn’t kill you first. Touching it directly can cause it to “swallow you up” and dissipate your wish. If this happens, you die like the ones who found it.

Wazukyan showing a relic to the Interference Units

The fact that the Egg can kill you by erasing your wish isn’t the scariest thing about it, though. So what? As I mentioned, everything in the Abyss wants to kill you in a horrible way. What makes the Egg scary is how it works and the wording the Interference Units use to explain it.

Let’s start with the way it’s explained before moving on to how it works in the next section.

So, the Egg is less effective if used by an adult. My immediate thought was that this could be because the wishes of children are much more vivid. That’s not quite right.

Instead, the Interference Units say that “[t]he fear felt by a juvenile is much closer to the origin.” The origin of what, exactly? And why is fear the thing that powers the Egg? That has to be one of the most ominous and terrifying things said in the series so far.

Irumyuui’s Children

In an attempt to save Irumyuui’s life, Vueko has her use the Egg. This works, but it also begins turning Irumyuui into a Hollow. I guess this means that the Egg has a high concentration of the curse of the Abyss within it.

Anyway, from what we see, it seems that the Egg grants wishes as the user understands them. If I wished for a computer and thought electronics were magic, I’d get a computer that runs on magic. That’s how I interpret what happens to Irumyuui next.

Irumyuui is sad because her family banished her for not being able to have children. So, she wishes to have children of her own. But, she doesn’t understand how that works or what it really means. So, the Egg grants her wish as she understands it. A baby creature comes out of her body.

Irumyuui and her firstborn child from the anime series Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 7
Irumyuui and her firstborn child

This baby creature looks a lot like the rabbit creature Irumyuui thought was cute. But, it doesn’t have any way to eat because that’s not something a child would think of. And so, the baby creature dies within the day. And the same happens to the other baby creatures she continues to birth.

Now, something that didn’t make sense to me, at first, was when Vueko said she can’t have children either. But, the manga actually explains this. In chapter 49, she says she can’t have kids due to the physical trauma she received when she was younger. Also, the manga reveals that Vueko is a lesbian.

At the end of the episode, Wazukyan heals all the sick members of the Ganja Party by feeding them something. My guess is that he fed them Irumyuui’s children. He could have meant he fed Irumyuui to everyone. But, I still think she becomes Faputa.

Conclusion

How do you feel about Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 7? What creature of the Abyss would you least want to be killed by? What do you think the Interference Units meant by the fear of juveniles being closer to the origin? And, do you think eating Irumyuui’s children is what turns the Ganja Party into Hollows?

Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 6

Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 6

The Luring Is Not What it Seemed

Made in Abyss: The Golden City in the Scorching Sun Episode 6 featured the Luring. Based on what the Balancing was, I assumed the Luring was some inherent feature of Iruburu. But, that’s not the case. And, to be fair, we still don’t actually know what the Balancing is.

Yes, we know how the Balancing works. I explained it in my review of Episode 3. But, once we saw the Balancing “creatures” in the prison with Vueko, that changed things. It made the Balancing less of a fundamental rule and more of a product of the world.

But, anyway, the Luring is the name the Hollows give to their hunting “expeditions.” Other than Faputa, none of the village Hollows can leave Iruburu. And we can assume not too many cave raiders show up in the village. So, the Luring is how the Hollows bring in new value.

Maaa, Vueko, Riko, and Majikaja from the anime series Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 6
Maaa, Vueko, Riko, and Majikaja

They lure creatures from the Sixth Layer into Iruburu and hunt them, hence the name the Luring. The remains of the creatures they lure into the village then become value within the village. The problem is that the Hollows can’t always handle what they lure in.

This time, a mysterious creature makes its way into the village. Majikaja recognizes it as one that’s been there before. But, he says it’s much larger this time. And, as we see, it now has a taste for Hollows. It would seem the hunters have become the hunted.

What I find interesting about the Luring, though, is how unprepared the Hollows seemed. Sure, the creature that showed up this time wasn’t what they expected. But, their weapons didn’t seem very capable of bringing down large creatures. Am I supposed to believe they could take down a Turbinid-Dragon? I don’t see it happening.

One Good Deed for Another

I was pretty surprised to see Majikaja stop Riko from giving up her value for Nanachi. You could argue he did that because he wanted her value. But, that’s not how it came across to me. It seemed like he actually cared about what it would mean for her journey.

Unfortunately, if Riko doesn’t provide Belaf with enough value, she can’t save Nanachi. But, in last week’s review of Episode 5, I suggested some alternative trades. For example, Maaa or Vueko could give themself to Belaf. Vueko makes a bit more sense here since she’s still a human.

With that said, there’s another option now. As the creature attacked Iruburu, Riko decided to help defend the village. To do this, she had to trade some of her value. She gave some of her hair to Majikaja. And in return, Majikaja changed his form to suit the fight they were about to have.

Majikaja and Riko from the anime series Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 6
Majikaja and Riko

Together, Riko, Majikaja, some other Hollows, and Reg were able to take down the creature. And afterward, when asked by Moogie, Riko said she did it because good deeds have a way of coming full circle. Riko did a good deed today, and in the future, she’ll be on the receiving end of one.

This is where the other option in dealing with Belaf comes in. Riko saved the village from potential destruction. She can, therefore, claim that without her help, Belaf would have lost his value. That seems like bargaining leverage to me.

Also, since all transactions in Iruburu are overseen by the Balancing, Belaf may not have a say in this. If the Balancing agrees that without Riko, Belaf would have lost his value, he can’t argue with that. He doesn’t have to accept the trade. But, he couldn’t ask for more.

Reg’s Awakened Form

It only took half the season, but Prushka now looks as she does in the OP. And, unfortunately, the author even had to make this part weird. After handing Prushka over to Riko, he comments that he climaxed after sculpting her. Why are you like this, Akihito Tsukushi?

Anyway, now that she’s sculpted, Prushka reveals her true power. And it turns out that her true power is to bring out the true power of Reg. When Riko blows into Prushka (it’s not weird, I swear), it summons Reg in a new form.

I’m going to call this form of Reg’s his “awakened form.” He said that he suddenly understood things when he heard Prushka’s call and knew Riko needed his help. He didn’t remember who he was in the past, though. It sucks that his newfound understanding of things is selective like that.

Reg's awakened form from the anime series Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 6
Reg’s awakened form

I’m not a huge fan of Reg’s new form — appearance-wise. I much prefer the blue-grey metal of his normal appearance over the white metal of his awakened form. I’m sure part of it is that I’m not used to this new appearance. But, more than just the color of his metal changed.

Something I noticed is that not only is his metal now much lighter, but his skin is darker. At first, I thought his skin only appeared darker because of the contrast with the white metal. But, after doing a side-by-side comparison, that’s not the case.

It’s possible that he’d look worse with his usual lighter skin and the white metal. But, because his skin is darker in his awakened form, that only serves to make the white metal stand out more. Maybe if the red of his cape and the markings on his face also changed, I’d like it.

Conclusion

What do you think of Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 6? Did you expect the Luring to be something else? Do you like Riko more with long or short hair? And, what are your thoughts on Reg’s awakened form? Let me know in the comments.

Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 5

Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 5

Interference Units

Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 5 was excellent. This episode built up the mystery surrounding the Village of the Hollows. And, speaking of the Village of the Hollows, I’ll be calling it Iruburu from now on.

In the first part of the episode, we learn some things about Reg. The robot seen earlier in the arc with Faputa saves Reg from a Turbinid-Dragon. Afterward, we discover that this robot is an Interference Unit and that it can speak. Once Reg learns this, he asks the Interference Unit about his own origins.

Unfortunately, the Interference Unit doesn’t know what Reg is or where he’s from. But, that in itself is valuable information. According to the Interference Unit, Interference Units don’t travel between layers. They’re assigned to a specific layer and they stay there. Since Reg travels between layers, it’s implied he’s something different.

The Interference Unit and Reg from the anime series Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 5
The Interference Unit and Reg

Now, the information we’re given about Interference Units is also interesting. Every layer (allegedly) has at least one of these units. I’m going to bet that more than one is the norm. After all, we saw that four Interference Units met the Ganja Party upon their arrival in the Sixth Layer.

If that’s the case, why is this the first time we’re seeing one? There could be many reasons. Even if we look at the Sixth Layer, only one of the four Interference Units remains. And we saw what appeared to be the remnants of a destroyed unit. So, they’re not indestructible.

With that said, I doubt the upper layers are dangerous to the point that no units would survive. My theory is that cave raiders got to them. Bondrewd has a lot of advanced technology. How do you think he obtained or developed all that?

The Prisoner of Iruburu

Below Iruburu is a strange area that serves as a prison. This is where the creatures responsible for the Balancing live. And, it’s where Riko finds a still human Vueko of the Ganja Party chained up. We don’t know how long she’s been alone down here. But, it’s probably been decades.

In my Episode 1 review, I theorized about how Vueko could still be alive by the time Riko gets to the Sixth Layer. When Vueko descended into the Abyss, the town of Orth didn’t exist. So, we know she’s been down there for a long time.

But, we were also told that time doesn’t flow the same in the Abyss as on the surface. If time flows slower the farther down you go, then Vueko still being alive makes sense. She’s not a Hollow, so we can’t attribute it to that.

Vueko imprisoned beneath Iruburu from the anime series Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 5
Vueko imprisoned beneath Iruburu

Something I’m curious about is why Hollows can’t normally reach Vueko’s prison. We know that the curse of the Abyss isn’t present there, much like in the rest of Iruburu. But, we’re told that Hollows who attempt to go down there suffer from effects that appear like the curse.

Maaa was able to reach the bottom of the pit where Vueko is. So, it’s not impossible. But, it’s clear that Maaa was forcing themself to go down there for Riko’s sake. The effect wasn’t that bad. But, it did look to me like the effect of ascending from the Second Layer or so.

Now, my question is, is the surface dangerous to Hollows? Humans can descend into the Abyss fine. It’s ascending in the Abyss that hurts them. Let’s say Iruburu is like a pocket of “surface” in the Abyss. Could it be that Hollows can ascend on the surface, but not descend?

A Real Immortal

We finally have confirmation that Bondrewd has indeed been to the Sixth Layer. In fact, Belaf tells us that Bondrewd visited Iruburu on many occasions. I wonder if he stopped at the Sixth Layer or went further down. As far as we know, he could have been to the bottom and returned.

Bondrewd could actually be the most successful cave raider in the history of the Abyss. Yes, there are White Whistles farther down than him currently. But he has the power to go down and return. Nobody else has that.

And on top of that, we already know Bondrewd is pretty much immortal. Bondrewd isn’t a single person. He’s more of a consciousness that can move from body to body. So, out of everyone we know of in the series, he could be the one with all the answers.

Belaf attempting to get Bondrewd to sell Mitty from the anime series Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 5
Belaf attempting to get Bondrewd to sell Mitty

The thing about Bondrewd, though, is that he’s not a real immortal. His immortality is the result of a relic or something — Abyss technology. But, we know of two real immortals. The first is Faputa, whom Majikaja says is immortal. The second is Mitty, whom Belaf says is immortal.

Something important to note here is that the Mitty in Iruburu isn’t the real Mitty. Reg incinerated the real Mitty (she can be killed, but is immortal otherwise). The Mitty we see in this episode is a copy Belaf had the Abyss create by paying for it in value.

What I find strange about this is that for the price of parts of his body, Belaf was able to buy an immortal being. That doesn’t seem like a very fair trade. But, I guess he’s not buying immortality for himself. So, maybe it is fair. Still, it’s interesting to think about.

Riko’s Value

Before I get to the conclusion, I need to do some theorizing about Riko’s value. Nanachi sold herself to Belaf to stop him from feeding on the immortal Mitty. But, since Nanachi and Mitty are both stuck there forever now, it seems like Nanachi got scammed.

To save Nanachi, Riko offers to buy her from Belaf. Her offer is her hair, the nails from one of her hands, and all her gear. But, Belaf says he needs more than that. And he gives Riko three options.

On top of what she offered, Belaf wants one of the following. Riko can give both of her eyes, both of her legs, or half of her innards. None of those seem like particularly good things for Riko to sell. But, we can assume that she completes the transaction. How? In the OP, we see Riko without her pigtails.

Riko listening to Belaf's demands from the anime series Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 5
Riko listening to Belaf’s demands

Since she’s missing her pigtails, we can assume she lost them due to this transaction. Notably, she isn’t missing her eyes in the OP. So, we can also assume she doesn’t choose to sell those. That leaves her legs or half her innards.

If I had to choose between the two, I’d say she sells half her innards. Why? Because that isn’t a drastic change to her character design. I’m thinking of it from that standpoint. That’s also why I know Riko will rescue Nanachi. The author of the series is obsessed with Nanachi; he’s not going to leave her behind.

Alternatively, I could see Riko not giving Belaf what he requested. Someone else could step in on her behalf. For example, Maaa could sell themself to Belaf. Or, it could even be Vueko. What other role would she play now that Riko released her?

Conclusion

What do you think of Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 5? What do you think happened to the other Interference Units? Why do you think Hollows have trouble descending to Vueko’s prison? How deep do you think Bondrewd has been? And how do you think the trade between Riko and Belaf will play out?

Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 4

Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 4

Faputa’s Reg

Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 4 wasn’t a great episode. But, it was still good. And what made it good is that it had a lot of twists. One of these twists is that Faputa and Reg used to be friends.

Unfortunately, this revelation didn’t lead to any other information about Reg’s past. Reg should have pressed Faputa more for answers instead of running away. But, I’m going to guess that Reg wasn’t originally “Faputa’s” as she claims. My bet is that he came from deeper within the Abyss.

From what I remember, Riko received her mother’s letter from Reg. That implies that Lyza sent Reg to the surface to contact Riko. But, a page from this letter is within the Hollow’s Village. Why would it still be there if that’s where the letter originated? It doesn’t make sense.

Faputa the Hollow from the anime series Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 4
Faputa the Hollow

Instead, my theory is that Reg stopped in the Hollow’s Village as he ascended the Abyss. It’s during this stop that he became friends with Faputa and lost the page. But, why would he stop there? And why would he have lost his memories of his time there?

That could be an effect of the Abyss. Reg isn’t human, so the Abyss’ curse doesn’t physically harm him, kill him, or turn him into a Hollow. But, he’s still sentient. So, ascending in the Abyss may harm him by destroying his memories. It’s possible that by the time he got to the Hollow’s Village, he no longer remembered his original mission.

I also want to point out that Reg confirmed Faputa as a Hollow. She may still be immortal somehow. But, she’s a Hollow, which means she was once human. And I have a feeling I know which human she was.

Horror of the Hollow Village

After witnessing the balancing in action, I didn’t expect to see criminals in the village. As far as we know, the balancing is absolute. And harming another person, especially a human, seems like it would always trigger it. So, why would Hollows risk going after Riko?

My guess is that they’ve been Hollows for so long that they’ve lost their humanity. To the Hollows of the village, their bodies and lives may seem worthless. But, that’s not the case for a human — especially one like Riko who can’t afford to die just yet.

This episode also included two firsts in relation to Hollows. This was the first time Riko felt scared of them. And this was the first time that they actually posed a threat to her. Maaa hurt Meinya in Episode 3, but that didn’t appear to be a malicious act.

Hollows from Riko's perspective from the anime series Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 4
Hollows from Riko’s perspective

Over the course of the series, we’ve seen that Riko is a unique girl. Her determination to descend into the depths of the Abyss makes her unique on its own. But, she’s also capable of befriending the monstrous Hollows that live there. This doesn’t seem normal.

To be fair, anyone determined to explore the depths of the Abyss is probably as unique as Riko. But, that doesn’t mean most cave raiders who reach the Sixth Layer would be as friendly as Riko. Riko has the benefit of knowing Nanachi — she knows Hollows aren’t dangerous by nature.

So, when Riko sees the Hollows of the village as monsters for a moment, that could be what most people see. Most others who reach this depth likely view the Hollows as scary monsters. And that could be especially true if they don’t meet a Hollow who can speak their language.

Fate of the Ganja Party

The biggest reveal of the episode is that the Ganja Party is still alive. Mitty is also still alive. But, at this point, I don’t have anything to say about that. So, the Ganja Party is what I want to discuss now.

I theorized that they were the ones who founded the Village of the Hollows, and that seems to be correct. We now know for a fact that both Belaf and Wazukyan are living in the village. Nanachi has gone to visit Belaf (and Mitty) and Riko happened to be eating in the same restaurant as Wazukyan.

Of course, both Belaf and Wazykyan are now Hollows. And while it’s unclear if Belaf can speak human languages, we’re told Wazukyan can. Unfortunately, we don’t yet know why some Hollows can still communicate with Humans. Maybe it has something to do with having a strong will.

Wazukyan the Hollow from the anime series Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 4
Wazukyan the Hollow

At the end of the episode, we also saw a shot of Vueko. Based on what we saw, she does not appear to be a Hollow. And it even looks like she could be the one behind the balancing in the village. I’m interested to find out more about that.

But, while Belaf, Wazukyan, and Vueko are the “three sages” of the Ganja Party, there’s someone else I need to mention. Who else entered the Abyss with the Ganja Party? The unnamed native girl. And from what we saw, she did make it to the Sixth Layer.

So, where is she now?

As you may have figured out, my prediction is that Faputa is this native girl. The girl was important enough to introduce earlier in the series. And now she’s missing, but Faputa exists. So, it seems clear to me that they’re one and the same.

Conclusion

What do you think about Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Episode 4? How do you feel about my theory about the Abyss’ effect on Reg is correct?
