Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead Episode 6 Review

RV of the Dead

Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead Episode 6 is here after yet another one-week break. I haven’t been enjoying this series as much as I thought I would when it first started. And these breaks aren’t doing the series any favors.

Once again, I was hoping that the blonde girl from the OP and ED would finally make an appearance. And once again, I was disappointed when that didn’t happen. But, surely it will be soon. Though, I have a feeling it won’t be in next week’s episode, either.

Anyway, Akira and Kencho’s group did grow this week. They actually got two new additions; Suzuka and a brand-new RV joined the group. It only took running into her three times, but Akira finally got Shizuka to agree to group up with him (and Kencho). However, it was more Kencho than Akira who did the convincing.

Since Akira and Kencho plan to travel to Gunma, they decided that there’s only one way to do it: In an RV. Apparently, riding in an RV was something Akira put on his bucket list. And, as he rightfully points out, it’s actually one of the safer ways to travel in a zombie apocalypse.

If the trip turns out to be longer than expected, they’ll have to spend the night somewhere. So, rather than searching for shelter, why not bring their own shelter with them? And, as a bonus, an RV provides a more comfortable ride than a motorcycle.

As we saw, Shizuka had the same idea as Akira. Though, we can be pretty sure she was thinking more about the logical side than Akira was. Yes, Akira knows an RV is a safe mode of transportation. But, the biggest draw to an RV for him is the cool factor.

Traveling with Shizuka

So, how did Kencho (and Akira) convince Shizuka to travel with them? It all came down to the fact that Shizuka doesn’t have a driver’s license. But, should that really matter? After all, they’re in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. Do the laws of the road matter?

According to Shizuka, the law doesn’t matter because this is an emergency. Her survival comes before all else. But, Kencho turns this around on her by pointing out her lack of experience. If she doesn’t have a license, isn’t it dangerous for her to be driving?

She could easily crash the RV or whatever other vehicle she’s driving. And if she does that, it could lead to her being stuck in a dangerous situation, or worse. And, as someone who’s always talking about risk analysis, Shizuka didn’t have a comeback. She couldn’t talk her way out of that logic.

If Shizuka doesn’t have a license, though, then how old is she? The legal driving age in Japan for a normal vehicle is 18. So, does that mean Shizuka is a minor? After all, I don’t believe we know if she had a job before the apocalypse, either.

It’s possible that Shizuka is still a high school student. And, that would make her quite a bit younger than Akira. We know Akira is a college graduate who also worked for a company for a few years. From what I remember, he had his job for two or three years before the apocalypse.

That would put Akira and Kencho around 25 years old. So, are these two about eight years older than Shizuka? Or, does she not have her license for some other reason? The fact that Kencho even asks her seems to imply he thinks she looks young.

Black Company Part 2

On their way to Gunma, our trio runs over a spike strip laid out on the highway. This caused Kencho to crash the motorcycle and also flattened all four of the RV’s tires. But, that wasn’t the worst part of it. The spike strip wasn’t there by accident.

Akira, Kencho, and Shizuka drove right into a trap laid by Akira’s former manager. Not the one who turned into a zombie in Episode 1. That was the CEO or something. This guy was Akira’s direct manager who made his work life hell.

In order to be allowed through, and to fix up the RV and Kencho, Akira has to work for his former manager again. And, while their deal is for Akira to only work for two days, Shizuka has a feeling that was a lie. Surely, Akira’s manager is going to try to manipulate him into working more.

All of that doesn’t really interest me, though. What interests me is how Akira’s former manager uses zombies to his advantage. We actually see him do this in two ways. The first is by using them as part of his trap.

Flattening the tires of vehicles on the highway is only the first step. After this, they use buses to block those vehicles from continuing on. And, finally, there’s the threat of the zombies coming down the highway behind the victims. This means they only have a short amount of time to accept the gang’s terms.

The second way the gang uses zombies is the more ingenious way. They put collars on the zombies and tie them to trucks filled with cargo. Then, a person walks in front of the zombies and leads them to where the cargo needs to go. They’ve become livestock.

Final Thoughts

What do you think of Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead Episode 6? What kind of RV would you have picked? How old do you think Shizuka is supposed to be? And, what other unique ways of using zombies can you think of? Let me know in the comments.

Personally, I would have picked an RV similar to the one the group ended up with. It’s not the one they wanted. But, it seems to be one of the more practical options. I’m also thinking Shizuka is 18 but hasn’t yet gotten her license. I don’t know how else zombies could be used, though.
