Counter Arrow & Stepped Leader

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 (Mushoku Tensei II: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu / 無職転生 II ~異世界行ったら本気だす~) is the third cour of the Mushoku Tensei series. This is a little confusing for some people. So, allow me to explain what that means.

First, there’s Mushoku Tensei, which is 11 episodes long. Second, there’s Mushoku Tensei Part 2, which is 12 episodes long. And third, there’s Mushoku Tensei Season 2, which is also 12 episodes long. Next year, there will also be a Mushoku Tensei Season 2 Part 2. So, we can all look forward to that.

But, you shouldn’t go right from Mushoku Tensei Part 2 to Season 2. There are two special episodes in between that you should watch. The first is “Eris the Goblin Slayer” and the second is “Guardian Fitz.” They both add context to the events of Season 2.

Suzanne and Rudeus from the anime series Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2
Suzanne and Rudeus

Now, Season 2 picks up after Eris abandoned Rudeus in the middle of the night. With both Ruijerd and Eris gone, Rudeus heads to the Northern Continent on his own in search of Zenith. And there, he temporarily joins two adventurer parties: Counter Arrow and Stepped Leader.

Counter Arrow is the first party Rudeus joins. And, after a near-death experience, he starts getting along well with his party members. But, that all comes crashing down when he attempts to start up a romance with fellow party member Sara. I’ll get to her more in a bit.

After leaving Counter Arrow, Rudeus joins Stepped Leader, which is a higher-ranked party. It’s with Stepped Leader that he earns the nickname “Quagmire,” which will follow him around. He got this name from one of his signature spells, which summons a bog that traps monsters.

This first part of the season may have been my favorite.

Rudeus’s Erectile Dysfunction Arc

If you haven’t seen Season 2 yet, the title of this section will probably be concerning. But, it’s an accurate description of a large portion of this season. And, it all starts with Sara, the member of Counter Arrow whom Rudeus attempted to romance.

After Rudeus saves Sara, she becomes clingy and stays by his side almost all the time. Rudeus, naturally, saw this as a sign that the two of them were getting closer. And, when Sara initiates sexual intimacy, Rudeys jumps right in. At least, he tries to.

There’s one small problem, he can’t get it up. This is a result of the psychological damage Rudeus took when Eris left after sleeping with him. And, Sara makes things even worse by insulting Rudeus and walking out on him, as well. Thus, the ED arc of the series begins.

Sara bundling up

You might be thinking, how could this possibly be an arc? Well, it both is and isn’t. The ED arc is more of an overarching arc throughout the season. It covers multiple, smaller arcs, including the Stepped Leader arc. Rudeus joins that party after its leader, Sol, tries to help him with his manhood problem.

After leaving Stepped Leader, Rudeus then makes his way to the Ranoa University of Magic. He goes there for a few reasons. First, he was invited on Roxy’s recommendation. Second, he may be able to learn more about the mass teleportation there. And, third and most important of all, he might find a cure for his ED.

This also isn’t me making a joke by saying finding a cure is the biggest reason why Rudeus enrolled. It’s actually the main reason. He wasn’t going to enroll until the Man-God told him that doing so would lead to him finding a cure.

Ranoa University of Magic

There’s definitely some good content during the University of Magic arc. But, overall, I didn’t enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the first part of the season. When I watch a fantasy series like this one, I watch it for the adventure.

What I don’t watch it for is a school setting in which characters learn magic. I’m not overly interested in the whole magic academy thing. And Mushoku Tensei isn’t the first series I’ve enjoyed that’s done this. The Ancient Magus’ Bride Season 2 did the same thing.

This half of the season was also the sillier half. There are no life-or-death situations while out on adventures. There’s not any real drama. Instead, it’s all about Rudeus going to school, making friends, and tormenting beastkin. The silliness doesn’t stop there, though. Everyone’s favorite prince, Zanoba, is back, too.

Sylphiette and Princess Ariel from the anime series Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2
Sylphiette and Princess Ariel

If you don’t remember Prince Zanoba, he’s the nerd who’s obsessed with Rudeus’s figure of Roxy. He also has super strength and no talent for crafting figures of his own. So, naturally, he and Rudy hit up the local slave market and bought themselves a child to make figures for them.

But, it’s not like this arc is all bad. We received quite a bit of lore, which I’m always a fan of. And, Demon King Badigadi appeared for the first time. Badigadi’s cool. Though, I have to admit that he adds to the aforementioned “silliness” of this part of the season.

And, of course, I can’t end this review without mentioning Sylphiette. Her reintroduction into the story is really the most important thing to come out of this arc. It looks like she’ll be traveling with Rudeus from now on. But, we’ll have to wait for Part 2 to see if that actually happens.

Final Thoughts

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 is an 8/10. Originally, I had this season rated at a 9. And, it definitely has some good parts. But, the more I thought about it, the more I realized I preferred what came before it. The whole magic academy thing just isn’t for me.

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 12 Review

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 12 Review

Sylphiette Found a Cure

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 12 is the last episode of the cour. It’s not the last episode of Season 2, though. Well, at least not technically. This is only the end of Season 2 Part 1. Season 2 Part 2 begins airing in the spring.

Anyway, onto what happened in Episode 12. Sylphiette managed to cure Rudeus’s erectile dysfunction. Princess Ariel and Luke helped, too. But, Sylphiette was the one who did the bulk of the work. But, how exactly did she cure Rudeus’s ED? It’s more involved than you might have thought.

The first step to curing Rudeus was Sylphiette being herself. The fact that Sylphiette is Sylphiette is important here. Remember, Rudeus didn’t feel anything when he groped Linia. But, touching Sylphiette’s waist when she fell on him was enough to arouse something in him.

Sylphiette lying on her back in a cave

Unfortunately, Sylphiette alone wasn’t enough to fix Rudeus. We saw that when they tried to do the deed in the cave. And, to be fair, the fact that Rudeus couldn’t keep it up at the time was probably for the best. Did Sylphiette really want her first time to be in a dark, damp, cold cave?

This is where the second step came in, though. Even though Rudeus couldn’t perform, Sylphiette didn’t reject him in the same way Sara did. And the third step came when Sylphiette used the aphrodisiac provided to her by Luke. That helped Rudeus get it up and keep it up.

Finally, there’s the fourth step, which is likely the most important of all. Sylphiette returned the morning after. When Rudeus woke up and Sylphiette wasn’t there, he started to panic. Was this going to be a repeat of the Eris situation? No, because Sylphiette didn’t abandon him.

Rudeus and the Asuran Nobles

Now that Rudeus’s ED is cured, I guess he doesn’t have too much reason to stay at the University of Magic. Sure, he still wants to learn more about the mass teleportation event. And he can do so by working with Nanahoshi.

But, the whole mass teleportation thing wasn’t the main reason he was there. That was secondary to him trying to cure himself. So, I’m interested to see if Rudeus leaves the university in Part 2. I’m guessing he will, but that it will be about halfway through the cour.

Anyway, when Rudeus eventually leaves, he’ll be working alongside Princess Ariel. He’s not going to be working for her. At least, not yet. But, she’s going to be using his name and the prestige that comes with it to achieve her goals. And he’s going to be doing the same with her name.

Rudeus formally introducing himself to Princess Ariel from the anime series Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 12
Rudeus formally introducing himself to Princess Ariel

Once Rudeus finishes reuniting his family, he’ll work with Princess Ariel directly. However, it’s unclear in what capacity this will be. I don’t see him becoming one of her knights, like Luke. Instead, it’s more likely that he’ll help her forge alliances while on his travels.

And, I get the feeling that it shouldn’t be too long before this happens. From what I remember, Zenith is the only family member still missing. And, her location is known. So, how long is it going to take to bring her back? It could happen by the end of an eventual Season 3.

What I’m more interested in, for now, is how Rudeus is going to use Princess Ariel’s name. What doors is name-dropping Princess Ariel going to open for him? I doubt many people care much about an exiled Asuran princess. I guess it’ll come in handy at some point, though.

Sylphiette Greyrat

I wasn’t expecting Rudeus to declare that he’s going to marry Sylphiette in this episode. And, considering Princess Ariel called Sylphiette “Sylphiette Greyrat,” I guess it’s official. Is there going to be a wedding? Or, are they married now that they said they are?

I don’t know. And I also don’t know what this means for the future of Rudeus’s relationships with the other girls. I predicted that the series would go down the harem route. There are plenty of other girls Rudeus has shown interest in besides Sylphiette.

There’s Eris, whom Rudeus has already slept with. There’s Roxy, who was Rudeus’s first crush and idol of his Roxism religion. And there’s Sara, whom Rudeus attempted to bed before his ED shut that down. I assumed Rudeus would eventually form a party with these girls as other members. And thus, his harem would be formed.

Sylphiette and Rudeus Greyrat from the anime series Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 12
Sylphiette and Rudeus Greyrat

Now that Rudeus is married (or plans to marry) Sylphiette, the harem route gets a bit more complicated. Though, it’s still not impossible. After all, Paul cheated on Zenith with Lilia and things turned out all right. Also, Sylphiette previously acknowledged the men of the Greyrat family’s love of women.

However, it might actually make the most sense for Rudeus to be in a monogamous relationship. Think about Rudeus’s current relationships with the other girls. Eris is Rudeus’s cousin. Even if marriage between cousins is fine in this world, if they have children, that could be a bit “sus.”

Roxy is also far older than Rudeus and is his mentor. She’s around Paul and Zenith’s age in terms of years. She’ll also continue living long after Rudeus dies. Though, Sylphiette may, as well. And Sara doesn’t have a strong connection to Rudeus, so she’d be better as a normal party member.

Final Thoughts

What do you think of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 12? Did you think Sylphie’s first time was going to be on a cold cave floor? How do you think Rudy’s going to use Princess Ariel’s name in the future? And, do you think the series is going to go down the harem route?

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 11 Review

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 11 Review

Time to Bring Rudeus Into the Fold

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 11 wasn’t too exciting. There was obviously a big moment at the end of the episode. But, I would have liked it if more happened leading up to that. Fitz being Sylphiette wasn’t new information for us.

I’m not sure if this is new information. But, Princess Ariel mentions that she wants to make Rudeus one of her allies. I don’t know if she said that earlier in this season. However, I feel like she mentioned it at the end of Season 1.

Back then, we got a short scene showing Sylphiette with Ariel at the University of Magic. From what I remember, this scene is when Sylphiette learns that Rudeus is attending, too. And, Ariel asks if he would be a good ally for them to have, to which Sylphiette responds that he would.

Ariel reassuring Sylphiette

Maybe I made that entire scene up and it didn’t actually happen. I’m not going to go back and check. But, either way, in this episode, Ariel makes her intentions clear. She wants Sylphiette to reveal her identity to Rudeus and then bring him into their group.

Of course, as Ariel says, this is also for Sylphiette’s sake. Sylphiette is in love with Rudeus and if she wants a shot at being with him, she needs to be bold. But, we also know that Ariel has some lofty ambitions. She wants to become the ruler of the Asura Kingdom someday.

Having someone like Rudeus in her corner will help make her dream a reality. After all, there aren’t too many people as strong as Rudeus around. There are people like Orsted and likely even Badigadi who can kill Rudeus. But, the majority of people don’t stand a chance. Also, he’s known and respected.

A Quest to Find a Flower

To help Sylphiette reveal her identity to Rudeus, Ariel comes up with an elaborate plan. But, why was this necessary? Sylphiette is worried that even if she reveals her identity, Rudeus won’t remember her. I’m not sure why she thinks that, but she does.

I guess Rudeus never mentioned Sylphiette to her, specifically. I know he said that he was searching for the members of his family who are still lost. And I thought he mentioned searching for a friend. But, maybe he didn’t. Or, Sylphiette didn’t realize he was talking about her.

Anyway, one of the defining memories Sylphiette has about Rudeus is when he first learned she was a girl. They got rained on and then went to take a bath to warm up. Rudeus forced her to get undressed, and that’s when he realized his mistake.

Rudeus and Sylphiette going on a quest together from the anime series Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 11
Rudeus and Sylphiette going on a quest together

In a lot of ways, Sylphiette’s current situation is similar to that situation from her past. So, Ariel bases her plan on that core memory, hoping it will cause Rudeus to remember Sylphiette. The plan goes as follows.

First, Sylphiette convinces Rudeus to go on a trip up into the mountains with her alone. She says she needs to find a certain flower, the Freeze Fringe, with only Rudeus to protect Ariel’s honor. After they set out on their quest, she begins setting up the conditions for phase 2 of the plan.

To reduce Rudeus’s magic output, she asks if she can hold his staff. Then, the uses a spell ring to summon rain clouds. And, when Rudeus attempts to dispel them, she uses magic of her own to keep them in place. And, once it begins raining, the stage is set for the final phase of the plan.

Rudeus & Sylphiette, Together Forever

We’ve known that Sylphiette has a crush on Rudeus. It’s been pretty obvious for a while. But, I didn’t realize the extent of her feelings for him until Episode 11. She’s down so bad that she admitted to her fantasy of having a bunch of children with him.

Anyway, how much of Ariel’s plan do you think was actually necessary? We know that Rudeus never forgot Sylphiette. So, what’s the bare minimum that could have happened for him to recognize her? Did he actually need to strip her? Or, would taking off her sunglasses have been enough?

Personally, I’m pretty sure Rudeus would have recognized her based on her eyes alone. But, I like that we got to see the entire plan play out. It’s pretty impressive how Ariel crafted a flashback specifically for Rudeus. That’s some next-level stuff.

Sylphiette revealing her identity to Rudeus from the anime series Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 11
Sylphiette revealing her identity to Rudeus

Now, something we didn’t get to find out in Episode 11 is the significance of the necklace Rudeus wears. I’m expecting this to come up in the final episode of this half of the season. And, it’s something I already theorized about in my review of Episode 4.

When Elinalise sees Rudeus’s necklace, she loses interest in him as a sexual partner and backs off. We also see her holding a similar necklace in the OP. And, we know that Sylphiette was the one who gave Rudeus the necklace. So, my theory is that his having this necklace means he “belongs to” Sylphiette.

You can think of the necklace as kind of like a wedding ring. If you see someone wearing a wedding ring, it’s typically a sign that they’re married. This necklace could be the same thing for Elves. Since Sylphiette gave hers to Rudeus, other Elves recognize that he’s already taken.

Final Thoughts

What do you think of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 11? Do you expect Rudeus to ally himself with Princess Ariel? What do you think about Ariel’s convoluted plan to get Rudeus to recognize Sylphiette? And, do you think Rudeus is going to have a monogamous relationship with Sylphiette?

To me, it makes some sense for Rudeus to ally himself with Ariel. Sylphie is a close friend of Ariel and Ariel’s main bodyguard is a Greyrat, as well. As for his relationship with Sylphie, I’m still betting on the series going down the harem route. Eris, Roxy, and Sara need to join the family.

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 10 Review

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 10 Review

Daily Life at Ranoa University of Magic

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 10 wasn’t a great episode. Not too much actually happened in it. But, we did get some new information by following Rudeus’s daily life at the university.

Let’s start with something that might not be that new: Moving curses into objects. I’m pretty sure we already knew about this being what caused the Superds to go berserk. Laplace (a former Demon King, I think), moved curses from his own body into spears. The Superd then wielded those spears in battle and the curses affected them.

What’s important here, though, is how it relates to Elinalise’s current condition. At this point, I guess we’re supposed to believe that she really does have a curse. And if that’s the case, then there should be a way to move that curse into an object.

Julie drinking Badigadi's booze from the anime series Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 10
Julie drinking Badigadi’s booze

From the story about the Superds, we also know that curses within objects can transfer to people. So, here’s my theory. Cliff finds a way to transfer Elinalise’s curse into an object. Then, Rudeus somehow comes in contact with that object and contracts the curse. After that, Rudeus’s harem life begins with his various love interests.

Something we didn’t learn in this episode is exactly what role Badigadi has at the university. He wears a uniform like the other students, so that would imply he’s a student. But, even from his introduction, I didn’t feel like he was one. It makes more sense for him to be a teacher.

And, in this episode, he comments on how hard it must be to be a student if they can’t drink during the day. So, that seems to imply that he’s not a student. What is he, then? At this point, I think he’s just hanging out there.

Nanahoshi’s Summoning Circles

One of the other things we learned is how Shizuka Nanahoshi plans to return to her old world. It’s not exactly as simple as using some sort of reverse summoning spell. As far as we know, summoning spells require the use of summoning circles.

The problem with summoning circles is that the technology has been lost. Shizuka can’t just look up the kind of summoning circle she needs. So, she’s had to create her own summoning circles based on her research. And so far, they haven’t produced much in terms of results.

But, it’s not as if Shizuka isn’t getting anywhere. She doesn’t have mana. And that leads me to assume she couldn’t test her summoning circles until Rudeus arrived. So, now that she has Rudeus, she can get some real-world data to back up the research she’s been doing.

One of Shizuka Nanahoshi's summoning circles from the anime series Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 10
One of Shizuka Nanahoshi’s summoning circles

The summoning circle pictured above managed to summon a bird’s feather. That seems like a success, to me. But, Shizuka calls it a failure as it was meant to summon someone from her old world. Still, we don’t know where that feather came from. It’s possible it came from her old world, which would be a huge step forward.

However, Rudeus points out a potential issue with Shizuka’s plan. The first thing she wants to do is summon a person from her old world. What will happen if she succeeds? Rudeus rightly says that it could lead to another mass teleportation event.

Shouldn’t Shizuka start off by summoning a known object from her current world? Then, she could move on to an object from her old world before making the jump to humans. And, what everyone seems to ignore is, what happens to that human? Now they’re stuck there, too.

Fitz-senpai Is a Woman

In Episode 10, Rudeus finally finds out something that we’ve known from the very start of the season: Fitz is a woman. However, he still hasn’t figured out that Fitz is none other than his childhood friend Sylphie. I wonder when he’ll find that out, too.

My prediction is that Rudeus is going to uncover Fitz’s true identity in Episode 12. That would be a pretty good cliffhanger to end on. And, it wouldn’t be as if we’d have to wait until Season 3 to learn what that means for him. Season 2 Part 2 is coming in the spring.

Anyway, finding out that Fitz is a woman seems to have fixed Rudeus’s ED. He’s not entirely better yet. But, continued exposure to Fitz should do the trick. Though, I’m not exactly sure how physical contact with Fitz was able to fix Rudeus.

Fitz falling on Rudeus from the anime series Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 10
Fitz falling on Rudeus

Rudeus doesn’t yet know that Fitz is Sylphie. As far as he’s concerned, all that happened was that he touched a girl. And that’s something he’s done multiple times since his ED showed up. So, I’m going to assume that it being Sylphie specifically isn’t what made the difference here.

From my understanding, the difference is that Rudeus actually likes Fitz/Sylphie. He doesn’t care about Linia, Elise, or even Sara, it would seem. But, Sylphie is someone he does care about. And, even though he doesn’t know that Fitz is Sylphie, it’s natural that he would feel the same way about Fitz.

As Fitz, Sylphie still acts like herself around Rudeus. So, whatever attracted Rudeus to Sylphie would likewise attract him to Fitz. If Eris was in disguise and met Rudeus, he’d be attracted to her, too. Or, would he? Sara was very similar to Eris, and yet Rudeus couldn’t get it up.

Final Thoughts

What do you think of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 10? Were you surprised when nobody objected to Julie drinking alcohol? Do you expect Shizuka to successfully summon another person from her old world? And do you think Elinalise’s curse will be transferred to Rudeus? Let me know in the comments.

I was sure Rudeus was going to speak up when Julie wanted to drink. But, I guess he doesn’t see that as a problem since she’s a dwarf. Also, I kind of hope Shizuka doesn’t succeed in summoning someone else. I’d prefer if this series didn’t go down the “connected worlds” route.

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 9 Review

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 9 Review

The White Mask

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 9 was a giant lore dump. And I don’t mean that in a bad way. One of my favorite things about this series is the lore. So, any time we get a bunch of lore, I’m happy.

One of the first things we learn is who the final special student at Ranoa University of Magic is. Previously, Zanoba referred to her as “Miss Silent.” And, when he did so, I assumed that wasn’t actually her name. But, it turns out that it is. Her name is Silent Sevenstar.

Rudeus visits her in her laboratory because she’s an expert in teleportation magic. But, that little piece of information doesn’t really make sense. As we learned earlier in the season, teleportation magic is forbidden. And, why was the existence of a teleportation expert not mentioned until now? Isn’t that important?

Silent Sevenstar from the anime series Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 9
Silent Sevenstar

Both Rudeus and Fitz have been trying to uncover the mystery of the mass teleportation. And while Rudeus didn’t know that’s what Silent specialized in, Fitz did. So, why didn’t Fitz ever visit Silent before? Why didn’t Fitz ever mention Silent’s area of research to Rudeus before? It doesn’t make sense.

Anyway, when Rudeus comes face-to-mask with Silent, he realizes that he’s met her before. She was accompanying Orsted back when he killed Rudeus. Naturally, seeing Silent again causes Rudeus to have a panic attack. But, according to Silent, the reason Rudeus is alive today is because she asked Orsted to revive him.

Silent may have been traveling with Orsted, but that doesn’t make Rudeus her enemy. Whatever beef Orsted has with the Man-God doesn’t matter to her. Orsted may decide to kill Rudeus again in the future. But, if he does, it won’t be because of Silent. She doesn’t work for him.

Silent Sevenstar / Shizuka Nanahoshi

As it turns out, Silent Sevenstar isn’t her real name. And, this isn’t actually the second time Rudeus has run into her — it’s the third. The first time he saw her was before he was reincarnated, back in his old world. She was there when he died.

So, who is Silent Sevenstar actually? Her real name is Shizuka Nanahoshi, which is just Silent Sevenstar in Japanese. It’s a bit unclear why she chose to use her name translated into English as her alias in this world, but whatever. The point is, she’s Japanese, just like Rudeus.

However, there are some key differences between Shizuka and Rudeus. For starters, Shizuka wasn’t reincarnated into this world; she was teleported. That’s significant because it means that, unlike Rudeus, she didn’t grow up in this world. She appeared in it exactly as she was in their old world.

Shizuka Nanahoshi from the anime series Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 9
Shizuka Nanahoshi

Now, if Shizuka wasn’t reborn in this world, why doesn’t she appear older? She should be in her 30s by now. Well, as she explains, she doesn’t seem to age in this world. She looks the same as she did the day she arrived there. Though, she doesn’t believe this means she’s immortal.

On top of that, Shizuka says that she only appeared in this world 5 years ago. Meanwhile, Rudeus has been living in this world for something like 16 or 17 years by now. So, what’s the deal with that?

My assumption was that Shizuka was caught up in Rudeus’s reincarnation. But if that’s the case, why did Shizuka appear in the world 12 years after Rudeus did? Surely, there’s a reason for this delay and it wasn’t random. But, what could that reason be?

Oh, and since Shizuka wasn’t reincarnated, she also has no mana. She’s a normal human.

The One Who Caused the Mass Teleportation

Despite all the information we got from Episode 9, we still don’t know the cause of the mass teleportation. Though, we do have a few more clues thanks to what we learned from Shizuka. She seems to believe she’s the cause.

Now, if Shizuka believes she’s the cause, doesn’t that mean we know the cause? After all, she appeared in Asura shortly before the mass teleportation event happened. So, it makes sense to assume that her appearance is what caused it. And, I don’t doubt that’s true.

But, saying that Shizuka was the cause doesn’t really answer the question. All this would mean is that the mass teleportation was a side effect of Shizuka’s summoning. So, who summoned Shizuka and why? The best answer we have for who is Orsted. But, we don’t have any information about the why.

Silent creating a magic force field from the anime series Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 9
Silent creating a magic force field

Are we supposed to believe that Orsted just happened to be nearby when Shizuka appeared in Asura? And that he decided to take in a girl with no mana and travel the world with her? It seems more likely that he’s the one who summoned her, doesn’t it?

Well, I’m not so sure about that. There’s someone else we know of who was in Asura at the time who could have summoned Shizuka: Rudeus. We know Rudeus has far more mana than most people. So, even if he didn’t intend to summon Shizuka, he still may have been the one to do it.

Of course, there’s also something the Man-God said that we need to keep in mind. He told Rudeus that Orsted was connected to the mass teleportation somehow. But, since we know Orsted and the Man-God are enemies, I’m not sure how much we can trust that information.

Final Thoughts

What do you think of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 9? Did you remember that we met Shizuka back in Season 1 before she mentioned it? Why do you think there was a delay in her summoning? And, who do you think is responsible for summoning Shizuka?

I’ll admit that I completely forgot we had met Shizuka before. And, as for why there was a delay in her summoning, I’m not entirely sure. Was she lost in the void between worlds for 12 years? Or, did she cross both space and time to arrive in the same world as Rudeus 12 years later?

Also, I’m going to make the prediction that neither Rudeus nor Orsted summoned Shizuka. Orsted seemed to be trying to return her to her old world. But, his involvement could be that he interrupted someone else performing a summoning. And, as a result, Shizuka appeared instead of the intended summoning target.
