That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 Episode 53 Review

Meeting of Lubelius Knights

Okay, so I know I complained about the majority of the previous episode being a meeting. But, literally 99% of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 Episode 53 was a meeting. This season really is nothing more than a meeting simulator.

With that said, I actually didn’t find this episode to be as boring as the previous episodes. Though, I can’t say I knew what was going on the entire time. It looks like there’s a lot of stuff I’ve forgotten from the earlier seasons.

I mean, at least this meeting was about interesting stuff: The potential threat of Rimuru and Veldora. The meetings from the episodes before this one were all about mundane things like ensuring roads are safe. I don’t care about any of that small-scale stuff. I want to know more about the politics of this world on a macro-scale.

Now, this meeting of the Lubelius Knights didn’t go as I expected. They all agreed that Rimuru is very dangerous and that he’s an awakened Demon Lord. I thought there were more awakened Demon Lords. But, apparently, it’s only Rimuru, Guy, and Milim.

It could be that there are more who are awakened, but that their awakening isn’t common knowledge. Like, Carrion and Freya not being awakened is fine. But, are you telling me that Valentine isn’t awakened? That seems pretty unlikely. I’m sure someone will tell me if I’m wrong, though.

Anyway, at this meeting, they also all agree that Veldora is even more of a threat than Rimuru. And yet, the conclusion Hinata comes to is that Lubelius won’t act. She pretty much says that Rimuru and Veldora are too dangerous to fight, and so Lubelius won’t fight. That seemed pretty easy for Rimuru.

The Seven Luminaries’ Schemes

One of the things I forgot about that came up in this episode was the Seven Luminaries. That name sounds familiar, so I’m sure they were at least mentioned in a previous season. But, I have no recollection of Hinata defeating them and taking their abilities.

And, on a related note, I completely forgot that Hinata is an otherworlder unless this was brand-new information. I thought Shizu was an otherworlder who adopted Hinata in this world. I didn’t remember them both being otherworlders. Wasn’t there a whole plotline about Hinata not understanding how Rimuru and Shizu were from the same place?

I thought that was one of the major reasons why Hinata was Rimuru’s enemy. She thought Rimuru killed Hinata, yes. But also, she didn’t believe that Rimuru actually had something in common with Hinata. Well, I guess she believes him now, for some reason.

Okay, but, back to the Seven Luminaries. These old guys seem to be up to something. Reyhiem was supposed to have been converted to Tempest’s side. And yet, after the Seven Luminaries show up, he tells Hinata and the knights the truth. It wasn’t Veldora who destroyed Falmuth’s army, it was Rimuru.

That was odd. But then, the Seven Luminaries are also the ones who prompt Reyhiem to give Hinata the message from Rimuru. We don’t know what this message was supposed to say. However, my impression is that someone altered it. In it, Rimuru challenges Hinata to a duel. But, when we see Rimuru at the end of the episode, he seems surprised that she wants to fight.

Finally, Reyhiem suddenly dies at some point. So it seems pretty clear that the Seven Luminaries were using him to pit Hinata and Tempest against each other. Will it work?

The Dragon Buster

As part of their schemes, the Seven Luminaries give Hinata a special sword: The Dragon Buster. Considering they had just said that nothing could wound Veldora, I have to assume they meant nothing but this sword. So, it’s pretty obvious what they want Hinata to do.

They want her to die.

I mean, sure, they want her to slay Veldora, too. But, as Hinata points out, that’s likely only half of their plan. The best outcome for the Seven Luminaries would be for both Veldora and Hinata to kill each other.

So, what are the other outcomes, and how good are they for the Seven Luminaries? The next best outcome is probably for Hinata alone to die. She seems to be a problem for the Seven Luminaries. And, if she dies, it’s possible that they’ll get back the powers she took from them.

After that, there’s Hinata killing Veldora. Yes, Veldora is a huge threat to the world. But, is he a huge threat to the Seven Luminaries personally? I doubt it. They’re more concerned with Hinata. And, if Hinata slays Veldora and survives, that could actually be bad for them — it would make Hinata a true hero.

Then, there’s the possibility that things stay as they currently are. Both Veldora and Hinata would be alive, which is bad. But, at least they’re enemies — in theory. The status quo isn’t great, but it’s not the worst outcome.

Of course, the worst outcome would be for Hinata and Tempest to ally with each other. That’s the thing that the Seven Luminaries want to stop at all costs. This is also likely why they altered Rimuru’s message to her and gave her the Dragon Buster. They’re trying to antagonize both sides against each other.

Final Thoughts

What do you think of Tensura Season 3 Episode 53? Even though this episode was all one, long meeting, did you find it more interesting than the earlier episodes? How do you think the Seven Luminaries are going to interfere next? And, what do you expect to be the outcome of Rimuru and Hinata’s meeting?

  1. Yes, we knew that hinata was an otherworlder. Her informant had already said that rimuru might have shizu’s memories, which is why she didn’t believe him. The seven luminaries were introduced this season.

    1. If this was the introduction of the Seven Luminaries, that was a pretty terrible introduction.
